8/17/16 WWE Cruiserweight Classic Coverage: Second Round Continues

This week’s Cruiserweight Classic opens with a review of last week’s episode, which saw Gran Metalik defeat Tajiri and Kota Ibushi defeat Cedric Alexander to move into the quarterfinals. We see that Akira Tozawa vs. Jack Gallagher, Noam Dar vs. Hoho Lun, and Brian Kendrick vs. Tony Nese will take place tonight. We see the opening video for the Cruiserweight Classic, and then we go into the arena where Mauro Ranallo and Daniel Bryan welcome us to the show. We take a look at the first two competitors tonight, Jack Gallagher and Akira Tozawa.

Match #1: Second Round Tournament Match – Akira Tozawa vs. Jack Gallagher
They tie up and Tozawa goes behind and takes Gallagher down. Tozawa applies a waist-lock, but Gallagher gets free. Tozawa comes back and takes Gallagher down again and works over his leg. Gallagher gets free again and applies an Indian death lock down on the mat. Tozawa crawls around the ring and Gallagher lets go of the hold. Gallagher applies a wrist-lock, but Tozawa counters with a side-headlock and takes Gallagher down. Gallagher gets free of the hold and trips Tozawa down to the mat. Gallagher wraps Tozawa up and Tozawa can’t get free. Gallagher lines up and delivers a stiff kick to Tozawa’s backside. Tozawa gets to his feet and delivers a few elbow shots, but Gallagher counters with a European uppercut. Gallagher runs the ropes, but Tozawa takes him down with a leg lariat. Tozawa goes for a cover, but Gallagher kicks out at two. Tozawa delivers a snap-mare and applies a rear chin-lock. Tozawa slams Gallagher down and connects with a senton. Tozawa goes for the cover, but Gallagher kicks out at two. Tozawa chops Gallagher and Gallagher comes back with forearm shivers. Tozawa delivers one big shot that sends Gallagher to the mat. Tozawa sends Gallagher into the corner, but Gallagher moves and sends Tozawa down to the mat. Gallagher drags Tozawa to the middle of the ring and kicks him and stretches out his hamstring. Gallagher drops down on Tozawa’s leg and works over his knee now. Tozawa drags his way to the ropes and Gallagher breaks the hold. Gallagher pulls Tozawa away from the ropes and goes for the submission again, but Tozawa kicks him away. Gallagher runs back and takes out Tozawa’s knee again. Gallagher ties up Tozawa and stomps down on the back of his knees. Gallagher applies a compression lock and works over Tozawa’s knee again, but Tozawa gets to the ropes. Gallagher goes after Tozawa again, but Tozawa counters with some elbow shots. Tozawa goes behind Gallagher, but Gallagher counters and sends him to the corner. Tozawa runs out of the corner and kicks him in the face. Tozawa goes for the cover, but Gallagher kicks out at two. Tozawa connects with a forearm in the corner, but Gallagher comes out of hit and applies heel hook in the middle of the ring. Tozawa makes it to the ropes to force the break. Gallagher sends Tozawa across the ring, but Tozawa collapses in the ring. Tozawa fights back to his feet, but Gallagher goes after him again and delivers a headbutt. Gallagher goes for the cover, but Tozawa kicks out again. Tozawa grabs Gallagher and deliver a snap German suplex and then goes for the bridged German suplex, but Gallagher tries to reverse it. Tozawa overpowers him and delivers the bridge German and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Akira Tozawa.
After the match, we see that Tozawa will meet Gran Metalik in the quarterfinals.

We are reminded that Brian Kendrick will meet Tony Nese in tonight’s main event and that Noam Dar will take on Hoho Lun next.

We join Corey Graves in the Control Center and then we take a look at the next two competitors, Hoho Lun and Noam Dar.

