MMA News and Notes
Alex Peredo - Wednesday, November 4 2009 - 12:16 AM

~ UFC veteran and one-time Palace Fighting Championship lightweight titleholder Diego Saraiva edged Jonathan Mix by split decision in the marquee matchup at Wild Bill’s Fight Night 23 on Friday at Wild Bill’s Atlanta in Duluth, Ga. The Atlanta-based 27-year-old has delivered 11 of his 14 career wins by submission and has yet to be finished as a professional.

~ A welterweight battle between Paulo Thiago (11-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and newcomer Jacob Volkmann (10-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has also been added to the UFC 106: Ortiz vs Griffin 2 card. Volkmann, is the latest UFC signing from the Minnesota Martial Arts Academy. Volkmann turned pro just two years ago and has kept a steady fight schedule with seven first-round submission victories.

~ World Extreme Cagefighting recently announced its first event of 2010, and tickets for the Jan. 10 card go on sale later this week. Featuring a lightweight title unification bout between current champ Jamie Varner and interim champ Benson Henderson, "WEC 46: Varner vs. Henderson" takes place at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif. Pre-sale tickets go on sale Thursday. Tickets go on sale to WEC.tv newsletter subscribers on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m PT). Subscribers are given a pre-sale password to make a purchase before tickets go on sale to the general public. Tickets are then available to all buyers on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m PT). Tickets for the 17,000-seat venue are priced at $200, $135, $75, and $40.

~ A recently rumored lightweight contest between Frankie Edgar (10-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) and Matt Veach (11-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is now official. The pair will meet in the co-feature of The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale on Dec. 5 at The Pearl at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. Edgar and Veach had both been expected to face different opponents, but an injury to Kurt Pellegrino (14-4 MMA, 6-3 UFC) set off a chain reaction of events that led to the new matchup.

~ WEC newcomer Brad Pickett (17-4 MMA, 0-0 WEC), a longtime fighter on the British fight scene, has signed with the WEC and will make his promotional debut against Kyle Dietz (5-1 MMA, 0-1 WEC) next month at WEC 45: Cerrone vs. Ratcliff. The Pickett vs. Dietz bantamweight bout is slotted for the night's preliminary card.

--- Any one interested in general admission MMA tickets for the Palace of Auburn Hills, MI on 11/14?
