Column: 7 CM PUNK SCENARIOS

The ‘net is abuzz with CM Punk theories. Is he gone for good? Is this a work? Will he go the MMA route? Here are the seven possible scenarios:

1) PUNK IS GONE

Here’s the simplest scenario: Punk has really packed up and left for good. This is the one most of us don’t want to be the case, but we’ve seen Steve Austin and Jerry Lawler up and leave (and come back!). He could be gone, but one has to think he’ll be back. He’s got to be a Hall of Famer at some point?

2) PUNK IS DANIEL BRYAN’S SAVING GRACE

In my column last week predicting the Wrestlemania XXX card, I suggested Punk will return sooner than later to WWE setting up Batista as a heel. Somehow Punk tricks Batista into waiving his title match and Bryan gets the go ahead to have his Wrestlemania moment and clain the World Heavyweight Title.

3) PUNK STARTS A FACTION

Perhaps Punk returns under a different scenario with friends like Colt Cabana. His misfit bunch comes back to stand up to the man — The Authority. It’s a new New World Order that is hell bent on causing as much mischief as possible. Of course, he lets us know we all got “punk’d.”

4) DIXIE HIRES PUNK

TNA might be the Titanic, but what the hey — Dixie Carter brings Punk in as both creative director and top star. Punk trims the roster to about 16-20 mainstays and the organization begins a rotating cast of top independent talent. TNA stays fresh, becomes a proving ground for new talent and somehow becomes watchable again.

5) PUNK THE A-LISTER

Putting wrestling in the past Punk decides to go the acting route. He’s no Robert DeNiro, but is able to make a decent living as a lead’s friend/wingman/adversary.

6)PUNK NEEDS A BREAK

Another work scenario, but maybe Punk just needs a break. And rather than write him off with an injury, a scenario like this makes us more hungry for his eventual return, say, around Summerslam?

7) PUNK JOINS DOUBLE J

With a proposed new organization coming from Jeff Jarrett, this might be the perfect time to sign-up the hottest free agent in the business. Punk adds instant credibility and could easily become the face of the new group.

It’s hard to think Punk is gone for good. No matter the scenario, I’d put money on Punk returning to WWE by the end of 2014. I don’t see him joining another group, save doing some Japanese tours, nor do I see him becoming a great thespian. We got worked a little bit before when he left as champ, so it’s not out of the world of possibility that we are getting taken for a great ride one more time.
