Wrestling By The Numbers: Benjamin ‘B.J.’ Whitmer

Ring Of Honor Wrestling’s Benjamin ‘B.J’ Whitmer has announced his retirement from professional wrestling due to a neck injury he sustained at the company’s All Star Extravaganza home video taping last month. The 35-year-old Owensboro Kentucky native was injured back on August 3rd after taking a piledriver on the ring apron during a match with Mike Bennett. The contest was stopped immediately and Whitmer spent several days in a Toronto hospital before being released and allowed to return to the United States. Whitmer had spent a combined 5 and a half years with ROH over two separate stints with the organization. The former 4-Time ROH Tag-Team Champion competed from 2003-2007 and then returned as a regular in February 2012 after a 4-year absence.

Benjamin Whitmer’s career inside the squared circle spanned 10-years after debuting back in 2000 following training from Les Thatcher and Ian Rotten. Whitmer was a regular with both the Heartland Wrestling Association and IWA Mid-South early in his career. He also competed in tours of Japan with Pro Wrestling NOAH in 2001, 2005 and again in 2008. Benjamin Whitmer first retired from professional wrestling in early 2008 and he remained inactive until returning to the ring in the spring of 2011. Before rejoining ROH in 2012 he also spent time competing with the popular Dragon Gate USA organization.

Mike Bennett now has to live with the fact that he caused the injury that ended B.J Whitmer’s in-ring career, but it’s a shame it had to end this way.

  2. suge says:

Painkillers messed this guy up big time.
