7/19/17 NXT Recap: Ember vs. Ruby, Lorcan vs. Burch; Jose Returns to Action; McIntyre vs. Dain No. 1 Contender’s Match

The NXT opening video plays for episode 402 and then we go into the arena where Mauro Ranallo, Percy Watson, and Nigel McGuinness welcome us to the show. We are reminded of tonight’s main event: Drew McIntyre vs. Killian Dain, where the winner advances to face Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III.

Match #1: Ember Moon vs. Ruby Riot
They lock up and Ember applies a side-headlock. Ember goes for a roll-up, but Ruby counters into one of her own, each getting a one count. They continue to exchange roll-ups and get two counts this time. They lock up again and Ruby takes Ember down with an arm drag. Ruby goes for a monkey flip, but Ember lands on her feet. They go for a test of strength and Ruby drops Ember with a few more arm drags. Ruby takes Ember down with a hurricanrana and goes for the cover, but Ember kicks out at one. Ruby applies a read chin-lock down on the mat, but Ember gets to her feet and drops Ruby with a drop toe hold. Ember applies a bow and arrow submission in the middle of the ring, but Ruby counters into a cover and Ember kicks out at two. Ruby slams Ember into the turnbuckle and then drops her with a clothesline and a back elbow. Ruby takes Ember down with a suplex and goes for the cover, but Ember kicks out at two. Ember comes back with a kick to the midsection and then delivers a back-breaker. Ember goes for the cover, but Ruby kicks out at two as we head to a break.
We’re back and Ruby drives a shoulder into Ember’s midsection. Ruby goes up top and connects with a senton. Ruby goes for the cover, but Ember kicks out at two. Ruby takes Ember to the corner and charges, but Ember moves out of the way. Ember slams Ruby to the mat and goes for the cover, but Ruby kicks out at two. Ember goes up top, but Ruby cuts her off. Ruby climbs up top as well and delivers a Frankensteiner to Ember. Ruby goes for the cover, but Ember kicks out at two. Ruby connects with a right hand and a kick, but Ember comes right back with a discus forearm that sends Ruby down to the mat. Ember kicks Ruby in the face and then delivers a back-breaker. Ember climbs to the top and delivers the Eclipse and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Ember Moon.

We see an interview with Kassius Ohno from earlier today. He says the entire landscape of NXT has changed since his last run. Hideo Itami interrupts and asks if Ohno asked for a match between them and Ohno says he did. Itami gets angry and leaves the room. The match between Ohno and Itami will take place on next weeks show. We see that a match between Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch is coming up next.

We see a vignette for Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins, collectively known as The Street Prophets, who will debut soon.

Match #2: Oney Lorcan vs. Danny Burch
They lock up and Burch backs Lorcan into the corner. Lorcan applies a side headlock and takes Burch down to the mat, but Burch gets free. They lock up again and Burch backs Lorcan into the corner again. Lorcan turns it around and backs Burch into the corner, but Burch connects with a right hand. Burch stomps away on Lorcan in the corner. Burch goes up top and delivers a dropkick. Burch charges at Lorcan, but Lorcan counters with a back elbow. Butch comes right back with the Tower of London in the corner and goes for the cover, but Lorcan kicks out at two. Lorcan comes back with a neck-breaker and then delivers a European uppercut. Lorcan goes for the cover, but Burch kicks out at two. They get nose-to-nose and then exchange uppercuts. Lorcan slaps Burch across the face a few times and comes off the ropes, but Burch drops him with a huge clothesline. Burch delivers a power bomb to Lorcan and goes for the cover, but Lorcan kicks out at two. Burch goes for a superplex on Lorcan, but Lorcan shoves him away. Lorcan hops down and quickly applies a single-leg Boston crab and Burch taps out.
Winner: Oney Lorcan.
After the match, Lorcan and Burch shake hands and Burch challenges Lorcan to a rematch at a future date. Lorcan accepts the challenge and leaves the ring.

We see Killian Dain getting ready for tonight’s main event as we head to a break.

Match #3: No Way Jose vs. Cezar Bononi
Jose applies a wrist-lock and takes Bononi down to the mat with an arm drag. Bononi comes back and delivers an elbow to the back of Jose’s head. Bononi beats down Jose in the corner and then drops him with a dropkick. Bononi goes for the cover, but Jose kicks out at one. Bononi delivers knee shots, but Jose comes back with a shot to the midsection and then a series of chops that send Bononi to the corner. Jose delivers a forearm shot in the corner and then drops him with a clothesline. Jose drops Bononi with the pop-up forearm shot and gets the pin fall.
Winner: No Way Jose.
After the match, Andrade “Cien” Almas and his female friend are seen at ringside. Almas hops into the ring and beats down Bononi. He stares down Jose, who gets back into the ring. Almas scrambles out of the ring and he and his friend go through the crowd as Jose stares them down.

We see Drew McIntyre preparing for his match backstage. The main event is up next.

We see that “Bleeding in the Blur” by Code Orange will be one of the theme songs for NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III.

Match #4: #1 Contender’s (NXT Championship) Match – Drew McIntyre vs. Killian Dain
They lock up and Dain backs McIntyre into the corner. They shove each other around the ring and McIntyre backs Dain into the corner and delivers a few forearm shots. McIntyre goes up top and delivers a forearm across Dain’s chest. Dain comes back and takes McIntyre down with a low cross-body as we head to a break.
We’re back and Dain is still in control of the match. Dain sends McIntyre into the corner and McIntyre drops to the mat. Dain delivers an elbow drop and goes for the cover, but McIntyre kicks out at two. Dain keeps going for covers, but McIntyre kicks out at two each time. Dain delivers a series of cross-face shots to McIntyre and then delivers a knee to the face. Dain goes for the cover, but McIntyre kicks out at two again. Dain wrenches McIntyre’s neck down on the mat, but McIntyre comes back with midsection shots and a jaw-breaker. Dain comes right back with a big clothesline that drops McIntyre to the mat. Dain puts McIntyre on the top rope and delivers a forearm shot. McIntyre comes back and delivers a power bomb to Dain. McIntyre goes for the cover, but Dain kicks out at two. Dain and McIntyre exchange right hands, and then McIntyre delivers a kick to the face. McIntyre drops Dain with a clothesline and then picks up and slams Dain down to the mat. McIntyre goes for the cover, but Dain kicks out at two. McIntyre goes for the Claymore Kick, but Dain counters and drops McIntyre with the Belfast Blitz and a Vader Bomb. Dain goes for the cover, but McIntyre kicks out at two. Dain picks McIntyre up in an electric chair, but McIntyre counters. Dain comes right back with an underhook suplex and goes for the cover, but McIntyre kicks out at two. Dain power bombs McIntyre and drops an elbow. Dain goes for the cover, but McIntyre kicks out at two. Dain places McIntyre on the top rope and delivers a fisherman’s suplex from the top rope. Dain goes for the cover, but McIntyre kicks out at two. Dain goes for a clothesline, but McIntyre counters with the future shock DDT. McIntyre goes for the cover, but Dain powerfully kicks out at one. McIntyre gets to his feet and connects with the Claymore, but Dain gets to his feet again. McIntyre connects with the Claymore again and gets the pin fall.
Winner and number one contender for the NXT Championship: Drew McIntyre.
