WWE to Air Chris Benoit Footage on the Network

From F4WOnline.com:

WWE has sent out a memo stating that Chris Benoit footage will be allowed on its new Network broadcasts.

However, there will be an advisory played before every show he appears on.

WWE is expected to announce the Network in Las Vegas next week.

    What type of advisory?

“The following match contains a man who killed his wife, kid and himself. But none of that will be seen in the match. Enjoy!”

They’ve been trying to distance themselves from the murders since it happened and all this does is draw MORE attention to it. I swear, WWE is run by morons.

Hmmmm, never thought id see the day.

Knowing the WWE, they’ll take the time to flash the message before all of Benoit’s matches, then unwittingly have the host/announcer of the show say, “What a killer match!”

  4. Cold says:

    Lazy editing

Here’s the punchline: There is no WWE network.

  6. Matt says:

Plenty of other companies do similar things, whether it’s scenes of nazis, racism in cartoons, etc. A simple disclaimer is not hurting anyone and serve it’s purposes.

Besides given the average of user here doesn’t seem to watch all of any of the televised shows, i’m sure they can manage to not pay attention for the few seconds a disclaimer shows, the do it multiple times every monday night already.

  7. Bill Marr says:

Hell why don’t they air the match where Antonio Inoki beat Bob Backlund for the WWE title too while they are at it? lol

  8. Simba says:

Can’t help but feel a little odd seeing Benoit perform the suicide dive and his cut-throat taunt nowadays… I wonder if they’ll edit the commentary during his matches?
Truly awesome he’s being included in this though, maybe wwe has realised they will never completely erase his memory from fans (no matter how hard they try).

My wife suggested they blurred his face. I laughed.

This is going to be uncomfortable for some, and not an issue for others. At least the disclaimer gives people a chance to switch off.

It is still raw for people, whereas other people are cold, emotionless and immune to much of what makes us human. Of course it will be difficult for his fans to see and for those who remember two other lives were cruelly taken.

I expect the commentary tracks and the matches will be edited to take away any unintentional foreshadowing.

I have to say if they’re telling the truth Im excited. Benoit was one of my favorite wrestlers growing up and Im one of those fans that believes wwe should be playing his old matches. Im sorry about what happened in the end but erasing a mans career or trying too is messed up.

  11. Sonia says:

There should be a distinction between Chris the wrestler and Chris the man. I’m sure the drugs and head trauma suffered during his career played a big part on his actions at the end of his life. What he did was deplorable, but he was one heck of a wrestler. I have no issue with this. You don’t want to watch his match turn it off hence the disclaimer.

  12. LOL says:

Not anticipating any negative media fallout from this at all!

  13. Andrew Davis says:

I completely understand why the WWE has done what they have done, & think it’s great they will be including him in the Network. Vince has said, “We are not trying to Mr. Benoit has done in the business didn’t happen. BUT at the same time it would be wrong to try to profit financially off what he did.”

  14. Icarus says:

Remember him for his technical skill, in-ring ability and tremendous work rate, not his final few hours.

  15. Deathedge says:

I support the move. On that 20th anniversary RAW DVD they edited out his entrance on one ep, but they seem more open to showing footage of him now so this really doesn’t surprise me.

The disclaimer will probably read something like “Though the following footage features him, WWE does not endorse the actions that Christopher Michael Benoit committed. This footage may be uncomfortable for some due to those actions. We advise those people to now change the channel…”
