2/6/18 WWE 205 Live Recap: Kalisto vs. Dorado; Strong vs. Itami

205 Live opens with a recap of last weeks show, which saw the appointment of Drake Maverick as the General Manager of the show and also the first two First Round matches in the tournament for the vacant WWE Cruiserweight Championship. In those two matches, Cedric Alexander defeated Gran Metalik and TJP defeated Tyler Bate. We then go into the arena where Nigel McGuinness and Vic Joseph welcome us to the show. We see that the two First Round matches tonight will be Kalisto vs. Lince Dorado and Hideo Itami vs. Roderick Strong.

Match #1 – Tournament First Round Match for the vacant WWE Cruiserweight Championship: Kalisto vs. Lince Dorado
Kalisto and Dorado shake hands before the match and then they lock up. Dorado drops Kalisto to the mat, but Kalisto gets back to his feet quickly. They both try some offense, but stand at a stalemate. Kalisto applies a headlock, but Dorado sends him off the ropes and connects with a dropkick. Dorado charges, but Kalisto meets him with an elbow shot. Kalisto drops Dorado with a dropkick and then drops him again with a hurricanrana. Kalisto delivers a suicide dive to the outside that sends Dorado into the announce table. Kalisto tosses Dorado back into the ring and goes for a sunset flip, but Dorado sits down and gets a two count. Dorado tosses Kalisto to the outside and connects with a cannonball senton that takes Kalisto down.
Dorado delivers a slap and then tosses Kalisto back into the ring. Dorado goes for the cover, but Kalisto kicks out at one. Dorado applies a rear-chin lock down on the mat and then tosses him back out to the floor. Dorado tosses Kalisto back into the ring and goes for the cover, but Kalisto kicks out at two. Kalisto applies a sleeper hold down on the mat, but Kalisto fights back to his feet with right hands. Kalisto comes off the ropes, but Dorado catches him and slams him down to the mat. Kalisto goes up top for the Shooting Star Press, but Kalisto moves and Dorado lands on his feet. Kalisto kicks Dorado in the face and goes up top. Dorado cuts him off and drops him with a super hurricanrana and both men are down.
Both men fight to their feet and Dorado delivers slaps across Kalisto’s chest. Kalisto comes back with stiff kicks and connects with a flying clothesline. Kalisto delivers a hurricanrana, but Dorado rolls through and gets a two count. Dorado goes up top, but Kalisto cuts him off with a kick to the chest. Dorado delivers a headbutt, but Kalisto delivers a senton power bomb and gets a two count. Kalisto goes for Solida Del Sol, but Dorado rolls through and takes Kalisto down to the mat. Dorado connects with the Golden Rewind and then goes up top. Dorado connects with the Shooting Star Press, but Kalisto rolls to the floor. Dorado tosses Kalisto back into the ring, but Kalisto comes back with Solida Del Sol. The referee’s hand hits three as Dorado grabs the ropes and the match continues.
Dorado kicks Kalisto away, but Kalisto goes for Solida Del Sol, but Dorado kicks him away a third time. Kalisto comes off the ropes again and finally connects with Solida Del Sol again and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Kalisto.

We see an introductory video for Roderick Strong before we head to a break.

Back from the break, we see a selfie promo with Cedric Alexander. Alexander hypes up the tournament and says no one will stand in his way. Ali sneaks up on him and jokes around and Alexander said sneaks ups might mean a lumbar gets checked.

We see a promo with TJP. He says it sucks getting ridiculed for something that he has worked hard at for twenty years. He says this time is different because he isn’t doing it for himself.

We see that Akira Tozawa and Mark Andrews will meet in a First Round match on next week’s show, and then see an introductory video for Andrews. We then see a promo with Tozawa. Tozawa says Andrews can’t beat him and then tells some guy backstage he is fired because he picked Andrews to win.

We see Hideo Itami warming up for his match backstage, and then see Roderick Strong doing the same.

