In Memoriam

On this day in 1992, the wrestling world lost Stan Frazier, best known for his portrayal of Uncle Elmer in the WWF. He was 54. Frazier began his career in his native Mississippi in the early 1960′s, before being ‘discovered’ by Jerry Jarrett and Jerry Lawler, who brought him to NWA Mid-America. By 1978, he was a 3-time tag team champion in the area, winning one NWA Mid-America Tag Team Title with Dennis Hall, followed by two AWA Southern Tag Team Titles with Terry Sawyer and Jerry Lawler. He also found brief success in Georgia, holding the NWA National Tag Team Titles with Ted DiBiase for 5 days in 1981. In the mid 80′s, he joined the WWF as Uncle Elmer of ‘The Hillbillies’ stable. The highlights of his WWF run were a match at WrestleMania 2 (losing to Adrian Adonis), & a legitimate in-ring wedding to Joyce Staszko on an episode of Saturday Night’s Main Event. He quietly left the WWF in 1986 & returned to Tennessee, where he won a further two AWA Southern Tag Team Titles as well as 2 CWA Super Heavyweight Titles. With his health failing, he retired in 1990 & eventually passed of kidney failure

On this day 1994, George “Crybaby” Cannon died of cancer at the age 62

On this day in 2009, Lucha mini performers La Parkita & El Espectrito Jr. were found dead in a hotel in Mexico City.  Local authorities believe that two prostitutes had returned to the hotel with the wrestlers & drugged their drinks in order to rob them.  The belief is that due to their small size, the drugs ended up killing them.  The 2 minis, who were brothers, were 35.  The deaths were actually picked up on gossip website, of all places
