WWE Mae Young Classic Tournament Coverage – Episode 7

Episode 7 opens with a recap of the first two rounds and then highlights the Elite 8: Abbey Laith, Mercedes Martinez, Candice LeRae, Shayna Baszler, Toni Storm, Piper Niven, Dakota Kai, and Kairi Sane. We see the opening video for the tournament and then go into the arena where Jim Ross and Lita welcome us to the show and run down the matches for the show.

Match #1: Tournament Quarterfinal Match – Abbey Laith vs. Mercedes Martinez
They lock up and Martinez takes Laith down with a heel trip. Laith fights back, but Martinez kicks her away. Laith comes back with a waist-lock take down, but Martinez turns it into a front face lock. Laith turns it into an arm-bar, but Martinez rolls her up for a two count. Martinez delivers an uppercut an applies a side headlock. Laith fights into a wrist-lock and then takes Martinez down and applies a head scissors. Martinez comes back with a palm strike to the face and then delivers a knife edge chop. Martinez beats Laith into the corner and then takes Laith down with a snapmare. Martinez kicks Laith a few times, but Laith counters with a roll-up for a two count. Laith takes Martinez down with a few arm-drag take downs and then a spinning heel kick and gets a two count.
Laith backs Martinez against the ropes and delivers a few forearm shots. Laith delivers a chop and takes Martinez down, but Martinez counters with a kick to the face. Martinez goes for the cover, but Laith kicks out at two. Martinez takes Laith to the corner and delivers right hands and then a big chop. Martinez chops Laith a few more times, but Laith comes back with chops of her own. Laith drops Martinez with a kick to the face and goes for the cover, but Martinez kicks out at two. Laith slams Martinez into the corner and delivers a clothesline and then a series of kick. Laith goes or a monkey flip, but Martinez counters and slams her down to the mat. Martinez stomps on Laith’s chest and then delivers a forearm shot and a kick to the face.
Martinez takes Laith down in the corner and delivers another kick to the face. They go to the apron and Martinez goes for a suplex, but Laith holds onto the ropes. Laith kicks Martinez in the face and Martinez falls to the floor. Laith goes up top and takes Martinez down with a cross-body. Laith rolls Martinez back into the ring and goes for the cover, but Martinez kicks out at two. Martinez comes back and tosses Laith to the floor and then goes for a suplex back into the ring. Laith counters into her own German suplex and goes for the cover, but Martinez kicks out at two. Martinez comes back and hits the fisherman’s buster and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Mercedes Martinez.

Match #2: Tournament Quarterfinal Match – Candice LeRae vs. Shayna Baszler
Baszler connects with a running knee right off the bat and then delivers a few kicks to LeRae. Baszler goes for another knee strike, but LeRae moves and Baszler gets caught in the ropes. LeRae comes off the ropes and drops Baszler with a spinning DDT on the floor. LeRae tosses Baszler back into the ring and goes for the cover, but Baszler kicks out at two. LeRae applies the octopus submission and then takes her down with a face-buster and locks in the cross-face submission. Baszler gets free and drops LeRae with a side slam. LeRae stomps down on Baszler and then goes up top. Baszler cuts her off and delivers a few shots to her back. Baszler goes for a gut-wrench suplex from the top, but LeRae fights free. LeRae goes for Miss LeRae’s Wild Ride, but Baszler counters in mid air and locks in the rear naked choke and LeRae taps out.
Winner: Shayna Baszler.

Match #3: Tournament Quarterfinal Match – Piper Niven vs. Toni Storm
They lock up and Storm backs Niven into the ropes. They set up for a test of strength and Niven takes Storm down to the mat. Niven gets a couple quick pin fall attempts and then holds Niven up in a bridge. Both women’s shoulders are down and they double bridge and then they shake hands while in the bridge. Storm applies a wrist-lock now and takes Niven down to the mat, but Niven counters with a heel trip and then splashes down onto Storm. Niven goes for the cover, but Storm kicks out at two. Niven splashes Storm in the corner and then delivers a cross-body. Niven flips Storm down to the mat and delivers the cross-body splash and goes for the cover, but Storm kicks out at two. Niven delivers a senton now and goes for another cover, but Storm kicks out again.
Niven goes for another senton, but Storm rolls out of the way. Storm goes for the hip attack, but Niven moves out of the way. Niven goes for a splash in the corner, but Storm moves and then connects with the hip attack. Storm grabs Niven and goes for a suplex, but Niven elbows her way out. Niven delivers the Michinoku Driver and goes for the cover, but Storm kicks out at two. Niven tosses Storm into the corner and connects with a cannonball. Niven goes to the ropes and sets up for the splash, but Storm grabs her and delivers a suplex from the middle rope. Storm goes up top and connects with a leg drop and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Toni Storm.

We see an interview with Ronda Rousey, Marina Shafir, and Jessamyn Duke and they are hyping up Shayna Baszler. Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Bayley interrupt them and the six women stare each other down.

Match #4: Tournament Quarterfinal Match – Kairi Sane vs. Dakota Kai
They lock up and Sane applies a wrist-lock. Kai turns it into one of her own, but Sane turns it right back. Sane turns it into a side headlock take down, but Kai counters into a head scissors. Sane gets free and the women are at a stalemate. Kai goes for a few quick kicks, but Sane ducks under each one. Kai kicks Sane in the midsection and comes off the ropes, but Sane counters with a clubbing shot across the chest and then takes Kai down with a Blockbuster. Kai comes back and sends Sane to the corner and delivers a few quick chops. Sane turns it around and delivers some chops of her own. Sane goes up top, but Kai counter with a knee strike to the head. Kai pulls Sane down to the mat and goes for the cover, but Sane kicks out at two.
Kai places Sane in the corner and drives her boot across Sane’s face a few times. Kai delivers a running knee strike and goes for the cover, but Sane kicks out at two. Sane tries to fight back, but Kai catches her with a knee strike to the side of the head. Kai goes for the cover, but Sane kicks out at two again. Kai kicks Sane in the back, but Sane runs the ropes and takes her down with a spear. Sane delivers a few clubbing shots across the chest and then drops Kai with a low dropkick. Sane stomps down onto Kai’s back and goes for the cover, but Kai kicks out at two. Sane backs away and charges, but Kai counters with a drop toe hold into the corner. Kai kicks Sane in the face in the corner and goes for the cover, but Sane kicks out at two.
Kai goes for a kick, but Sane counters and delivers a back fist. Sane sends Kai to the corner and charges, but Kai moves and catches Sane with a right hand. Sane blocks another attempt and connects with a few right hands of her own. Sane puts Kai on the top rope and goes for a suplex, but Kai fights her off. Kai goes for the double stomp, but Sane dodges it and connects with a forearm shot from the top rope. Sane goes for the cover, but Kai kicks out at two. Sane connects with another forearm shot and goes for another cover, but Kai kicks out again. Sane picks Kai up, but Kai counters with a roll-up and then kicks Sane in the face. Kai grabs Sane and takes her to the corner. Kai goes for the running kick, but Sane dodges and connects with an Alabama Slam. Sane goes up top and connects with the elbow drop and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Kairi Sane.
