The GERWECK.NET HALL OF FAME is intended to include the elite members of the wrestling community that deserve to be inducted into a prestigious hall of fame without prejudice or politics. Areas of consideration for induction should include (but not be limited to) a wrestler’s drawing power, wrestling ability, impact or influences on the business, longevity, and passion/drive for the industry. Non-in ring performers (such as promoters, announcers, referees, etc.) should also be judged by a similar criterion, based on the highest standards for their areas. Remember, this is not a popularity contest. This hall of fame will only include the best of the best. Readers should e-mail with names of candidates worthy of consideration. The name with the highest number of suggestions will be considered for voting the following month. Thus, twelve names will be considered per year, and the number of inductees for the year is totally up to the GERWECK.NET readers. If a subject doesn’t qualify for induction, he or she will remain off the consideration list for twelve months. If a subject receives 70% or higher, he or she will be inducted.

I’m not saying that his wrestling career was worthy, but we kept Chris Benoit out for taking lives, why couldn’t we have inducted DDP for saving them?

  2. I would like to hear valid reasons as to why people voted no.

  3. 90s kid says:

Well the reason I voted no was because he was easily forgettable when compared to other top guys. Watched alot of his matches and realized that he honestly was not even one of the greatest wrestlers at all. He was a gimmick, good on the Mic and did a nice diamond cutter. I don’t believe he is hall of fame worthy.

    @Steve Gerweck.
He should’ve been voted in even if he had never stepped inside a ring in his life. Unfortunately, saving lives is in no way as media-friendly as taking them, so my guess is that most people didn’t even take what he has done in recent years into consideration.

Here’s an idea. How about adding an open comments section to all polls for their duration? I think that if we had a discussion going throughout the month, the outcome might be a litle different.

Off topic, how about giving Jim Johnston a chance? He has to be the most overlooked person in wrestling and his contributions have been huge.

  5. Toni says:

His work with DDP Yoga and helping people is great. His wrestling career is a different story and thats why I voted no. His WCW world heavyweight title reigns were a joke. He had some midcard success, but nothing hall of fame worthy. Ultimately he will always be remembered for his association with the one of the darkest days in wrestling history, David Arquette winning the WCW world heavyweight championship. Take away Arquette and his yoga program and DDP is yet another forgettable midcarder.

  6. Swayze says:

DDP was one of the only reasons to watch a dying WCW. He got the worst writing in wrestling history thrown in his face every single week and still always managed to shine nonetheless.

  7. Ian says:

I’m not saying I didnt enjoy DDP in the ring or that he doesnt belong at some point in the Gerweck Hall of Fame but when you look at his legacy in the ring compared to many of those that have NOT been voted in I simply cant vote him in over probably close to a dozen of those not been voted in and will continue to vote that way. There are just too many guys on the list that deserve it more than DDP.

  8. Dragon says:

@steve part of the problem with ddp and a few others who have failed to make the HOF is due to the traffic to this site now having a lot more people who feel the likes wwe is the only relevant thing.

They have no clue what wcw was and how big it was. All they know is wcw was beat by Vince McMahon. So an idea of “oh Vince didn’t hire him he must have been not that good. I’d be willing to bet that a portion of the No’s are people who only know him from ddp yoga.

These are the same brilliant individuals who say the Beatles weren’t that big because they never trended on twitter.

Honestly unless the name on the balot is something wwe spewes weekly I feel many names will be unjustifiably absent from the gerweck HOF

  9. Pat says:

DDP (or DDMe) had a pretty good run during the Monday Night Wars, but in the big picture it was relatively short compared to the big runs of other top stars. During his peak run in WCW, he didn’t feel as big or important as Hogan, Goldberg, Sting, or Nash. By the time he was a world champion, WCW was a noticeable number-two. His WWE run was forgettable. Also, he doesn’t compare favorable to other top stars during his era like Austin, Rock, Undertaker, and Triple H. DDP might be a Hall of Fame entrepreneur, fitness personality, or lifestyle coach, but he wasn’t an elite, top-tier pro-wrestling star.
