Released NXT announcer reportedly lacked passion for wrestling

NXT announcer Tony Dawson was released last week. The book on him is he was a nice guy but didn’t have any passion for wrestling, reports The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. He and Tom Phillips were both hired at about the same time and the feeling was Phillips had passed him by.

So does this mean that they’re gonna get rid of everyone else without the passion for wrestling?

  2. Not surprised by this at all. The questions he asked Regal on NXT was ridiculous. He didn’t even know what a headlock was. Tom Phillips is getting better and they had Renee Young on commentary for a match on this weeks NXT. I thought she did good and could improve if given the opportunity. Her, Cole and JBL on commentary would be great. If you watch the JBL and Cole Show you’ll know how them 3 get on. Also, how about hiring fans of wrestling instead of randoms? I would love to give commentary a go. I do it on my YouTube channel and I think if given the chance I’d be pretty good at it.

What a shame. Based on that description he could have been the next Mike Adamle.
