1987 – Day 1 of the second Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Cup is held in Baltimore, in front of 9,300 fans.  The following tag teams had first round byes for this tournament:  Rick Rude & Manny Fernandez, The Road Warriors, Giant Baba & Iaso Takagi, The Midnight Express, The Super Powers (Dusty Rhodes & Nikita Koloff), The Russian Team, and Lex Luger & Tully Blanchard.

1st Round Matches:

– Bob & Brad Armstrong defeat Arn Anderson & Kevin Sullivan.
– The MOD Squad (Basher & Spike) defeat Wahoo McDaniel & Baron von Raschke.
– Denny Brown & Chris Champion defeat Randy & Bill Mulkey.
– Steve Keirn & George South fought Mike Graham & Nelson Royal to a draw.
Shaska Whatley & Tiger Conway, Jr. defeat Jimmy Valiant & Lazor-Tron.
Ron & Jimmy Garvin defeat Ricky Lee Jones & The Italian Stallion.
– The Thunderfoots (1 & 2) defeat Rocky King & Bobby Jaggers.

The Rock N’ Roll Express receive a bye (in truth, Ricky Morton was hurt, and the Express would forfeit their match the next night).

– Ole Anderson defeats Big Bubba Rogers, in a Last Man Standing Steel Cage Match.

1987Owen Hart defeats Makhan Singh, to win the Stampede Wrestling North American Heavyweight Championship.

1999Jushin Thunder Liger & The Great Sasuke defeat Dr. Wagner, Jr. & Kendo Kashin, to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship.

2000 – In the Monday Night Wars, WWF RAW IS WAR (6.2 TV rating) doubles the rating for WCW Monday Nitro (3.1).  Monday Nitro features the return of both Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff, joining together to attempt to “reboot” WCW.  As part of the reboot, all WCW titles are vacated, with tournaments created to crown new champions.  The WCW Television Championship is retired after a 26-year run.

In the main event over on RAW, The Rock defeats Bull Buchanan & The Big Boss Man, in a Handicap Steel Cage Match;  The Rock receives a future match with Triple H for the WWF Championship.

2002Keiji Mutoh wins the AJPW Champion Carnival, defeating Mike Barton in the finals.

2007Mistico defeats Mephisto, to win the CMLL World Welterweight Championship.

2009 – In a “Tables are Legal” Match, The American Wolves (Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards) defeat El Generico & Kevin Steen, to win the ROH World Tag Team Championship.  The title change would air on the May 30th episode of Ring of Honor Wrestling.

2014 – On Impact Wrestling, Eric Young defeats Magnus, to win the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.

2016 – NJPW’s Invasion Attack 2016 is held in Tokyo, Japan in front of 9,078 fans.  The following title changes occurred at the event.

Rocky Romero & Baretta defeat Ricochet & Matt Sydal, to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship.
Hiroshi Tanahashi, Michael Elgin, & Yoshitatsu defeat Kenny Omega, Nick Jackson, & Matt Jackson, to win the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship.
Tama Tonga & Tanga Roa defeat Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma, to win the IWGP Tag Team Championship.
Tetsuya Naito defeats Kazuchika Okada, to win the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO:  former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Jax Dane (36 years old);  and former TNA wrestler Jesse Neal (37 years old).

Today would’ve been the 63rd birthday for WWE Hall of Famer Paul Bearer.  Today would’ve been the 92nd birthday for WCW Hall of Famer Angelo Poffo.
