Tomorrow’s Payback seems to lack the hype that Extreme Rules had, however the potential is there for this to be one heck of a show.
Mask vs. Hair Kickoff Pre-show Match
El Torito vs. Hornswoggle
At the last pay-per-view this match was far more entertaining than I expected. It’s heavy on the comedy, but what should one expect from a midget dressed as a bull and another a reformed leprechaun? As I can’t imagine El Torito will lose his mask (especially after losing his tail!) I see him getting the win over Hornswoggle and the 3MB buddy having a shaved head before night’s end.
Rusev vs. Big E
This match interests me because I think these two could have a nice series of matches this summer. I think it will end in some type of disqualification or count-out with neither man gaining the clear upper hand. This one will include this summer sometime with some type of gimmick match, perhaps a “Russian strap match?”
WWE United States Title Match
Cesaro vs. Sheamus
This one could potentially go either way, though my money is on Cesaro taking the title. I’m not sure either guy needs the belt to be elevated, but if Sheamus-turn rumors are true, this might be the best time to get the title off of him. Cesaro gets the win after taking Sheamus for a spin.
WWE Intercontinental Title Match
Rob Van Dam vs. Bad News Barrett
I’ve got some bad news for Rob Van Dam fans… Bad News Barrett retains the gold. RVD will no doubt look great in the match, and lose after some type of shady business, but Barrett is too hot to take his gold away now. RVD certainly doesn’t need the belt, but I do him moving on to a more prominent summer program after tonight.
WWE Divas Title Match
Alicia Fox vs. Paige
Going out on a limb here and picking Alicia Fox. I don’t think Paige resonates with the fans yet. Coming in and winning a title at your first match can be a bad thing. I think Alicia grabs the victory tonight and we get a few weeks of Paige building momentum to regain it at the next pay-per-view. With her recent antics, I think Alicia can be an entertaining short-term champ and help give us a reason to care about a rematch with Paige regaining.
No Holds Barred Elimination Match
The Shield vs. Evolution
The Shield will go down, however if done correctly, Roman Reigns will take one step closer to being the breakout star of 2014. I predict Dean Ambore and Seth Rollins will be eliminated early on leaving it a 3-on-1 advantage for Evolution. Reigns will be able to extract some revenge and take out Randy Orton and Batista before Triple H proves to be too much for Reigns. He’ll look like a hero nonetheless, and set himself up for a great singles match with the boss down the line. This match will have plenty of awesome moments that will make both factions look stronger.
Last Man Standing Match
Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena
This should be a Last Man Standing War as I just don’t see a lot of wrestling happening during this match. John Cena is going to come out the victor but it won’t be an easy road, and likely gives Cena-haters another reason to boo him as he overcomes huge adversity during the match. No doubt the entire Wyatt Family and the Usos will play roles in this match. I hope the creepy little kids aren’t present, though it might be fun for one to show up and do a face-turn and kick Wyatt in the junk or something followed by the “you can’t see me” hand in front of the face routine.
Finally, a few scenarios for the Daniel Bryan & Brie Bella/Stephanie McMahon confrontation:
a) Bryan hangs on to belt but Brie isn’t fired as Stephanie wants revenge after Brie slaps her boss in the face. Steph either challenges Brie to a match or promises to get revenge via the services of another Diva.
b) Bryan has no choice to give up the title to save his wife’s job. Part of “a” could still happen, though. Kane could also make an appearance and set-up a future match with Bryan.
c) Bryan hands the belts over and as he does so “Cult of Personality” blasts throughout the Allstate Arena. Let your imagination run wild…
Also, have to imagine Adam Rose shows up somehow at the show as it will be interesting to see how the Chicago crowd reacts. I expect at least one surprising something to happen, be it a debut or return or such at the event. I think Payback has the potential to be an event that gets rewatched a lot.
