Wrestling By The Numbers: Amy ‘Lita’ Dumas

World Wrestling Entertainment has announced the newest inductee joining The Ultimate Warrior and Jake Roberts in 2014 WWE Hall Of Fame Class will be former 4-Time WWE Women’s Champion Amy ‘Lita’ Dumas. The 38-year-old Fort Lauderdale Florida native is remembered for her high risk, Mexican influenced style including moves such as a moonsault, a diving hurricanrana, a head scissors takedown and even a suicide dive which were not maneuvers other women used at the time. Her style and charisma very early her in her career made her one of the most popular divas in history as her popularity peaked in 2001 as apart of Team Xtreme with The Hardy Boyz. Her career came full circle in 2005 when details of a real life affair with fellow superstar Edge became public and was used in storylines feuding with Matt Hardy in the WWE. This would lead to both Edge and Lita becoming the premier heel act in professional wrestling drawing massive heat from fans around the world.

Prior to entering the squared circle Amy Dumas worked for years as roadie for a band and also played base guitar while traveling around the country. She first became interested in professional wrestling after being impressed by Rey Mysterio’s lucha libre style after seeing him compete on World Championship Wrestling. In 1998 Dumas moved to Mexico and first worked in the country as a club dancer before earning enough money to enroll in wrestling training. She was eventually trained by numerous wrestlers including Ricky Santana, Miguel Perez, Kevin Quinn, El Dandy and Ace Steel. After being trained she made a few appearances with Empress Mexicana de la Lucha Libre in Mexico before moving back to the United States. She worked as Angelica for independent promotions including Maryland Championship Wrestling, NWA Mid-Atlantic and the Future Of Wrestling promotion before being signed by Extreme Championship Wrestling in the spring of 1999.

Known as Miss Congeniality she was paired alongside Danny Doring and Roadkill and the trio feuded with the likes of Nova, Chris Chetti and Jazz during her multiple month stint in ECW. Dumas graduated from The Funking Controversy wrestling school in August 1999 and impressed instructor Dory Funk Jr. who strongly recommended the her to Vince McMahon. World Wrestling Entertainment signed Dumas in November of 1999 and she became known as Lita first having a short stint with Memphis Championship Wrestling. Her 7-year WWE career was highlighted with runs managing both The Hardy Boyz and Edge and also had memorable feuds throughout the years with fellow WWE Hall Of Famer Trish Stratus. Since leaving the WWE in 2006 she has continued to make occasional wrestling appearances for the company and some independent organizations. Over the past 8-years she has remained busy with her animal charity A.D.O.R.E., performing with her band The Luchagors and also hosting a radio show called Amy’s Discordia.

  1. doug says:

I simply cannot believe that she has the 2nd most Raw main events of all time. Check the numbers for Cena, Edge, Punk, Orton, Jericho, HHH, HBK, Batista, Rock, Austin– I guarantee at least two of them had more than 7.

  2. What? says:

@doug: I’m pretty sure they mean 2nd most among Divas.
