Paul London on Triple H: “I could tell he was envious of (Rob) Van Dam”

From my interview with Paul London, talking about Triple H…

That is another reason I’m pretty sure I won’t be returning there any time soon. Hunter was pretty obviously jealous of certain individuals. I’m not saying he was jealous of me. I could tell he was envious of (Rob) Van Dam. He was extremely envious of Rob’s success. He was jealous of Van Dam’s personality. He was jealous that people gravitated towards Rob, because people liked being around Rob because he was very positive. The most glaring was the work rate. Hunter has had the same matches his whole career. If the guy is so damn tough, why does he need a sledgehammer. How do you justify this guying be a bad ass if he always has a weapon. Hunter is like that nerd that throws out a joke expecting the room to start laughing and ends up laughing at his own joke.

Yea he won’t be returning to wwe if he is talking about hhh like that

  2. Matt says:

But why do guys like London and people on the internet act like the workrate thing is a bad thing?

Is there not room in the business for more than one type of workstyle? Can we not have bigger guys who are more ground and pound? guys who are more flippy quick movers, guys who are hardcore styled, guys who are more technically styled. We need people to fill each of those styles and then some.

And at the end of the day does it matter if they have the same match all the time….what exactly makes any Rob Van Dam match any different from any other Rob Van Dam match? What exactly makes any Triple H match different from any other Triple H match? And why does it matter? If Rob Van Dam matches and Triple H matches are entertaining, why are we even complaining? Clearly they both are. End of story.

But now to play devil’s advocate, what makes any paul London match different from any other Paul London match? And are we sure he’s not envious of guys like RVD or HHH. London while good at his job has never proven to be able to make himself a commodity and he’s been in a lot of companies by now. If he was anything more than decent his legacy would have increased in stock by now. But again most wrestlers going today are decent and that’s fine. But there’s a reason there’s a Paul London and then there’s Rob Van Dam and Triple H.

  3. DBRude says:

@ Matt – It matters because repetition is boring.

Personally, I find RVD less entertaining than HHH. He’s in his fourties, still walking, talking, acting and dressing like the same guy he was in his twenties; only he’s less impressive now.

Not only has HHH evolved, but I find his humor funny, and his in-ring presentation looks more realistic and hard-hitting than Van Dam’s; weapon or no weapon.

  4. The weapon thing is stupid. Big Show uses chairs, Jeff Hardy uses ladders…I mean all wrestlers use weapons. And come on! You’re comparing Triple H to RVD and THEN saying Triple H isn’t a badass because he used weapons?! RVD was the effing face of EC effing W!!!

  5. Shockmaster Suplex says:

Jimmy Wang Yang = RAW country!

  6. Jam Jar says:

It’s clear that Paul London doesn’t wanna work for the WWE again, I think it’s cool that he’s prepared to be honest about it. I could totally buy into a classic guy like HHH being envious of RVD, I probably would’ve been too in the same situation.

  7. Rope says:

    @Matt

But then again, guys like Paul London or RVD don’t have reputations for playing politics to keep their top stops to feed their egos do they? There are not too many Paul London’s or RVD’s who have had reputations for burying other guys to maintain their perception of being the tough guy, are there?

The closest thing to that RVD ever did was being reportedly reluctant to lose to certain guys in TNA who in his opinion had never done anything in the business. It is not necessarily trying to maintain a top spot, it is more of “did you bring me into this company to be a missing top guy or not”?
