NXT Report – 5/18/16

This week’s NXT opens up with highlights of the match between Bayley and Nia Jax from TakeOver: London back in December and we are reminded that they will meet again tonight. We go into Full Sail University, and Tom Phillips and Corey Graves welcome us to the show.

Match #1: Blake and Murphy vs. Austin Aries and Shinsuke Nakamura
Aries and Blake start the match for their teams. Murphy immediately tags in and gets drop kicked by Aries. Aries goes for the cover, but Murphy kicks out at two. Aries slams Murphy into Nakamura’s boot, and Nakamura tags in. Nakamura takes Murphy to the corner and plants his boot in Murphy’s face. Nakamura takes Murphy down to the mat and catapults him into Aries, who delivers an elbow. Aries comes into the ring and goes for the cover, but Murphy kicks out at two. Murphy gets back to his feet and trips Aries up and then takes him to the corner. Murphy takes Aries down and applies a headlock, but Aries gets free and kicks Murphy in the face. Aries tags in Nakamura, who drops Murphy with a series of kicks. Nakamura goes after Blake in the corner, but Blake backs away. Nakamura hits the knee in the corner and then drops him with the exploder suplex. Nakamura hits Murphy with the Kinshasa and gets the pin fall.
Winners: Austin Aries and Shinsuke Nakamura.
After the match, Alexa Bliss looks pissed off at Blake and Murphy and walks to the back. Blake follows suit and turns on Murphy and walks to the back.

We go backstage and see Bayley. Bayley says Nia Jax likes to use her size to put terror and fear into her opponents, and says that won’t work on Bayley tonight. Bayley says the same thing that happened in London will happen tonight, and once Niz is out of the way she will focus on becoming the NXT Women’s Champion again.

Graves informs us that we will get an update on the NXT Championship Match between Samoa Joe and Finn Balor that will take place at the next NXT TakeOver event on June 8th as we head to a break.

Returning from the break, we take a look at a video package that covers the current NXT Women’s Champion, Asuka.

We go backstage and see No Way Jose. Jose says he has a pretty good smile and likes to show it off. He says a lot of people underestimate him and he has high energy and wants to bring it all to NXT. He says he is here to have a good time, but also here to fight.

We see Nia Jax walking backstage in preparation for her match against Bayley as we head to a break.

We see Carmella in a pre-recorded interview. She says she is proud of Enzo and Cass for all they’re doing on Raw and Smackdown, but her dreams still include the NXT Women’s Championship.

Match #2: Carmella vs. Peyton Royce
Carmella and Peyton tie up and Carmella takes Peyton down to the mat. Carmella picks Peyton up and slams her back down and goes for the cover, but Peyton kicks out at two. Peyton comes back and takes control of the match and delivers a series of suplexes to Carmella. Peyton goes for the cover, but Carmella kicks out at two. Carmella fights back with elbow shots and Peyton goes for a big kick. Carmella ducks under and takes down Peyton with a couple Thezs Presses and some right hands. Carmella sends Peyton down to the mat with a big kick and then the Bronco Buster in the corner. Carmella slams Peyton face-first and then locks in the inverted triangle submission and Peyton taps out.
Winner: Carmella.

We take a look back at what happened between Samoa Joe and Finn Balor at an NXT house show this past Saturday night. The brawled on the outside and in the ring until the locker room emptied to separate them until Finn Balor dove over the top rope to take Joe and half the locker room out. We take a look back to William Regal’s meeting with Samoa Joe and Finn Balor yesterday afternoon. Regal announces that for the first time in NXT history, a steel cage match will take place when Joe puts his title on the line against Balor.

We are reminded once again of tonight’s main event, which is Bayley vs. Nia Jax, as we head to a break.

Back from the break, we see Alexa Bliss arguing with Blake and Murphy. She says she has given them opportunity after opportunity, and all they do is lose, so she is done with them and walks away.

