McMahon on Summerslam: “swing and a miss”

Arda Ocal via Twitter covering today’s WWE conference call:

Vince McMahon says that PPV is attraction driven, and Summerslam wasn’t the right attraction; a “swing and a miss”

This comment has been perceived as McMahon putting the blame on Daniel Bryan.

Is it me or do the articles that contradict themselves a lot more than usual today?

  2. Stunning Steve says:

If that’s true, McMahon is dead wrong. The only thing that kept me watching the show was the hope that Daniel Bryan would finally get the title and his comeuppance. Now that they have replaced him in the feud with Big Slow I couldn’t be less interested. I am done with watching wrestling for a while. TNA has gone downhill too.

I’m feeling more and more like Bryan Danielson needs to leave WWE and go back to ROH, where he’ll be appreciated.

  4. What? says:

If Bryan wasn’t so ridiculously over right now (deservedly so), he would be absolutely buried. The fact that he isn’t buried certainly isn’t for lack of effort on McMahon’s part.

I regret that there was no payoff with DB, but don’t feel like he has a solid enough persona yet to carry the WWE championship. Rock, HHH, HBK, Big Show, Kurt Angle, Cena and even Orton are all solid characters. Their delivery on the mic always sounds affirmative and coherent.

Daniel Bryan isn’t really a firm character, yet, and neither is his mic work. Like Chris Benoit, he has to keep throwing out that “passion for the business” card to get reactions, but he can’t rely on that forever, and shouldn’t be relying on it at all.

What about everyone else on the roster? They’re not passionate about the business, too? They just chose to do this for a living, but not for love, I guess.
