The Wrestling Observer Newsletter report that Ronnie Arniell, 32, better known as Shawn Spears, was signed by WWE to a new developmental contract. Although he was with the company for years, Arniell got his deal based on a good showing at one of the recent tryouts, which also included ROH champion Adam Cole, Michael Bennett, and Luke Hawk. Spears had been under a WWE developmental deal from 2006 to 2009.

That is damn excellent news. I hope the current roster system gives him better chances than the previous one. Even if he’s just on NXT it will be well worth it.

He’s without a doubt one of top 3 guys who really did deserve a better time and chance to debut. The only two people with a better claim to that has to be Colt Cabana and Jay Bradley.

@Matt – I’d throw Johnny Jeter near the top of that list, too. Spears back is great news, though. The NXT roster is getting stacked.