Back from the break, we see Drake Maverick in his office. Drew Gulak and Tony Nese walk in. Maverick asks Gulak what happened to him. Maverick says he used to be the most rugged grappler on all of 205 Live, but now he is a goof. Maverick says Nese is the most gifted athlete, but he is wasting his potential. Maverick says this is a different 205 Live now and they will meet in a First Round match on next week’s show because he wants to know which one of them will finally step up to the plate.

Match #2 – Tournament First Round Match for the vacant WWE Cruiserweight Championship: Hideo Itami vs. Roderick Strong
Itami applies a waist-lock and then a head scissors down on the mat. Strong gets free and applies a modified surfboard submission. Itami flips over into a cover, but Strong kicks out at one. They tie up again and exchange wrist-locks. Strong gets the advantage, but Itami gets free and they are at a stalemate. Strong applies another wrist-lock and takes Itami down to the mat, but Itami gets free again. Strong shoves Itami away and goes for a back-breaker, but Itami counters and applies a side headlock. Strong fights back, but Itami drops him with a shoulder block. Strong runs the ropes and kicks Itami in the face. Strong goes for the cover, but Itami kicks out at two.
Strong kicks Itami into the corner and delivers a chop. Itami lifts Strong to the apron, but Strong comes back with a right hand. Itami comes right back with kicks to Strong and then drops a knee across Strong’s neck. Itami goes for the cover, but Strong kicks out at two. Itami kicks Strong in the back and then drops a knee across his face. Itami kicks Strong in the side of the head and then kicks him into the corner. Itami kicks Strong in the face and goes for a tornado DDT, but Strong counters and delivers a gut-buster. Strong goes for the cover, but Itami kicks out at two. Strong stomps away on Itami and slams him into the corner. Strong delivers a chop and then slams Itami to the mat. Strong goes for the cover, but Itami kicks out at two.
Strong applies a modified abdominal stretch down on the mat, but Itami gets free. Strong quickly grabs him and delivers a back-breaker. Strong goes for the cover, but Itami kicks out at two. Strong and Itami exchange forearm shots and then Strong drops him with a dropkick. Strong goes for the cover, but Itami kicks out at two again and Strong goes back to the neck-wrench submission down on the mat. Itami fights to his feet and delivers a jaw-breaker. Itami delivers a DDT and both men are down. Itami comes back with a knee strike that sends Strong to the mat and goes for the cover, but Strong kicks out at two. Itami runs the ropes, but Strong comes back with a few kicks. Strong delivers an Olympic Slam and goes for the cover, but Itami kicks out at two.
Itami rolls to the apron, but Strong follows him out. Strong goes or a suplex, but Itami fights free and they exchange forearm shots on the apron. Itami sends Strong down to the floor, but Strong pulls him down as well. They exchange chops and kicks on the floor and then Strong slams Itami back-first into the ring apron. Strong tosses Itami back into the ring and goes for the cover, but Itami kicks out at two. Strong goes for another back-breaker, but Itami blocks. Strong delivers chops and goes for a back-breaker, but Itami counters with a inverted power bomb and gets a two count. Itami runs the ropes and goes for the jumping knee strike, but Strong catches him. Strong goes for the Strong Hold, but Itami kicks his way free.
Itami connects with an elbow and then applies a modified Rings of Saturn submission, but Strong gets to the ropes. Itami kicks Strong in the chest and then connects with the jumping knee strike. Itami goes for the cover, but Strong kicks out at two. Itami goes to run the ropes again, but Strong counters with a gut-buster. Strong delivers Cloud Nine and goes for the cover, but Itami kicks out at two. Strong puts Itami on the top rope, but Itami delivers a few elbows. Itami goes for a super-plex, but Strong holds on. Itami finally connects with a super Falcon Arrow and goes for the cover, but Strong kicks out again.
Itami delivers a jumping knee and a backfist followed by the hesitation dropkick. Strong comes back with a knee strike of his own and hits the End of Heartache and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Roderick Strong.
