WWE Mae Young Classic Tournament Recap – Episode 1

The Mae Young Classic Tournament opens with a video montage of the pioneers of women’s wrestling. We then go into the arena at Full Sail University where WWE Hall of Famers Jim Ross and Lita welcome us to the show.

We take a look at the first two competitors, Princesa Sugehit and Kay Lee Ray.

Match #1: Tournament First Round Match – Kay Lee Ray vs. Princesa Sugehit
They get face to face and Ray slaps Sugehit across the face. Sugehit comes back with kicks and eventually kicks Ray down to the mat. Sugehit goes for the cover, but Ray kicks out at two. Sugehit runs the ropes, but Ray takes her down with a drop toe hold. Sugehit comes back and grounds Ray, but Ray gets away and the woman are at a stalemate. Sugehit takes control and rolls Ray up, but Ray kicks out at two. Ray comes back and gets Sugehit in a standing surfboard submission, but Sugehit counters and slams Ray down to the mat again. Sugehit goes for the cover, but Ray kicks out at two. Sugehit connects with a few elbow drops and goes for another cover, but Ray kicks out again.
Sugehit goes for the apron and comes into the ring, but Ray moves and then catches Sugehit with a knee. Ray goes for the cover, but Sugehit kicks out at two. Ray slams Sugehit into the corner and delivers a chop. Ray slams Sugehit into the other corner and delivers another chop. Ray goes for it a third time, but Sueghit counters and kicks and punches Ray in the corner. Ray shoves her away and then drops her with a face-buster DDT. Ray goes for the cover, but Sugehit kicks out at two. Ray grabs Sugehit and applies a submission, but Sugehit counters into a pin attempt and Ray kicks out at two. Sugehit slaps and kicks Ray a few times and takes her down with a hurricanrana. Sugehit drops Ray to the mat and rolls her around the ring. Sugehit goes for the cover, but Ray kicks out at two.
Sugehit kicks Ray in the face and then in the side of the head. Sugehit goes for the cover, but Ray kicks out at two again. Sugehit kicks Ray in the back of the leg, but Ray comes back with a kick of her own to the face. Ray grabs Sugehit’s leg and then slams her down to the mat with a face-buster. Ray goes for the cover, but Sugehit kicks out at two. Ray goes up top and goes for a senton, but Sugehit moves and then locks in an arm bar submission down on the mat and Ray taps out.
Winner: Princesa Sugehit.

We take a look at the next two competitors, Vanessa Borne and Serena Deeb.

Match #2: Tournament First Round Match – Serena Deeb vs. Vanessa Borne
They lock up and take each other down to the mat. Borne drops Deeb with an arm drag, but Deeb gets back to her feet as Borne taunts her. Deeb goes behind and takes Borne down to the mat. Borne fights to her feet, but Deeb takes her down with a couple of arm drags. Deeb applies an arm lock submission and then sends Borne to the corner. Deeb charges, but Borne lifts her to the apron and then delivers a headbutt. Borne drags Deeb back into the ring and stomps away on her. Borne slams Deeb into the corner and stomps her down again. Borne connects with forearm shots in the corner and then takes her down and delivers another headbutt. Borne goes for the cover, but Deeb kicks out at two.
Borne applies a headlock down on the mat, but Deeb fights back and suplexes Borne down to the mat. Deeb delivers some left hands and then drops Borne with a big right. Deeb delivers a scoop slam and then a kick to the midsection. Deeb drops Borne with a neck-breaker and goes for the cover, but Borne gets her shoulder up at the one count. Deeb picks Borne up and delivers a gut-buster and charges at Borne, but Borne moves and Deeb goes shoulder-first into the turnbuckles. Borne drags Deeb to the middle of the ring and takes her down with a swinging neck-breaker. Borne goes for the cover, but Deeb kicks out at two. Borne beats down Deeb with right hands and goes for another cover, but Deeb kicks out again.
Borne picks Deeb up and delivers a fall-away slam. Borne goes for the cover, but Deeb kicks out again. Borne goes for a splash, but Deeb moves out of the way. Borne goes for a clothesline, but Deeb ducks under and connects with a spear off the ropes and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Serena Deeb.

We take a look at the next two competitors, Zeda and Shayna Baszler.

Match #3: Tournament First Round Match – Shayna Baszler vs. Zeda
Zeda goes after Baszler’s leg, but Baszler counters and goes for a quick arm-bar submission. Zeda counters and applies a headlock, but Baszler counters and goes right back to the arm-bar. Zeda gets her shoulders on the mat, but Baszler quickly kicks out. Baszler shoves Zeda down to the mat and kicks the back of her leg and then kicks her into the corner. Baszler goes for a knee strike in the corner, but Zeda moves and delivers a series of right hands. Zeda delivers a monkey flip and goes for the cover, but Baszler kicks out at two. Zeda goes for a suplex, but Baszler blocks. Zeda applies a front face lock instead, but Baszler counters and delivers a back-breaker and then the cobra submission and Zeda taps out.
Winner: Shayna Baszler.

We take a look at the next two competitors, Jazzy Gabert and Abbey Laith.

Match #4: Tournament First Round Match – Abbey Laith vs. Jazzy Gabert
Laith comes out firing, but Gabert shoves her away every time. Gabert slams Laith down to the mat and then tosses her across the ring. Gabert tosses Laith across the ring again and goes for a clothesline, but Laith ducks under. Laith comes off the ropes, but Gabert drops her again. Laith comes back and delivers a jaw-breaker, but Gabert sends her off the ropes. Laith goes for an arm-drag, but Garbet counters and drops her with a clothesline. Gabert goes for the cover, but Laith kicks out at one. Gabert delivers clubbing shots and goes for the cover again, but Laith kicks out again. Gabert applies a submission, but Laith fights out of it. Gabert keeps control and backs Laith into the corner. Gabert delivers a few shoulder shots and then takes Laith down to the mat again.
Gabert applies a rear choke down on the mat and then slams her across the face as Laith fights out of the submission. Laith tries to come off the ropes, but Gabert catches her and slams her down to the mat. Gabert goes for an unsound cover and Laith easily kicks out. Gabert picks Laith up, but Laith gets free and locks a modified tarantula submission against the ropes. She breaks the hold at four and then delivers a series of kicks to Gabert down on the mat. Laith goes for the cover, but Gabert kicks out at two. Laith goes up top, but Gabert cuts her off. Gabert takes Laith down with an arm-drag, but Laith comes back with a few kicks and then a low dropkick that sends Gabert to the corner. Laith goes up top again and then connects with a senton. Laith goes for the cover, but Gabert kicks out at two.
Gabert fires up and drops Laith with a huge clothesline from the corner and then beats her down on the mat. Gabert grabs Laith and then goes for a power slam, but Laith counters with a roll up and get the pin fall.
Winner: Abbey Laith.
After the match, Gabert gets in Laith’s face but then extends her hand for a handshake and gives her a hug as well.

We get a video package of the four winners from today, and then a run down of the four matches on episode 2.
