5/22/14 TNA Impact Wrestling Recap

May 23, 2014 - by Jason Graening

Impact Wrestling opens with a recap of MVP beating down Eric Young and joining forces with Bobby Lashley and Kenny King. The three are seen walking backstage where they attack Kazarian and leave him lying backstage. MVP says some people have to learn the hard way as MVP’s music hits and the trio make their way out to the ring.

MVP grabs a microphone and says he is a brilliant man that put himself in position to grab all the power. MVP says he will no longer ask for permission and is going to do things on his own terms. MVP then hands the microphone over to King who talks about MVP laying out his plans and calls him a genius, including the exhibition with MVP and his match against Lashley. Lashley then takes the microphone and said he gladly accepted MVP’s plan and calls him a visionary.

The three are interrupted by the Wolves’ music as Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards make their way to the ring. Richards says they had a ton of respect for MVP but MVP says he gave the two of them an opportunity to become tag team champions. MVP says he didn’t include them in his plans as they have too much heart, and they need to be heartless.

MVP then reminds the Wolves that he could terminate their contracts and they can go back and work in the indies for table scraps, where they probably belong. The Wolves don’t take too kindly to those words and they attack the trio, but the numbers game catches up with them as MVP, Lashley and King take out the Wolves.

MVP then says it’s not about wrestling, but about control as they drag Davey Richards up the entrance ramp. MVP tells Richards that he has to learn as Lashley spears Richards off the stage and onto a table. TNA agents and referees go out to check on Richards as we then see Eric Young arriving at the Impact Zone as we head into a commercial break.

Dixie Carter is seen arriving to the Impact Zone along with Ethan Carter III and Dixie says she is home. We then see footage of Davey Richards being loaded into a ambulance during the break as Eddie Edwards rides in the back with him.

Eric Young’s music hits as the TNA World Champion makes his way to the ring. EY doesn’t get to say much before he is cut off by MVP but EY tells MVP to shut up and listen to him. EY says MVP stabbed him in the back, calls King a scumbag, and can’t believe Lashley made the decision to join MVP after all he has done in the military, the wrestling business, and in MMA. MVP says Lashley learned how to get to the top and he is motivated by money, power and respect.

EY says the fans motivate him and EY goes after Lashley and King, but the 3-on-1 numbers work against EY. Austin Aries’ music hits as he comes out to lend a hand and takes out King before turning his attention to MVP. Lashley, however, tosses Aries across the ring, but EY and Aries dump him to the floor as MVP escapes out of the ring. Aries then grabs the microphone and says he saw MVP for exactly what he is, a fake. Aries then challenges MVP to step in the ring with him and MVP accepts the challenge. As for EY, he will let him know about his match when he is ready and the three walk up the ramp.

Bram is backstage with Magnus and tells him that he spoke to MVP on his behalf and Magnus will be in a match tonight against Willow in a falls count anywhere match. Magnus tells Bram that he is getting sick of him and Magnus takes him down and bloodies his mouth, which makes Bram laugh. Bram then says it’s all about Magnus finding himself and he walks away as Magnus calls him crazy.

Angelina Love is backstage and says she is going to make an open challenge tonight for the Knockouts Championship. Gail Kim then walks up and says she accepts her challenge and attacks her before it gets broken up and we head into a commercial break.

Footage of MVP’s group talking out Davey Richards is aired. We then head into the first match of the night, which is an open challenge for the TNA Knockouts Championship. Prior to the match, Angelina says she did issue an open challenge tonight, however, that challenge excludes all for Knockouts Champions. Angelina says she wants to give a newbie a shot at the title and wants to know who it will be as the challenge is answered by Brittany.

Match 1: Angelina Love vs. Brittany (TNA Knockouts Championship)
Angelina goes right on the attack and wears her down for a bit before Brittany begins to mount a comeback with a series of clotheslines and a boot to the face. Brittany then picks up a near fall after hitting a Russian leg sweep and then another after slamming Angelina down from the top turnbuckle. Brittany then rolls up Angelina, however, Velvet distracts the referee. Angelina then hits the Botox Injection on Brittany to pick up the pin fall and retains the TNA Knockouts Championship. After the match, the Beautiful People give Brittany the brown bag treatment until Gail Kim runs out and takes them both out until Velvet is able to remove Angelina from the ring.

Dixie Carter and EC3 are backstage and Dixie says she is still the president of TNA and she is going to address MVP’s actions tonight. The announce team then hypes the match between MVP and Austin Aries as we head into a commercial break.

Mr. Anderson and James Storm are hanging out at a bar together and Anderson wants to do something competitive with Storm. Anderson suggests pool, darts, of video game golf, but Storm doesn’t want anything to do with it. Storm suggests a drinking contest and Anderson says he is all for it and calls over the bartender.

Match 2: Austin Aries vs. MVP
Aries leaps out onto MVP on the floor to get this match started. The two fight on the floor where MVP gets the upperhand before rolling Aries into the ring. MVP takes a little too much time getting back into the ring where Aries is waiting and regains control of the match. Aries gets in a flurry of offense but MVP dumps Aries out to the floor and beats him down before picking up a near fall back in the ring. MVP then misses with a boot and Aries takes down MVP with a clothesline. Aries sets up for the brainbuster, but MVP blocks it only to be taken down with a discus forearm. Aries follows with a couple of corner dropkicks before heading to the top rope, however, Bobby Lashley and Kenny King run out and push Aries off the ropes to cause a disqualification.

The three then beat down Aries for a moment until Eric Young runs out to the ring. EY doesn’t get in much offense as he is quickly beaten down and MVP’s group pose together in the ring. MVP then grabs a microphone and tells EY that his opponent tonight will be Bobby Lashley. They are then cut off by Dixie Carter’s music as she makes her way to the ring with Ethan Carter III and we head into a commercial break.

