– As noted, John Cena underwent successful shoulder surgery on Thursday in Birmingham, Alabama. WWE has released more details and noted that the operation was done by Dr. Jeffrey Dugas at the Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center. The procedure took about one hour. Dugas told the WWE website:

“He had a complete tear of a small portion of the rear rotator cuff tendon, the infraspinatus — toward the top-back of his shoulder — which I repaired. Also, there was a large piece of loose tissue in his shoulder that needed to be removed.”

Dugas also revealed that they addressed some deterioration that had occurred in Cena’s AC joint. Regarding recovery, Cena is set to work on his range of motion before he starts putting weight on the shoulder. They did not give a timetable for his return but as noted, he could be out for 6 months or longer and is expected to miss WrestleMania 32. Dugas commented:

“The first hurdle is getting the cuts to heal and getting cartilage to form over the defect. After that, we’ll get back to function.”