Match #2: Second Round Tournament Match – Hoho Lun vs. Noam Dar
They tie up and Dar applies a side-headlock. Lun sends Dar off the ropes, but Dar drops him with a shoulder block. Lun comes back with a spinning heel kick and goes for the cover, but Dar kicks out quickly. Dar applies a wrist-lock and takes Lun down to the mat. Lun gets up and punches Dar in the midsection and drops Dar with a dropkick. Lun goes for the cover, but Dar kicks out. Dar comes back and takes Lun down with a leg-whip. Lun gets on the apron, but Dar dropkicks his knee and Lun crashes to the floor. Lun gets back in the ring and Dar goes after his knee again. Dar delivers an uppercut and drops him with a back-suplex. Dar goes for the cover, but Lun kicks out. Dar works over Lun’s leg and knee and then applies a reverse Indian death lock. Dar goes for another submission, but Lun rolls him up. Dar kicks out, but Lun kicks him in the face. Lun goes for another cover, but Dar kicks out. Dar comes back and takes Lun to the corner and delivers a big kick. Dar works over Lun’s knee and delivers an elbow drop and a few stiff kicks to the back of Lun’s knee. Dar drops an elbow to Lun’s skull and then stands on his knee and forces it into the mat. Lun comes back with a couple of shots, but Dar kicks him down to the mat. Dar applies an Achilles lock and places his other foot on the back of Lun’s head. Lun fights out and gets to the ropes to break the hold. Dar charges at Lun in the corner, but Lun gets a boot up and Dar crashes to the mat. Lun gets on the turnbuckle and goes for a kick, but Dar blocks it. Lun dives off the ropes and connects with a missile dropkick. Lun delivers a knee lift in the corner and drops Dar with a forearm and a Michinoku Driver and goes for the cover, but Dar kicks out. Lun delivers the fisherman’s suplex and goes for the cover, but Dar kicks out at two. Lun kicks Dar in the back of the head and goes for the cover, but Dar kicks out at two. Dar connects with a back elbow and applies a knee bar submission and Lun quickly taps out.
Winner: Noam Dar.

We take a look at the next two competitors, Tony Nese and Brian Kendrick.

Match #3: Second Round Tournament Match – Brian Kendrick vs. Tony Nese
Nese kicks Kendrick in the head and sends him to the mat. Nese delivers a series of elbows and knees and sends Kendrick out to the floor. Nese grabs Kendrick and puts him back into the ring. Nese goes for a moonsault, but Kendrick moves and Nese lands on his feet. Kendrick rolls out of the ring and Nese goes out after him. Nese beats down Kendrick on the outside and delivers a superkick that sends Kendrick into the steel steps. Nese rolls Kendrick back into the ring and goes for the cover, but Kendrick kicks out at two. Nese decks Kendrick with a left hand and goes for another cover, but Kendrick kicks out again. Nese picks Kendrick up, but Kendrick rakes Nese face and gets free. Kendrick slams Nese into the corner and smothers his face into the turnbuckle. Nese’s hand gets caught in the turnbuckle and Kendrick takes advantage and beats down Nese in the corner. Nese finaly gets free, but Kendrick keeps the advantage. Kendrick sends Nese to the corner and charges, but Nese moves and ducks a clothesline and kicks Kendrick in the face again. Nese goes for the cover, but Kendrick kicks out at two. Nese connects with a leg-drop and goes for another cover, but Kendrick kicks out again. Nese grabs Kendrick, but Kendrick counters with an elbow and wraps Nese up in the ropes. Kendrick kicks Nese in the hamstring and then applies an arm-bar submission down on the mat. Nese gets free for a bit, but Kendrick goes back to another variation of the arm-bar. Nese gets free and sens Kendrick to the apron. Nese leg sweeps Kendrick and sends him to the floor. Nese launches over the top rope and takes Kendrick out with a corkscrew plancha. Back in the ring, Nese takes Kendrick down with a spinning heel kick. Nese grabs Kendrick and lifts him up, but Kendrick delivers a few knees. Nese keeps Kendrick up and delivers the Falcon Arrow. Nese goes for the cover, but Kendrick kicks out. Kendrick comes back with a boot to the face and charges, but Nese takes him down with a lariat. Nese goes for the cover, but Kendrick kicks out. Nese goes up top, but Kendrick cuts him off and takes him down to the mat. Kendrick goes for the cover, but Nese kicks out. Kendrick delivers a big kick and goes for another cover, but Nese kicks out again. Kendrick works over Nese’s arm again, but Nese coutners into a jack-knife cover and Kendrick kicks out. Nese delivers the Bronco Bomb in the corner and goes for the cover, but Kendrick kicks out again. Nese charges, but Kendrick catches him and applies the Bully Choke. Nese rolls over and pins Kendrick’s shoulders down, but Kendrick kicks out. Nese grabs Kendrick and delivers a pump handle slam and goes for the cover, but Kendrick kicks out at two. Nese delivers a series of right hands, but Kendrick fights back and they exchange right hands. Kendrick delivers a few headbutts and a big kick to the face. Kendrick takes Nese down with a leg lariat. Kendrick goes up top, but Nese cuts him of and delivers a series of kicks to Kendrick’s face. Kendrick falls and Nese goes for the 450 Splash, but Kendrick moves and locks in the Bully Choke and Nese taps out.
Winner: Brian Kendrick.
After the match, we see that Brian Kendrick will meet Kota Ibushi in the quarterfinals.

We join Corey Graves again and he informs us that Lince Dorado vs. Rich Swann, Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Drew Gulak, and Johnny Gargano vs. TJ Perkins will round out the second round on next week’s show as this week’s edition comes to the close.
