World Wrestling Entertainment has announced the release of former 1-Time WWE Tag-Team Champion Matthew ‘Evan Bourne’ Korklan. The 31-year-old St. Louis Missouri native had spent the last 7-years working for the WWE after having been signed in the fall of 2007. Korklan was first assigned to Ohio Valley Wrestling where he became a former 1-Time OVW Champion before being re-assigned to Florida Championship Wrestling. He debuted as Evan Bourne on the ECW Brand in June of 2008 and saw his popularity surge in 2010 while working on Raw. After returning from a shoulder injury in October of 2010 he formed a tag-team with fellow high flyer Kofi Kingston as Air Boom. The duo’s title reign was interrupted after Korklan had 2-separate wellness policy violations in a span of 2-months. While serving his second suspension he was involved in a serious car accident and suffered a severely broken foot. Korklan had yet to return from the sidelines prior to the announcement of his release back on June 12th along with multiple other performers.

Matthew Korklan is a 14-year veteran of the squared circle who first debuted in the year 2000 after having been trained by Gateway Championship Wrestling. Korklan worked in GCW under his last name and also under the name Matt until 2003. He then put the two names together becoming Matt Sydal and became a regular performer over the next 4-years with IWA Mid-South and Ring Of Honor Wrestling. During this time Korklan competed against the likes of A.J. Styles, C.M. Punk, Chris Sabin, Tyler Black, Kevin Steen and developed a long rivalry against wrestler Delirious. He also worked regularly for NWA Mid-West and was used by TNA Wrestling in both 2003 and 2004 mostly as an enhancement talent. From 2006-2007 Korklan also toured Japan where he worked for Dragon Gate and was involved in the short-lived Wrestling Society X promotion as well. While competing on the independents he attended the University Of Missouri where he graduated with a bachelors degree in Marketing.
