2005 Then-independent wrestler Matt Striker made headlines nationally when it is revealed that he had run afoul of the New York State Board of Education for allegedly calling in sick from his teaching duties to work dates in Japan.  Striker would later resign his job.  The controversy led to WWE hiring him a few weeks later

2006 Andrew “Test” Martin was brought back to WWE as a member of the ECW brand

2009 Sheamus, Yoshi Tatsu, Abraham Washington, & Tyler Reks debuted on the main WWE roster for ECW

2010 Terry Funk was inducted into the GERWECK.NET Hall of Fame, securing 93% of the reader votes

2011 Jake Roberts was inducted into the GERWECK.NET Hall of Fame, securing 80% of the reader votes

2013 – Killer Kowalski is inducted into the GERWECK.NET Hall of Fame, securing 87% of the reader votes

2014 – The Steiner Brother (Rick & Scott) are inducted into the GERWECK.NET Hall of Fame, securing 85% of the reader votes

2014 – Chris Jericho returned to the WWE live on Monday Night Raw for the 1st time in over a year


In 1995, AAA TripleMania III-C was held in Madero, Mexico:

– El Hijo Del Santo, Octagon & Rey Misterio Jr. defeated Fuerza Guerrera, Blue Panther, & Psicosis
– Cien Caras, Mascara Ano 2000, Fishman & Jerry Estrada defeated Konnan, Perro Aguayo, Latin Lover, & Mascara Sagrada
– Super Calo defeated Winners in a Mask vs Mask Match

Title Changes

1961 – Buddy Rogers defeated Pat O’Connor to win the NWA World Title

1967 – Tony Parisi gives up his half of the WWWF United States Tag Team Titles to Arnold Skaaland. Skaaland & Spiros Arion are recognized as champions from this date

1985 – Hercules Hernandez defeats Hector Guerrero to win the Florida State Heavyweight Title in Orlando.  The title would be vacated less than a month later when Hernandez was fired for having a locker room fight with Wahoo McDaniel

1989 – Jeff Jarrett & Matt Borne defeated The Stud Stable (Robert Fuller & Brian Lee) to win the WCCW World Tag Team Titles

1995 – Raven & Stevie Richards defeated The Public Enemy (Rocco Rock & Johnny Grunge) to win the ECW Tag Team Titles

1995 – The Headhunters (A & B) defeated Los Cowboys (Silver King & El Texano) to win the CMLL Tag Team Titles

1996 – Masanobu Fuchi defeated Yoshinari Ogawa to win the AJPW Junior Heavyweight Title

2002 – The WWE Hardcore Title’s 24/7 Rule sees the belt pass from Bradshaw to Raven, to Crash Holly, to Steven Richards, & back to Bradshaw

2003 – on Raw, Gail Kim wins a Battle Royal to win the WWE Women’s Title

2008 – on Raw, CM Punk cashes in his Money In The Bank & defeated Edge to win the World Heavyweight Title

2014 – on Raw, AJ Lee defeated Paige to win the WWE Diva’s Title in Hartford, Connecticut


Happy birthday to WWE Hall of Famer Terry Funk (70), 2-time WWE Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes (29), & one-time WWE Divas Champion Alicia Fox (28)

Also, today would have been the birthday of former World Heavyweight Champion Ed ‘Strangler’ Lewis (123)

In Memoriam

In 2010, Toni Adams Donahoo has passed away at the way-too-young age of 45 after a lengthy illness.  Toni was an integral figure in the World Class program where Chris Adams, her husband at the time, was feuding with Steve Austin and his wife Jeanne, who was Adams’ 1st wife, & later worked as Lady Blossom in WCW, as well as gave Austin the idea for the Stone Cold nickname.  In a lot of ways, it was a program that was before its time as the women were a focal point & real life issues were a selling point of the storyline
