7/26/17 WWE NXT Recap: Ember Moon, Velveteen Dream in Action; AOP/SAnitY Altercation; Itami vs. Ohno Main Event

We see the opening video for episode 403 of NXT and then go into the NXT Arena where Mauro Ranallo, Percy Watson, and Nigel McGuinness welcome us to the show. We are reminded of tonight’s main event: a singles match between Kassius Ohno and Hideo Itami. We also see tha we will here from the number one contender for the NXT Championship, Drew McIntyre, later tonight.

Match #1: Ember Moon vs. Lei’D Tapa
Tapa clotheslines Moon into the corner and then delivers a big headbutt. Tapa tosses Moon into the corner and charges, but Moon counters with a boot to the face. Moon takes Tapa down to the mat and then goes up top and hits the Eclipse for the pin fall.
Winner: Ember Moon.
After the match, Moon grabs a mic and says she wants Asuka at TakeOver: Brooklyn III. Moon says she will give Asuka the competition that she desires. Moon says they have been on a journey before and she is not afraid to do it again. Moon says she is ready to defeated the undefeated Empress of Tomorrow. Moon asks Asuka if she is ready for Ember Moon.

We see a tweet from Roderick Strong that tells Bobby Roode that he hasn’t seen the end of Strong. We see that The Authors of Pain will be in action later tonight as we head to a break.

Back from the break, we see a video hype package for Aleister Black. We then see that “Poison Pens” by Creeper will be one of the official theme songs for TakeOver: Brooklyn III.

Match #2: David Ramos and Timothy Bumpers vs. The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) (w/Paul Ellering)
Before the match, Nikki Cross stops AOP and Ellering on the stage and Alexander Wolfe and Killian Dain destroy Ramon and Bumpers in the ring. Akam and Rezar walk around Cross and get into the ring with Wolfe and Dain. The four men brawl in the ring and Akam smashes Wolfe in the corner. Dain drops Rezar with a big clothesline, but Rezar gets right back up and he and Akam double team Wolfe and then turn their attention to Dain and send him to the floor as well. AOP stands tall in the ring as SAnitY regroups on the outside.

We see that The Velveteen Dream will be in action later tonight. We then see a video hype package for NXT’s newest tag team, The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford).

Back from the break, we take a look back to two months ago when Andrade Almas lost to Cezar Bononi, and then Almas attacking No Way Jose last week after Jose beat Bononi. We see footage of an altercation between Jose and Almas’ girl, Zolita Vega, from earlier today. Vega says Jose interfered in her business with Almas and lit a fire in Almas that he won’t be able to dance around.

Match #3: The Velveteen Dream vs. Cezar Bononi
Dream backs Bononi into the corner and delivers an European uppercut. Dream clubs Bononi across the back and keeps on the attack. Bononi fires up and drops Dream with a few right hands and then connects with an atomic drop. Bononi takes Dream down with a dropkick and then a Falcon Arrow. Bononi goes for the cover, but Dream kicks out at two. Bononi connects with a back elbow, but Dream turns it into a death valley bomb. Dream goes up top and connects with the Purple Rainmaker elbow drop and gets the pin fall.
Winner: The Velveteen Dream.
After the match Kayla Braxton asks Dream what his goals are in NXT. He asks her what her goals are. He said he might answer her, but not in front of the ugliness that is the NXT Universe. He says the Velveteen Experience will have to wait.

We see William Regal in his office. He says he believes Ember Moon is ready and makes the match between her and Asuka for the NXT Women’s Championship at TakeOver: Brooklyn III official.

We see that Drew McIntyre will address the NXT Universe after the break.

Back from the break, we see that “No Fear” by Phil Ade feat. Saba Abraha and Tate Kobang will be one of the official theme songs for TakeOver: Brooklyn III.

Drew McIntyre’s music hits and the number one contender makes his way to the ring. He says in one month’s time, the main event for TakeOver: Brooklyn III will be Bobby Roode vs. Drew McIntyre for the NXT title. He thanks everyone that has been with him the entire time and says we only have four short weeks until TakeOver. He says he only goes forwards. He says during his time in WWE, he was known as the Chosen One. He says he expected everything to be given to him and felt entitled. He says when he wasn’t the hardest worker in the room, he failed. He says it was his responsibility to be the hardest worker in the room, but he wasn’t. He says he became the hardest worker in the whole world. He says he signed with NXT to push himself and everyone around him to be the best in the world. He says they all work side-by-side as equals, except for Bobby Roode. He says all he sees when he looks as Roode is entitlement. He says Roode is not entitled to a damn thing. He says this is not Roode’s NXT. This is the NXT Universe’s NXT. He tells the crowd to stand with him and says Roode is not NXT, but he and the NXT Universe are NXT.

We see that tonight’s main event, Kassius Ohno vs. Hideo Itami, is up next. We then see another video hype package for Aleister Black.

Back from the break, we see that Bobby Roode will address the NXT Universe and Drew McIntyre next week. We also see that Johnny Gargano will take on Raul Mendoza next week. We see an interview with Mendoza. He says maybe next week isn’t about Gargano’s return, but it’s about Raul Mendoza.

Match #4: Hideo Itami vs. Kassius Ohno
They lock up and Ohno grounds Itami with a wrist-lock. Itami tries to trip Ohno up, but Ohno turns it into a headlock down on the mat. Itami gets free and kicks Ohno in the midsection. Itami delivers a forearm, but Ohno comes back with one of his own. Ohno chops Itami against the ropes, but Itami comes back with kicks across Ohno’s chest. Ohno comes back with a dropkick to Itami and goes for the cover, but Itami kicks out at two. Ohno chops Itami against the ropes and then kicks him in the face. Ohno drops Itami with another kick, but Itami hangs Ohno in the ropes and slaps him across the face. Itami goes up top and connects with a guillotine leg drop that sends Ohno to the floor as we head to a break.
Back from the break and Itami kicks Ohno in the midsection back in the ring. Itami takes Ohno down to the mat and goes for the cover, but Ohno kicks out at two. Itami delivers a big chop to Ohno to keep him grounded. Itami kicks Ohno across the chest a few times and then delivers one to the face. Itami drops Ohno with a reverse neck-breaker and goes for the cover, but Ohno kicks out at two. Itami applies a rear chin-lock down on the mat and drives his knee into Ohno’s back. Itami kicks Ohno in the back and then delivers more kicks across the chest. Itami goes for the cover, but Ohno kicks out at two again. (We see that Asuka will return to NXT next week.)
Itami applies a headlock down on the mat, but Ohno comes back with knife-edge chops. Ohno takes Itami to the corner, but Itami comes back with a tornado DDT. Ohno comes back with clotheslines and then delivers a shining wizard. Ohno delivers a boot to the face and goes for the cover, but Itami kicks out at two. Ohno delivers a senton and goes for the cover, but Itami kicks out at two again. Ohno sets Itami up in the corner, but Itami gets free and kicks Ohno in the midsection. Itami takes Ohno down with a fisherman’s suplex. Itami delivers a hesitation dropkick in the corner and then sets up for the GTS. Ohno gets free and kicks Itami in the face as Itami comes off the ropes. Ohno goes for the rolling elbow, but Itami kicks him below the belt and the referee calls for the bell.
Winner via disqualification: Kassius Ohno.
After the match, Itami takes Ohno to the corner and kicks him across the chest. Itami picks Ohno up and delivers two GTS’s to him. Itami leaves the ring, but stops and turns around. Itami drags Ohno out of the ring and slams him face-first into the steps. Itami walks up the ramp and then heads backstage as Ohno is left lying at ringside.
