7/27/16 NXT Recap: Nakamura in Action; Kota Ibushi Main Events

This week’s NXT opens with the usual opening video and then we go into the NXT Arena at Full Sail University, where Corey Graves and Tom Phillips welcome us to the show. Shinsuke Nakamura’s music hits and the King of Strong Style makes his way to the ring.

Match #1: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Wesley Blake
Before the match begins, we see the official breakup of Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy as they go their separate ways after arguing about who carried the team.

They tie up and Blake applies a side-headlock. Nakamura sends him off the ropes and then goes over the top of Blake. Blake comes back and goes over the top of Nakamura and blows a kiss at Nakamura. Nakamura catches it, tosses it on the ground, and stomps on it. Blake charges, but Nakamura counters with a knee to the midsection and then a knee drop. Nakamura applies Good Vibrations in the corner a few times, but Blake comes back with a kick to the midsection. Blake takes Nakamura down with a clothesline and goes for the cover, but Nakamura kicks out. Blake goes up top and drop a knee and then goes for the cover, but Nakamura kicks out again. Blake drives his knee into Nakamura’s back and applies a rear chin-lock. Nakamura gets free, but Blake takes him down with a back elbow. Blake goes for the cover, but Nakamura kicks out. Blake put a boot to Nakamura’s face in the corner, but Nakamura gets free and drops Blake to the mat. Nakamura connects with a big right hand and a series of kicks. Nakamura drives his knee into Blake in the corner and then puts him on the top rope. Nakamura drives his knee into Blake’s midsection and then delivers the reverse exploder suplex. Nakamura connects with Kinshasa and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura.
After the match, NXT General Manager William Regal’s music hits. He comes to the stage and congratulates Nakamura on his win. He announced that Samoa Joe will defend the NXT Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura at NXT TakeOver: Back to Brooklyn on Saturday, August 20th.

We see that Of Mice and Men’s song “Relentless” will be the official theme song of NXT TakeOver: Back to Brooklyn.

Match #2: Billie Kay vs. Santana Garrett.
They tie up and Billie takes Santana down to the mat. They tie up again and Santana goes behind Billie, but Billie counters with a wrist-lock. Billie sends Santana off the ropes, but Santana comes back with a dropkick. Billie sends Santana into the corner and then drops her with a right hand. Billie goes for the cover, but Santana kicks out. Billie takes Santana to the corner and chokes her with a boot to the throat and then takes her down with a suplex. Billie goes for the cover, but Santana kicks out at two. Billie grabs Santana’s hair and then wrenches her neck. Santana fights out and backs Billie into the corner. Santana driver her shoulder into Billie’s midsection and then delivers a headbutt. Santana backs away and splashes Billie in the corner. Santana goes for a big boot, but Billie dodges it and connects with a big boot of her own and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Billie Kay.

We take a look back at WWE Battleground, where we see still shots of former NXT Women’s Champion, Bayley, making her main roster debut as Sasha Banks’ partner. We then go backstage and see Bayley in William Regal’s office. She says Regal has always had her back, and she wants her rematch against Asuka in Brooklyn. Regal says that’s a great idea and he will talk to Asuka and draw up the paperwork.

We see that Buddy Murphy will take on Kota Ibushi later tonight, but coming up next is TM-61 in action.

We see a short vignette for a soon-to-debut NXT star.

Match #3: TM-61 (Nick Miller and Shane Thorne) vs. Rob Ryzin and Adrian Nails
Thorne and Nails start the match and Thorne immediately takes Nails down. Miller tags in and connects with a standing moonsault and drops a fist on Nails face. Thorne tags in, but Nails takes him face-first into the corner. Ryzin tags in, but Thorne takes control of the match. Thorne slams Ryzin to the mat and Ryzin tags in Nails. Thorne drops Ryzin off the apron and tags in Miller. Miller and Thorne hit Nails with Thunder Valley and Miller gets the pin fall.
Winners: TM-61.
After the match, Ryzin and Nails get back into the ring and the four men shake hands.

