WWE Hell in a Cell Preview and Predictions
Tonight, WWE will present us, the WWE Universe, with the fifth-annual Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event. The build for this year’s show, for the most part, has been pretty decent, and I for one have ordered the show and will be watching. As a disclaimer, due to my job I haven’t seen Smackdown in a few months, but I have been reading what has happened on the Blue Brand. Without any further delay, here are my official predictions for the show:
Some late news for Hell in a Cell: due to an injury, Curtis Axel will not defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Big E. Langston tonight.
Los Matadores (Diego and Fernando) (w/El Torito) vs. The Real Americans (Antonio Cesaro and Jack Swagger) (w/Zeb Colter)
Zeb Colter has been taking shots at Los Matadores since they debuted a few weeks back and it has led to a match between his Real Americans and the masked men at Hell in a Cell. Rumors have been swirling for a while now that Cesaro is in line for a face turn. Obviously, it hasn’t happened yet, and I don’t even know if that plan is still on the table. This match could be an entertaining one if it is given enough time on the under-card. In the end, I believe Los Matadores’ winning streak will continue on, while we may start seeing some dissension in the ranks of The Real Americans.
Prediction: Los Matadores pick up the win.
WWE Divas Championship Match: AJ Lee (c) (w/Tamina Snuka) vs. Brie Bella (w/Nikki Bella)
AJ has been at odds with the Divas of Total Divas since the show premiered on the E! Network, and is seemingly the dominant Diva in the WWE. I think AJ is in for a long title run (she is already nearing five months), where in the end she will lose it to Tamina Snuka some time in 2014.
Prediction: AJ Lee retains the WWE Divas Championship.
WWE Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Match: Cody Rhodes and Goldust (c) vs. The Shield (Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins) vs. The Usos (Jey and Jimmy)
Never in a million years would I have guessed Goldust to be one half of the tag team to take the titles from The Shield, but I am not complaining. I have always been a fan of Goldust. I do like the emphasis that is being placed on the tag team division from time to time, even if it is just a few teams. This match should be a fun one to watch with three great teams. We know The Shield and The Usos always have great matches, and Rhodes and Goldust vs. The Shield last month was fun as well, so I see it being no different when all three teams are in the mix. There will be a lot of cool spots in the match, and in the end, I do not foresee a title change in this one.
Prediction: Cody Rhodes and Goldust retain the WWE Tag Team Championship
Handicap Hell in a Cell Match: CM Punk vs. Paul Heyman and Ryback
For the second year in a row, Punk and Ryback will do battle inside the Cell. The differences from last year? Punk is now the face, Ryback is now the heel, and Heyman is aligned with Ryback instead of Punk. What a difference a year makes, huh? For months, Punk has been trying to get his hands on Heyman and give him the beating of a lifetime, but each time his efforts have been thwarted by Ryback, Curtis Axel, and even Brock Lesnar. Tonight is Punk’s best shot, and I believe he will get it. Punk will have to fight off Ryback to get to Heyman, but I believe he will, and for the second year in a row Punk will walk out of Hell in a Cell as the victor.
Prediction: CM Punk wins inside the Cell.
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. John Cena
When Cena left with his injury, he stated his recovery time was 4 to 6 months, and he was going to take every bit of it to heal completely before he returned. Two months later, he’s back. Now, I’m not saying Cena didn’t make a miraculous recovery in two months time, but I think WWE realized they had NO ONE to feud with Del Rio, and asked Cena to come back early. I’m pretty sure that’s what happened. It’s fairly obvious what happens in this one, so I need to say no more.
Prediction: John Cena wins the World Heavyweight Championship.
World Heavyweight Championship Match: John Cena (c) vs. Damien Sandow
After Cena beats Del Rio, Del Rio will attack him after the match, locking in the cross arm-breaker. This will lead to Damien Sandow cashing in the Money in the Bank contract.
Prediction: Damien Sandow walks out of Hell in a Cell as the World Heavyweight Champion.
Hell in a Cell Match for the vacant WWE Championship (w/Shawn Michaels as the Special Guest Referee): Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton
I believe this is Daniel Bryan’s last shot to win the WWE Championship before the crowd starts to sour on the same thing happening. Daniel Bryan needs to win and needs to keep the title for a LONG time. Daniel Bryan does not need to win the title and then be stripped the next night on Raw. I have started to notice the crowd participation in the “YES!” chance is dwindling little by little. Now is the time to cash in on Bryan as a legitimate Champion. Will they pull the trigger? I surely hope so. Randy Orton may be the “face” of the WWE, but I don’t remember a time where he captivated the audience the way Daniel Bryan has. There is another factor that could come into play in this match: The Big Show. He will surely have some sort of involvement in this match, but I hope he doesn’t. Bryan needs a clean win over Orton to go along with his legitimacy. He doesn’t need a cheap win with the help of Show or even Shawn Michaels. I’m not sure he will get it, though. I do see Bryan leaving with the title, but it won’t be a clean win.
Prediction: Daniel Bryan wins the WWE Championship for a third time.