Match #3: Tomasso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano vs. Danny Burch and Ron Ryzin
Gargano and Ryzin start the match for their teams. They tie up and Ryzin works over Gargano’s arm. Gargano comes back and takes Ryzin down to the mat and works over his arm. Ryzin gets back to his feet, but Gargano sends him off the ropes. Gargano takes Ryzin down with a shoulder block and then a series of arm-drags. Gargano keeps Ryzin on the mat and works over his arm again. Ryzin gets to his feet and knees Gargano in the midsection. Danny Burch tags in, but Gargano takes control of the match back. Ciampa tags in and he and Gargano double-team Burch. Ciampa slams Burch into the turnbuckle, but Burch turns the tide and delivers an uppercut and a chop. Burch goes for a suplex, but Ciampa counters and delivers a suplex of his own. Ciamps gets Burch in a headlock and then delivers a big boot. Ciamps goes after Ryzin, but Burch drops Ciampa with a clothesline. Burch goes for the cover, but Ciampa kicks out at one. Burch backs Ciampa into the corner and Ryzin tags in. Ryzin and Burch try to double-team Ciampa, but he counters with knees and boots and tags in Gargano. Gargano kicks Ryzin in the face and then charges in the corner. Gargano kicks Burch in the face and then takes Ryzin down again. Ciampa tags back in and he and Gargano double-team Ryzin again. Gargano tags in and he and Ciampa his Ryzin with double knees and Gargano gets the pin fall.
Winners: Tomasso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano.

We go to William Regal’s office, and he congratulates Big Cass, Enzo Amore, and The Vaudevillains on their impacts that they have made on Raw and Smackdown. He announces that American Alpha will defend their NXT Tag Team Championship against The Revival at NXT TakeOver on June 8th.

We see Bayley warming up backstage. Her match with Nia Jax is next.

Match #4: Bayley vs. Nia Jax
Bayley and Nia tie up and Nia slams her down to the mat. Bayley goes behind Nia, but Nia powers her down to the mat again. Bayley goes after Nia’s arm and begins to work it over, but Nia shoves her away. Nia goes for a couple big clotheslines, but Bayley ducks under and jumps on Nia’s back. Bayley locks in the sleeper, but Nia gets free and slams Bayley to the mat. Bayley comes back with a side headlock, but Nia powers out and slams Bayley down to the mat. Nia goes for the cover, but Bayley kicks out at two. Nia drives Bayley into the corner, but Bayley comes back with a series of kicks. Nia drives her shoulder into Bayley’s midsection and sends Bayley down to the mat. Nia picks Bayley up and slams her down again. Nia takes Bayley to the ropes and chokes her over the second rope. Nia drives Bayley into the corner again and then tosses her into the other corner and charges. Bayley jumps over Nia, but Nia grabs her and slams her to the mat. Nia goes for the cover, but Bayley kicks out at two. Nia picks Bayley up, but Bayey fights out and takes Nia to the corner. Bayley slams Nia’s head into the turnbuckle a few times, but Nia comes back and slams Bayley down again as we head to a break.
Back from the break, and Nia has Bayley in a chin lock down on the mat. Bayley fights to her feet, but Nia takes her down with a shoulder-breaker. Nia goes for the cover, but Bayley kicks out at two. Nia slams Bayley into the corner again and then works over Bayley’s arm. Nia stands on Bayley’s hand and then stomps down on her arm. Bayley fights back with some elbows, but Nia comes right back and slams Bayley down to the mat. Nia kicks Bayley in the back and then locks in a submission in the middle of the ring. Nia clotheslines Bayley down to the mat and goes for the cover, but Bayley kicks out at two. Nia drives Bayley into the corner again and applies the submission in the center of the ring again. Nia turns it into a bear-hug, but Bayley fights out of it. Bayey goes for a sunset flip, but Nia stays on her feet. Bayley sends Nia into the corner and drives her shoulder into Nia’s midsection. Bayley goes after Nia’s legs and Bayley dropkicks her to the mat. Bayley sends Nia to the outside and goes for a baseball slide, but Nia catches her. Bayley takes Nia down on the outside with an enzuigiri. Back in the ring, Bayley takes Nia down with a cross-body and goes for the cover, but Nia kicks out at two. Bayley goes for the Bayley-to-Belly, but Nia overpowers and drops her with a spine-buster. Nia goes for the cover, but Bayley kicks out at two. Nia charges at Bayley in the corner, but Bayley moves. Bayley locks in the guillotine and Nia drops to a knee. Nia gets back to her feet and forces the break. Bayley comes back and drops Nia with a DDT and goes for the cover, but Nia kicks out at two. Bayley lands awkwardly on her knee, but Nia splashes her in the corner and takes her down to the mat. Nia drags Bayley to the middle of the ring and delivers two leg drops and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Nia Jax.
After the match, we see highlights from the match. Nia Jax mouths with the fans as the medical staff and referees check on Bayley as NXT comes to a close.