We take a look back at Austin Aries attacking No Way Jose last month on NXT. We then see two weeks ago when No Way Jose got his revenge and attacked Aries after Aries’ match. We see that No Way Jose will be in action next.

We see a Hideo Itami return vignette. He will return next week.

Match #4: No Way Jose vs. Steve Cutler.
Cutler goes behind Jose, but Jose gets free and dances a bit. Jose applies a side-headlock, but Cutler reverses into a headlock of his own. Jose sends him off the ropes, but Cutler kicks him in the face. Jose snaps and drops Cutler with a few clotheslines and then a hip toss. Jose winds up and drops Cutler with the baseball swing clothesline and then he slams him down to the mat and gets the pin fall.
Winner: No Way Jose.
After the match, Jose grabs a mic. He calls out Austin Aries. He says all he tried to do was bring the good vibe to Aries that he has brought to NXT. He says Aries mistook him for something that he is not. Jose says that when he showed Aries what he could do, the Greatest Man That Ever Lived turned into the Biggest Coward in NXT. Jose says the next time they meet, Aries won’t be able to run away.

We see Kota Ibushi warming up backstage. He will go one-on-one with Buddy Murphy next.

Match #5: Buddy Murphy vs. Kota Ibushi
Murphy applies a headlock and takes Ibuhi down with a couple shoulder tackles. Murphy comes off the ropes again, but Ibushi counters with a dropkick. Ibushi connects with a standing moonsault and goes for the cover, but Murphy kicks out at two. Murphy rolls to the outside and Ibushi follows, but Murphy takes him down on the outside. Murphy rolls Ibushi back into the ring and goes for the cover, but Ibushi kicks out. Murphy applies a headlock down on the mat, but Ibushi fights back. Murphy keeps the headlock applied and drops Ibushi to the mat again. Ibushi fights up again and backs Murphy into the corner, but doesn’t break the hold. He backs Murphy into the corner again, but Murphy keeps the hold on. Ibushi finally breaks the hold, but Murphy takes him down with a dropkick. Murphy connects with running knees and goes for the cover, but Ibushi kicks out. Murphy shoves Ibushi in the face and backs away, but Ibushi catches his leg and unleashes on Murphy with quick kicks. Ibushi connects with a super kick and then hits the German suplex. Ibushi goes for the cover, but Murphy kicks out at two. Ibushi rolls Murphy over and goes up top. He goes for a moonsault, but Murphy moves and then slams Ibushi into the corner. Murphy goes for the cover, but Ibushi kicks out at two. Murphy puts Ibushi up top and delivers a chop. Murphy climbs up as well and goes for a superplex, but Ibushi fights out of it. Ibushi delivers a sit-out power bomb and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Kota Ibushi.

We go backstage and see Samoa Joe. He is asked his reaction of William Regal’s announcement from earlier that he will be defending his title against Shinsuke Nakamuta at NXT TakeOver: Back to Brooklyn. Joe looks shocked at the news and says the level of disrespect he is shown is ridiculous. He says he will fix it right now and heads to the ring.

We see that Bobby Roode will arrive to NXT next week.

Samoa Joe’s music hits and the NXT Champion makes his way to the ring. He says he was just informs that he is supposedly defending his title against Shinsuke Nakamura at NXT TakeOver: Back to Brooklyn. He says that is not happenning because Shinsuke Nakamura is not deserving. William Regal’s music hits and he makes his way to the state. Regal says he has heard enough from Joe. He says Joe will fight who he says he will fight. Joe says he had to jump through a lot of hoops to finally get the NXT Championship, and Nakamura hasn’t had to do that. Joe says they will walk out of here to Regal’s office and pick out a new opponent who he approves of. Regal says if Joe refuses to fight, he will be stripped of the title and Regal will find someone else to face Nakamura at TakeOver. Joe says he will hand Regal nothing and the match is on, but this is the biggest mistake that Regal has ever made. Joe says he decimated Finn Balor and he will do the same to Shinsuke Nakamura whenever he sees him. Nakmaura’s music hits and he makes his way to the stage. Nakamura and Joe stare each other down as this week’s NXT comes to a close.
