In Memoriam

Two years ago today, the wrestling world lost 2-time GHC Tag Team Champion Bison Smith aged just 38. Smith trained under Michael Modest and Donovan Morgan in California and debuted for their APW promotion in 1998. Smith was always trying to improve himself as a wrestler and took frequent overseas tours to learn new styles. Even in his early career, he was a regular in Japan, Puerto Rico and Europe. He also proved himself an adept hardcore wrestler, winning at least one specialist Hardcore Title during his career. His career was going from strength to strength in his later years; he had won gold in Japan, the USA and Puerto Rico and had just unsuccessfully challenged Takashi Sugiura for the GHC Heavyweight Title before passing away in Puerto Rico of a previously unknown heart defect. He was scheduled to wrestle Eddie ‘Primo’ Colon for the WWC promotion later that week. The event started with a tribute paid to Smith by Willie Urbina, with the whole WWC roster in the ring.
