1944 – At the EMLL 11th Anniversary Show, Gorilla Ramos defeats Black Guzman, to win the Mexican National Light Heavyweight Championship (Best two-out-of-three Falls Match).
1961 – EMLL holds it’s 28th Anniversary Show in Mexico City in front of 17,000 fans. At the event, Rene Guajardo defeats El Santo, to retain the NWA World Middleweight Championship. And Gory Guerrero defeats Ray Mendoza, to retain the NWA World Light Heavyweight Championship. Both were Best two-out-of-three Falls Matches.
1966 – Baron Mikel Scicluna and Smasher Sloan defeat Antonio Pugliese and Johnny Valentine, to win the WWWF United States Tag Team Championship.
1970 – Paul Jones and Nelson Royal defeat Gene and Ole Anderson, to win the NWA Atlantic Coast Tag Team Championship.
1978– The EMLL 45th Anniversary Show is held in Mexico City. Tony Salazar defeats Satoru Sayama, to retain the NWA World Middleweight Championship (Best two-out-of-three Falls Match). In a tag team match, Sangre Chicana and Rubi Rubaclava defeat El Cobarde and Dragon Rojo (Best two-out-of-three Falls, Hair and Mask vs. Hair and Hair Match).
1989 – The EMLL 56th Anniversary Show is held in Mexico City, in front of 17,000 fans. Four of the five matches on the card were Best two-out-of-three Falls, six-man “Lucha Libre Rules” Tag Team Matches.
-Winners and Los Solars defeat Hombre Bala and Los Texas Rangers.
-Anguilita Solitaria, Fuercita Guerrera, and Mascarita Sagrada defeat Espectrito, Pequeno Goliath, and Piratita Morgan.
-El Faraon, Lizmark, and Rayo de Jalisco, Jr. defeat Sangre Chicana and Los Hermanos Dinamita.
-Blue Panther, Jerry Estrada, and Pirata Morgan defeat Blue Demon, Jr., El Dandy, and Mascara Sagrada.
-In the main event (Hair-and-Mask vs. Hair-and-Mask Match), Atlantis and El Satanico defeat Los Infernales and MS-1.
1995 – Gran Hamada defeats Koji Kanemoto, to win the UWA World Welterweight Championship.
1995 – The CMLL 62nd Anniversary Show is held in Mexico City.
-In a Best two-out-of-three Falls Tag Team Match, Mogur and Chicago Express defeat Javier Cruz and Xavier Rocca.
-These next three matches were all Best two-out-of-three Falls, Six-Man, “Luche Libre” Rules Tag Team Matches. In the first, Los Brazos defeats El Satanico, Mocho Cota, and Gran Markus, Jr.
-Negro Casas and Los Hermanos Dinamatas defeat Hijo del Santo, Dos Caras, and Rayo de Jalisco, Jr.
-Ricky Santana, El Boricua, and Foreign Exchange defeat Pierroth Jr., Emilio Charles, Jr., and Dr. Wagner Jr.
-In the main event Miguel Perez, Jr. defeats Silver King, in a Best two-out-of-three Falls, Hair vs. Hair Match.
1996 – WWE’s In Your House 10: Mind Games is held in Philadelphia in front of 15,000 fans.
-In dark match #1, Jake Roberts defeats Hunter Hearst Helmsley.
-In dark match #2, Faarooq defeats Marc Mero.
-In dark match #3, Sycho Sid defeats Vader.
-In dark match #4, Savio Vega defeats Marty Jannetty. Savio is attacked after the match by Justin Bradshaw (aka JBL).
-In the first match of the pay-per-view, Savio Vega defeats Justin Bradshaw in a Caribbean Strap Match. This was Bradshaw’s first match in a WWE pay-per-view. During the match, Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman from ECW, who were sitting ringside, got involved in the match and were eventually thrown out of the arena.
-Jose Lothario defeats Jim Cornette.
-Owen Hart and The British Bulldog defeat The Smoking Gunns, to win the WWE Tag Team Championship.
-Mark Henry, in his WWE in-ring debut, defeats Jerry Lawler via submission.
-The Undertaker defeats Goldust in a Final Curtain Match.
-Shawn Michaels defeats Mankind, via disqualification, to retain the WWE Championship. Mankind was disqualified after Vader interfered in the match and attacked Michaels.
1997 – In the Monday Night Wars, WCW Monday Nitro (3.7 TV rating) defeats WWE RAW IS WAR (2.35 rating). On this evening’s episode of Nitro, Disco Inferno defeats Alex Wright, to win the WCW World Television Championship. Curt Hennig defeats Jeff Jarrett, to retain the United States Championship. And Bill Goldberg makes his WCW debut, defeating Hugh Morrus in his first match.
Over on RAW, Cactus Jack makes his WWE debut. And Stone Cold Steve Austin gives a stunner to Vince McMahon, beginning the historic feud between the two.
2000 – In Memphis Championship Wrestling, Spanky (Brian Kendrick) defeats American Dragon (Bryan Danielson), to win the MCW Southern Light Heavyweight Championship.
2000 – At a WCW house show in Amarillo, Texas, Terry Funk defeats Lance Storm, to win the WCW United States Championship. While the title change was not recognized by WCW, it is recognized in WWE’s lineage of the title’s history.
2002 – WWE Unforgiven is held in Los Angeles in front of 16,000 fans.
-In a match on Sunday Night Heat, Rey Mysterio defeats Chavo Guerrero.
-In an eight-man tag team match, the team of Kane, Goldust, Booker T, and Bubba Ray Dudley defeat the Un-Americans (Christian, Test, Lance Storm, and William Regal).
-Chris Jericho defeats Ric Flair, via submission, to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
-Eddie Guerrero defeats Edge.
-In a tag team match, 3-Minute Warning (Rosey and Jamal) defeat Billy and Chuck.
-Triple H defeats Rob Van Dam, to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.
-Trish Stratus defeats Molly Holly, to win the WWE Women’s Championship for the third time.
-Chris Benoit defeats Kurt Angle.
-The match between Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker ends in a double-disqualification. Lesnar retains the championship.
2004 – Ray Traylor, Jr., aka The Big Boss Man, dies at age 41 after suffering a heart attack. Boss Man was a 4-time WWE Hardcore Champion, and was a Tag Team Champion with Ken Shamrock. Boss Man was posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2016.
2006 – WWE Friday Night SmackDown begins airing on The CW.
2010 – Mickie James signs a contract with TNA Wrestling, five months after her release from WWE.
2010 – Former WCW / WWE wrestler Jorge “Giant” Gonzalez passes away at age 44, after complications from diabetes and severe heart issues.
2014 – On WWE RAW, Dolph Ziggler defeats The Miz, to win the Intercontinental Championship.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO: WCW Hall of Fame Class of 1994 Inductee Ole Anderson (turns 74 today), two-time AWA World Tag Team Champion Doug Somers (turns 65 today), former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Bob Sapp (turns 43 today), and former WCW / WWE wrestler Luther Reigns (turns 45 today).
