1999 – WWF Smackdown began airing on UPN

2002 – on Raw, the WWE Undisputed Title is separated into the WWE & World Heavyweight Titles once more. The WWE Title would stay with Brock Lesnar on Smackdown, while the World Heavyweight Title would remain vacant on Raw for now

2008 – John Cena underwent neck surgery in Pittsburgh, & shocked the WWE crew taping TV there by coming right to the Smackdown/ECW taping after surgery to visit

2008 – B. Brian Blair defeated his primary opponent with approximately 64% of the votes  in a primary election for County Commissioner in Hillsborough County in Tampa, FL

2011 – TNA Knockout Cookie (Becky Bayless) was released by the company


In 1991, WWF Summerslam was held at Madison Square Garden, in New York City, New York. With an attendance of 20,000. It featured the ‘wedding’ of Randy Savage & Miss Elizabeth (in reality they had already been married around 7 years). The event also marked the final appearances of Sgt Slaughter’s Iraqi sympathiser gimmick:

– The Natural Disasters (Typhoon & Earthquake) (with Jimmy Hart) defeated The Bushwhackers (Butch & Luke) (with Andre The Giant)
– Virgil defeated Ted DiBiase Sr. (with Sensational Sherri) to win the Million Dollar Title
– The Big Boss Man defeated The Mountie (with Jimmy Hart) in a Jailhouse Match
– The Legion Of Doom (Hawk & Animal) defeated The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Sags) (with Jimmy Hart) in a Street Fight to win the WWF Tag Team Titles
– Irwin R. Schyster defeated Greg Valentine
– Hulk Hogan & The Ultimate Warrior defeated Sgt Slaughter, Colonel Mustafa & General Adnan in a Handicap Match with Sid Justice as special guest referee

In 2007, WWE Summerslam was held at the Continental Airlines Arena, in East Rutherford, New Jersey. With an attendance of 17,441:

– Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch defeated Brian Kendrick & Paul London
– Kane defeated Finlay
– Umaga defeated Carlito & Mr. Kennedy in a Triple Threat Match to retain the WWE Intercontinental Title
– Rey Mysterio Jr. defeated Chavo Guerrero Jr.
– Beth Phoenix defeated Torrie Wilson, Victoria, Michelle McCool, Maria, Melina, Kelly Kelly, Jillian Hall, Kristal Marshall, Brooke Adams, & Layla in a Interpromotional Battle Royal
– John Morrison defeated CM Punk to retain the ECW Title
– Triple H defeated King Booker (with Queen Sharmell)
– Batista defeated The Great Khali (with Ranjin Singh) via DQ (Khali retains the World Heavyweight Title)
– John Cena defeated Randy Orton to retain the WWE Title

Also in 2007, AJPW Pro Wrestling Love in Ryogoku Vol. 3 was held in Tokyo, Japan:

– Satoshi Kojima & Taru defeated Toshiaki Kawada& Taiyo Kea to win the AJPW Tag Team Titles
– Kensuke Sasaki defeated Minoru Suzuki to win the AJPW Triple Crown Title

Title Changes

1975 – The Blackjacks (Lanza & Mulligan) defeated Dominic DeNucci & Pat Barrett to win the WWWF Tag Team Titles

1979 – Harley Race defeated Dusty Rhodes to win the NWA World Title in Orlando, Florida

1991 – The Dragon Master defeated Jerry Lawler to win the USWA Unified World Heavyweight Title

1999 – The Dudley Boyz (Buh Buh Ray & D-Von) defeated Spike Dudley & Balls Mahoney to win the ECW Tag Team Titles, but would lose them later in the night to Tommy Dreamer & Raven

2000 – The Full Blooded Italians (Tony Mamaluke & Little Guido) defeated Yoshihiro Tajiri & Mikey Whipwreck to win the ECW Tag Team Titles

2002 – on Raw, Rob Van Dam defeated Tommy Dreamer to unify the WWE Intercontinental and Hardcore Titles. The Hardcore Title is discontinued

In Memoriam

In 2011, Donna Christanello, who was a top flight performer in The Fabulous Moolah’s troupe of female pro wrestlers and worked for WWF as well as number of other promotions, passed away. Christanello was found at home in Pittsburgh, PA, & it’s believed that the cause of death was a heart attack. She was 69 years old
