10/5/16 NXT Recap: 2016 Dusty Classic Kicks Off

NXT opens with William Regal announcing the return of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament, with the First Round beginning tonight. We then see the usual NXT opening video and then go into the NXT Arena at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida.

Match #1: Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament First Round Match – The Bollywood Boyz (Gurv and Harv Sihra) vs. The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) (w/Paul Ellering)

Rezar and Harv start the match and Rezar quickly drops Harv to the mat. Rezar grabs Harv and puts him on the top rope and tags in Akam. Akam comes into the ring, but Harv counters with a jaw-breaker and tags in Gurv. Gurv charges at Akam, but Akam takes him down and tags in Rezar. Akam and Rezar deliver double knees to Gurv and then deliver a double gut-buster. Rezar sends Harv out to the floor and splashes Gurv in the corner. Akam and Rezar double-team Gurv to the mat with their finisher, now dubbed as The Last Chapter, and get the pin fall.
Winners: The Authors of Pain.

We see the video hype package for Dan Matha’s debut, which is later tonight.

Match #2: Rich Swann vs. Patrick Clark
They tie up and Clark applies a headlock. Swann sends Clark off the ropes, but Clark comes back with a shoulder tackle. Clark runs the ropes, but Swann comes back and flips over Clark and then delivers a heel kick to the face. Swann delivers a chop in the corner and then charges at Clark, but Clark moves out of the way. Clark comes back with a spine-buster and goes for the cover, but Swann kicks out at two. Clark applies a half-Nelson chin-lock down on the mat and wrenches the neck of Swann, but Swann fights back to his feet. Clark takes Swann to the corner, but Swann gets free and delivers a big kick to Clark. Swann delivers a running knee in the corner and then connects with a spinning heel kick that takes Clark down in the middle of the ring and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Rich Swann.

We take a look back to two weeks ago on NXT and look at the main event match between Cedric Alexander and Andrade “Cien” Almas, which was won by Alexander. We then see that Alexander and Almas will take on The Revival in a Dusty Classic Tournament Match later tonight.

We take a look back at last weeks NXT and look at the match between Asuka and Liv Morgan, which was won by Asuka. We then see Asuka’s post-match promo where she said that nobody is ready for her. We then see Peyton Royce and Billie Kay making fun of Liv Morgan while she was being tended to by the doctor.

Match #3: Peyton Royce (w/Billie Kay) vs. Danielle Kamela
They tie up and Danielle goes behind with a waist-lock. Peyton comes back with a scoop slam, but Danielle goes for a quick roll-up and Peyton kicks out. Peyton sends Danielle off the ropes, but Danielle comes back with a cross-body. Danielle goes for a cover, but Peyton kicks out. Peyton comes right back and slams Danielle down to the mat and goes for the cover, but Danielle kicks out. Peyton chokes Danielle over the middle rope and then slams her into the turnbuckle. Peyton chokes Danielle with a boot in the corner, but Danielle fights back. Peyton takes her down with a right hand and drivers a knee into Danielle’s back. Peyton applies a headlock down on the mat. Danielle tries to escape, but Peyton keeps the headlock locked in and then turns it into a rear-naked choke. Danielle fights to her feet and backs Peyton into the corner, but Peyton comes back with a knee to the face and then a fisherman’s suplex for the pin fall.
Winner: Peyton Royce.

We go backstage and Charlie is interviewing Bobby Roode and Tye Dillinger. She asks how training is going and Tye goes to answer, but Roode interrupts. Roode says next week will be the next big step in Tye Dillinger’s career. Tye says Dusty meant the world to him and Roode says next week will be GLORIOUS! Charlie asks if they know anything about SAnitY, but Roode asks her why she would ask about SAnitY when the Glorious Ten is in front of her. Roode pulls Dillinger away to end the segment.

We see than Dan Matha’s debut will happen after the break.

Dan Matha’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring, but Samoa Joe comes out and beats down Matha before the match begins. Joe grabs a mic and says, “Tick, tock, tick tock, who will be the next to get their head rocked?” Joe says he just took out the bluechip prospect and more of NXT’s future will suffer until he gets what he wants. Joe tells William Regal to bring Shinsuke Nakamura to him or give him the NXT Championship. Joe walks away and tells Regal, to the camera, that he has one week or Joe will escalate things.

We see the NXT Tag Team Champions, The Revival, walking backstage. Their match is next.

We see Dasha Fuentes backstage with No Way Jose and Rich Swann. She asks why they decided to team up in the Dusty Classic. Jose says Rich has been through a lot and when life had him down he said, “NO WAY!” Rich says Jose is full of energy and likes to dance, but he is full of Dominican fire. Rich asks all the other teams if they “Can handle this?” and Jose ends it with “No Way…Jose.”

We see the video hype package for SAnitY, who will debut next week in the Dusty Classic.

Match #4: Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament First Round Match: Andrade “Cien” Almas and Cedric Alexander vs. The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder)

Alexander and Wilder start the match, but Wilder tags in Dawson immediately and tries to get the upperhand. Almas gets into the ring and the referee separates the teams. Alexander sends Dawson off the ropes, but Dawson takes him down with a shoulder tackle. Alexander comes back and takes Dawson down with an arm-drag, and then delivers one to Wilder as well. Almas deliver a double-DDT to Dash and Dawson and sends them to the floor as he and Alexander kip-up. Dawson gets back into the ring and Alexander tags in Almas. Almas works over Dawson’s arm, but Dawson comes back and takes Almas down and tags in Wilder. Wilder keeps the offense going for his team and tags in Dawson again. Dawson backs Almas into the ropes, but Alexander tags in. Alexander and Almas send Dawson and Wider to the floor and then Alexander launches to the outside and takes them down on the entrance ramp. Alexander tosses Dawson back into the ring and goes for the cover, but Dawson kicks out at two. Almas tags back in and works over Dawson’s arm. Almas goes after Wilder after Wilder distracted him, but Dawson takes control and beats down Almas. Wilder tags in and continues the beat down and sends Almas into the ring post as we head to a break.
Back from the break, Dawson is working over Almas’ shoulder. Dawson goes for the cover, but Almas kicks out. Dawson tags in Wilder and Wilder continues the work on Almas’ shoulder. Wilder goes for the cover, but Almas kicks out at two. Almas fights to his feet, but Wilder grounds him again and tags in Dawson. Dawson runs the ropes and drops an elbow on Almas. Dawson goes for a cover, but Almas kicks out at two. Dawson sends Almas to the corner and Almas delivers an elbow to Wilder. Almas rolls up Dawson, but Wilder distracts the referee and Dawson kicks out. Wilder tags in and takes Almas down before he can tag Alexander. Wilder goe sup top and jumps off, but Almas gets a boot up. Wilder catches Almas’ boot, but Almas takes him down anyway and Dawson and Alexander tag in. Alexander delivers a running knee and a handspring enzuiguri to Dawson. Alexander goes for the cover, but Wilder makes the save. Almas shoves Wilder into Dawson and Alexander rolls up Dawson, but Dawson kicks out at two. Alexander goes for the tag, but Wilder pulls Almas to the floor. Wilder gets in the ring and he and Dawson take Alexander out with the Shatter Machine and Dawson gets the pin fall.
Winners: The Revival.
After the match, Almas turns on Alexander and beats him down in the ring. Almas sends Alexander to the floor and continues the beat down on the outside. Almas slams Alexander face-first into the steel steps and then kicks him against the barricade.

The referee checks on Alexander and Almas knees down on the stage as NXT comes to a close.