Dixie Carter confronts MVP and says he won’t return his calls and emails and his actions over the past few weeks has dictated her return. Dixie says MVP has quite a posse put together and says she can do something for him, however, Bully Ray runs out and chases Dixie and EC3 out of the ring with a lead pipe. MVP then asks why Bully is there and he says he is there because MVP turned his back on everyone. Ray reminds MVP that he is standing in the ring because of him and tells him not to forget that.

Ray says out of all the people they could pick on, they decided to pick on Eric Young. Ray puts over EY and says he has been there from day one, is over with the fans, and worked his way to the top from the very bottom. King then blindsides Ray as the other two join in and begin laying the boots to Ray. Dixie and EC3 begin making their way to the ring to get a closer look and EC3 gives the group a round of applause. Dixie then enters the ring and tells EC3 to get the tables as he slides a table into the ring.

EC3 sets it up and tries to go for a powerbomb, however, Bully reverses it and takes EC3 down with a backdrop. Ray then turns his attention to Dixie as EC3 recovers and takes Ray down with a chop block. EC3 then sends Ray through the table as Dixie tells Ray that she fears nobody. The announce team then hypes the upcoming match between Willow and Magnus as we head into a commercial break.

Dixie Carter and EC3 are heading back to their limo as Ray is seen limping behind them. The two get into the car and drive off before Ray is able to do anything more than hit the trunk of the car.

Match 3: Magnus vs. Willow (Falls Count Anywhere)
Bram is standing ringside for this match as Magnus is quickly dumped out to the floor. Magnus quickly gains control and sends Willow into the steps and the apron before getting a quick pin attempt on the floor. Bram tries to give Magnus a crowbar, but Magnus drops it and instead tries for a suplex, but Willow reverses it and takes Magnus out. Willow rolls Magnus back into the ring and hits a couple of elbow drops before heading to the top rope but misses with a high risk move.

Willow is able to comeback and hits Magnus with a clothesline that sends him out to the floor. Willow follows with a dive out to the floor and picks up a near fall over Magnus. The two continue to fight on the ramp as Bram again hands Magnus a crowbar. Magnus grabs the weapon and nails Willow in the midsection with it, which angers Bram. Magnus then sets up to nail Willow in the head with the crowbar but he can’t do it. Willow recovers and hits Magnus with the Twist of Fate on the ramp and picks up the pin fall. Bram is disgusted with the loss and chews out Magnus.

Gunner is in a padded cell with Samuel Shaw and says he is there for him. Gunner says he knows what he is going through as he has spent plenty of time in a place just like this. We then see Eddie Edwards return to the Impact Zone as we head into a commercial break.

We return to the padded cell where Gunner tells Samuel Shaw about how one of his military buddies went through PTSD and he was the one who got him the help he needed. Gunner says in the end his friend got better and he believes Shaw can also get better. Shaw says he can’t trust Gunner and Gunner says he will get the jacket taken off of him before leaving the room.

Eddie Edwards storms to the ring and challenges MVP’s group to a fight and says he won’t leave until someone comes out. Kenny King comes out and Edwards meets him on the ramp and beats the hell out of him on the ramp and around the ring. Edwards begins choking King with his shirt before rolling him into the ring. King begins to get in some offense and nails Edwards with a microphone but Edwards is quick to come back and takes King out with a suicide dive through the ropes. King comes back, though, and takes Edwards down with a suplex onto the ramp before leaving.

We return to the bar where Mr. Anderson and James Storm are continuing their drinking contest. Anderson grabs a few more beers and winks to the camera as Storm says this is going to be a long night and we head into a commercial break.

MVP catches up with Brian Hebner in the backstage area and apologizes for attacking him last week. MVP says he is going to make up for it by making him the official in tonight’s main event, however, he tells Hebner to do the right thing and not let him down.

The drinking contest continues between Mr. Anderson and James Storm, who tells Anderson that he is the worst drunk ever. Anderson then tells Storm that he is drinking near beer while Storm has been drinking real beer. Anderson then says he is going to get back at Storm and clocks him before taking him outside and tossing him into the dumpster. Anderson then gives Storm money for winning the drinking contest before leaving.

Jeremy Borash is backstage with Eric Young who says he isn’t in the best of shapes tonight with a hurt arm, back and bruised ribs. However, when he steps into the ring against Bobby Lashley, he will give him 100% of everything that he has left as we head into a commercial break.

Match 4: Eric Young vs. Bobby Lashley
The match starts and EY goes on the early offensive before Lashley finally tosses EY out to the floor. Lashley follows and sends EY into the ring apron a couple of times to focus on EY’s back before rolling him back into the ring. Lashley begins to pound on EY with a series of rights and continues to work over EY’s back area as we head into a commercial break.

The match resumes as Lashley is still in control and takes EY down with a long delayed suplex for a near fall. Lashley then takes EY down with a back drop for another near fall before locking EY in a bear hug. EY fights his way out of it and takes Lashley down with a flying forearm. EY follows with a missile dropkick for a near fall, but Lashley is able to counter EY’s offense with a side slam for another near fall. Lashely then tries for a running slam, however, EY counters and takes out Lashley with a piledriver. EY heads to the top rope, but MVP and Kenny King run out and trip up and crotch EY on the top rope. Lashley then hits EY with a spear and a running slam to pick up the pin fall.

After the match, MVP’s group gather in the ring and celebrate the victory while getting in EY’s face. MVP and King lay in a few strikes before Austin Aries runs out to the ring with a kendo stick. MVP and King are cleared from the ring but Lashley takes him down with a spear as the trio turns their attention to Aries. King takes Aries out with a slam and the trio pose in the ring as Impact Wrestling comes to a close.
