NXT Coverage – 4/6/16

NXT opens with a video package highlighting NXT TakeOver: Dallas from this past Friday night. We then see the usual opening video, and we join Corey Graves and Tom Phillips in Dallas, Texas, where our matches tonight took place. Phillips and Graves toss it to Cathy Kelley, who is in the control center at WWE Headquarters. We see highlights of Apollo Crews’ debut on Monday Night Raw two days ago and then we see highlights of the NXT Tag Team Championship Match from TakeOver: Dallas which saw American Alpha defeat The Revival to win the titles.

We see an interview with American Alpha after their match at TakeOver and Jordan said it took a lot of hard work to get where they are and Gable adds that there was no doubt that they had to win and there is no better place to do it than WrestleMania Weekend.

Cathy Kelley tells us that we will also take a look back at other matches from NXT TakeOver as the show progresses tonight.

We’re back and we see highlights of the NXT Women’s Championship Match from TakeOver: Dallas, which saw Asuka beat Bayley to become the new champion. In an interview, Bayley congratulates Asuka and says it is difficult to wrap her mind around what happened. Bayley says Asuka is on another level and that she let everybody down.

We see highlights from the Austin Aries/Baron Corbin match from TakeOver, and then an interview with Aries. He said he came to NXT to prove himself, and he proved himself to Baron Corbin. Aries says people better get used to seeing him, because he’s here to stay. We also see stillshots of Baron Corbin winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania.

We see highlights of the NXT Championship Match from TakeOver: Dallas, which saw Finn Balor retain the title against Samoa Joe. In an interview, Balor said Joe is as tough as they come and Joe keeps on coming. Balor said that he did not win, but merely survived the battle with Joe. Someone tries to get some words with Joe, but Joe simply turns and walks away.

We see footage from last week when Elias Sampson came out after Apollo Crews’ match and “sang” a song for Crews. We see Elias Sampson walking backstage, and he will be in action next.

We see a vignette for No Way Jose.

Match #1: Elias Sampson vs. Apollo Crews.
The men tie up and Sampson takes Crews down. Crews gets up immediately and backs Sampson into the corner. Sampson backs into the corner and kisses his guitar. They tie up again and Sampson takes Crews down again. Crews gets up and goes after Sampson again, but Sampson backs into the corner again. Sampson gets Crews in a headlock, and then takes him down to the mat. Crews kicks up and drops Sampson with a dropkick. Crews takes Sampson down with an arm drag and then works over Sampson’s shoulder. Sampson gets to his feet and gets on the ring apron, but Crews brings him back into the ring. Sampson pokes Crews in the eye, but Crews comes back and takes Sampson down with another arm drag. Crews charges Sampson in the corner, but Sampson sends Crews to the apron. Crews tries to jump back into the ring, but Sampson sweeps Crews’ legs and Crews crashes down into the ring.

Back from a break and Sampson is in control of the match. He backs Crews into the corner and connects with some forearm shots. Sampson sends Crews off the ropes and drops him with a clothesline. Down on the mat, Sampson locks in a headlock. Crews gets to his feet, but Sampson backs him into the corner. Sampson kicks Crews away from him out of the corner and goes for the cover, but Crews kicks out at two. Down on the mat, Sampson locks Crews in a chin lock. Crews gets to his feet and connects with a right hand. Crews drops Sampson with some short clotheslines and then splashes him in the corner. Crews takes Sampson down and then kicks him in the side of the head. Crews goes for the cover, but Sampson kicks out at two. Sampson leaves the ring, but Crews goes out after him. Sampson tries to send Crews into the ring apron, but Crews jumps up and then takes Sampson down with a moonsault. Back in the ring, Crews press slams Sampson down to the mat and goes for the standing moonsault, but Sampson gets his feet up and blocks Crews.

Crews gets to his feet and sends Sampson off the ropes, but Sampton flips over and sunset flips Crews for a two count. Sampson kicks Crews in the face and goes for the cover, but Crews kicks out at two. Crews comes back and kicks Sampson in the face and then drops him with the toss power bomb and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Apollo Crews.

We see highlights from the match at TakeOver: Dallas between Sami Zayn and Shinsuke Nakamura, which was won by Nakamura. After the match, we see an interview with Sami Zayn. He says it was an incredible match and Nakamura gave him the fight of his life and it’s kind of hard putting it into words. We then see the Nakamura interview, and his spokesman speaks for him. He said “Thank you,” and then Shinsuke looks into the camera as says, “Strong Style has arrived.”

We see that Shinsuke Nakamura will be in action next week as this week’s NXT comes to a close.
