Wrestling By The Numbers: Richard ‘Richie Steamboat’ Blood Jr.

World Wrestling Entertainment has released second generation wrestler Richard ‘Richie Steamboat’ Blood Jr. The 26-year-old Charlotte North Carolina native was signed by the WWE to a developmental contract in February of 2010. Blood Jr. who is the son of WWE Hall Of Famer Ricky Steamboat, was first assigned to Florida Championship Wrestling where he found major success. He became only the second person in the history of FCW to be a grand slam champion being a former 1-Time FCW Florida Champion, 1-Time FCW Tag-Team Champion and 1-Time FCW 15 Champion. His former tag-team champion partner Seth Rollins was the only other grand slam champion. Blood Jr. transitioned to NXT Wrestling when FCW was re-branded but hadn’t appeared since suffering a back injury in November of 2012 and undergoing surgery. The news of his release was just made public and the exact date of his contract termination is unknown.

Richard Blood Jr. is a 5-year professional who first debuted back in 2008 after having been trained by George South, Harley Race, Mitsuharu Misawa and Ricky Steamboat. He started his career working primarily for World League Wrestling and other nearby independent organizations. In 2009 he completed tours with Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan, the World Wrestling Council in Puerto Rico and with All Star Wrestling in England. Prior to entering the squared circle Blood Jr. was a standout football player and amateur wrestler in high school. One of his rivals during his high school wrestling days with the late Reid Fliehr.
