Ok, this one’s just stupid, comparable to voting Dean Malenko over Andre the Giant in a tallest wrestler poll…

Can anyone actually make an argument as to why they voted Steamboat over Hart (or anyone else in the previous rounds for that matter)?

Unless this is a case of some dork with too much free time hacking the poll. If that’s the case, I’d seriously consider a major overhaul of the voting system.

Maybe it was because he won the greatest intercontinental title match of all time.

  3. rebel says:

Which he followed up by being easily the worst IC champion until that time and for the next several years. Plus, he wasn’t the champion during the match, so it should have no weight on the vote. The title of the poll isn’t misleading.

You all are going to complain about 1 of the greatest in ring technicians beating another ring general, yet not complain about 2 of the biggest jokes ever Honky Tonk Man & Ultimate Warrior being ranked as high as they were, and making it as far as they did?

  5. rebel says:

Yes, Andrew, I am. When you read, try to understand the words. Greatest IC Champion means exactly that. It does not mean “Greatest Technician”, or “Greatest General”, or “Best Wrestler”, or “Best Hairstyle”, or even “Bluest Eyes”. I could go on and on.

Yes, Steamboat is an all-time great, but it has no bearing whatsoever on his crap of an IC title reign, whereas Bret’s reigns are easily among the best ever. Honky still holds the longest reign of all time, Warrior was the first IC champ to headline a PPV and win the big one, both were major draws as the champion. Was Steamboat a better wrestler than either one? Of course, even both combined, arguably the greatest ever, but so what?
This poll only concerns a couple of months of his career.

  6. Really? says:

Oh. I thought it said best Intercontinental Champion, not best title reign.

In my opinion, a good reign tops the criteria to determine a good champion. What do you believe made Steamboat a good champion?
