NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II Recap

Aug 20, 2016 - by Michael Riba

Preshow:

The NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II Preshow kicks off from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and Renee Young, Lita, and Mauro Ranallo welcome us to the show. We take a look back at this past Wednesday’s NXT and the interview with Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura that broke down into a near brawl. We see Shinsuke Nakamura arriving to the arena later today, followed by Samoa Joe arriving with the NXT Championship draped over his shoulder. Ranallo says we have two of the most bad ass guys in the main event tonight and it will be a hard-hitting encounter.

We head outside and join Charly Caruso, who is with some of the fans. She says tonight is going to be an exciting night and brings up the NXT Women’s Championship Match between the champion, Asuka, and her challenger, Bayley. We then see the video hype package for the feud between Asuka and Bayley and their match tonight. We go back to the preshow panel and Lita says this new edge and attitude that Bayley has could be enough to get her the NXT Women’s Championship for the second time. Ranallo says Asuka is the top of the food chain in NXT and will continue her reign tonight. Lita says Bayley knows what to expect tonight, unlike in Dallas, and will get it done.

Renee brings up the feud between Austin Aries and No Way Jose. Lita says Jose could put himself on the map tonight if he can get the win, and Ranallo says Aries needs to get the win if he wants to climb the ladder in NXT. We then see Bobby Roode arriving to the arena just moments ago. Roode says New York City is his kind of town, but Brooklyn is not. He calls Brooklyn a dump and says the crowd will experience a night where Bobby Roode takes NXT to the next level and makes it glorious. Back to the panel, and Ranallo says the signing of Roode to NXT was one of the biggest signings ever and he agrees that Roode will take NXT to the next level. Lita says Roode is saying he will make NXT, but in reality NXT will make Roode by showcasing what he is able to do. Ranallo picks Roode to win, while Lita picks Andrade Almas.

The talk switches to the debuting Ember Moon, who will take on Billie Kay tonight. We go backstage and Billie says NXT TakeOver has been the place where newcomers debut and make a statement. Billie says Ember Moon’s statement will be, “I am a loser.” She says Billie Kay will be the only name the people remember and that she is the next NXT Women’s Champion. Lita says she thinks Billie Kay could be in a line of women, but she needs to focus on Ember Moon tonight. Lita brings up Ember’s time in ROH and Shimmer. Ranallo says Ember is mysterious, but she is a force to be reckoned with. Ranallo says he likes Billie exuding confidence. Ranallo and Lita agree that a win for either would be a great statement, and Ranallo says he feels a bad moon rising for Billie Kay.

We rejoin Charly Caruso, who is now at ringside. She plugs the WWE Network and brings up the NXT Tag Team Championship Match between the champions, The Revival, and their challengers, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa. We take a look at the video hype package of the feud between the two teams, as well as the match tonight. We rejoin the panel, and Ranallo says the match between Gargano and Ciampa on the Cruiserweight Classic will do nothing but help them tonight. Lita says they have done nothing but skyrocket since they teamed up, and we could very well see new tag team champions tonight. Ranallo picks Gargano and Ciampa to win, as does Lita.

The panel switches gears to tonight’s main event for the NXT Championship between the champion, Samoa Joe, and his challenger, Shinsuke Nakamura. We see the video hype package for the feud and tonight’s match. Ranallo says Nakamura’s method to his madness is his biggest asset. Lita says everyone cannot wait to see this match and it has become such a personal issue and Shinsuke has gotten under Joe’s skin. Lita says Joe always starts out with respect, but throws it away quickly. Ranallo says they will earn each other’s respect tonight. Ranallo and Lita both pick Shinsuke to get the win as the preshow comes to a close.

NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II:

We see the opening hype video for tonight’s show, which features part of Triple H’s speech and various highlights from the first NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn in 2015. The video then transitions into focusing on tonight’s feuds and matches. The video features tonight’s competitors telling where they were at this time one year ago and then talk about what it means to compete tonight.

We go live into the Barclays Center and join Corey Graves and Tom Phillips, who welcome us to the show.
