Happy birthday, Macho Man!!

1983 – On a taping of Championship Wrestling, The Soul Patrol (Tony Atlas and Rocky Johnson) defeat The Wild Samoans, to win the WWF Tag Team Championship.  This would be televised December 9th.

1989 – WCW Clash of the Champions IX: New York Knockout is held in Troy, New York in front of 4,000 fans.  The show draws a 4.9 TV rating for TBS.  Lex Luger retains the NWA United States Championship by defeating Brian Pillman.  And Ric Flair defeats Terry Funk in an “I Quit” Match.  Full results can be found here.

1998 – WWF Survivor Series is held in St. Louis in front of 21,179 fans.  Sable becomes the new Women’s Champion after defeating JacquelineThe New Age Outlaws retain the WWF Tag Team Championship after winning a Triple Threat Match against The Headbangers and the team of D’Lo Brown & Mark Henry.  In the main event, The Rock defeats Mankind to win the vacant WWF Championship.  Mankind also competed in the first match of the pay-per-view, pinning Duane Gill, in his WWF debut, in 30 seconds.  Gill is better known as “Gillberg,” a parody of WCW star Goldberg.  Full results of this pay-per-view can be found here.

1999 – In the Monday Night Wars, WWF Raw Is War (6.3 TV rating) beats WCW Monday Nitro (3.1 rating).

2004 – In a Three-Way Elimination Match on WWE RAW, William Regal and Eugene defeat La Resistance (Robert Conway and Sylvain Grenier) and the team of Rhyno and Tajiri, to win the World Tag Team Championship.

2005 – At an untelevised live event in Rome, Italy, Nunzio defeats Juventud, to win the WWE Cruiserweight Championship.

2006 – In Ohio Valley Wrestling, El Aero Fuego (formerly knowns as Seth Skyfire) defeats Charles Evans, to win the OVW Television Championship.

2007 – After appearing at the Genesis pay-per-view four days earlier, Booker T and Sharmell sign official contracts to become TNA Wrestling’s latest acquisitions, on this evening’s Impact! episode.

2009 – TNA Turning Point is held at the Impact! Zone in Orlando in front of 1,100 fans.  Amazing Red retains the X Division Championship by defeating HomicideThe British Invasion retain the TNA World Tag Team Championship after winning a Three-Way Tag Team Match.  And A.J. Styles retains the TNA World Heavyweight Championship after defeating Daniels and Samoa Joe in a Three-Way Match.  Full results can be found here.

2010 – WWE Old School Raw is held in Hershey, Pennsylvania.  The three-hour show featured former WWF personalities such as:  “Mean Gene” Okerlund, Mae Young, The Brooklyn Brawler, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, Sgt. Slaughter, and Howard Finkel.  The ring (with red, white, and blue ropes) and theme music from 1993 were used, as RAW had debuted that year.

2014 – Ring of Honor Glory By Honor XIII is held in San Antonio, Texas.  reDRagon (Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly) retain the ROH World Tag Team Championship by defeating The Kingdom (Michael Bennett and Matt Tavern)Jay Lethal retains the ROH Television Championship by defeating R.D. Evans.  And Jay Briscoe retains the ROH World Championship by defeating ACH.  Full results can be found here.

Today would’ve been the 64th birthday for “Macho Man” Randy Savage.  Savage was a 2-time WWF Champion and a 4-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion.  He was the 1987 King of the Ring Winner, and a 2015 Inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame.  Savage is also in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame (Class of 1996), and a 2009 Inductee into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame.
