The SummerSlam Kickoff Show with a shot of the inside of the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California. Josh Mathews welcomes us to the Kickoff Show, and introduces the Superstar Panel for tonight, which consists of Booker T, Shawn Michaels, and Vickie Guerrero. Michael says he is looking forward to the show and the biggest thing is Daniel Bryan vs. John Cena. Booker says he is looking forward to Bray Wyatt vs. Kane, and Vickie says she is looking forward to Alberto Del Rio vs. Christian. Michaels says Wyatt is in an uphill battle tonight in the Ring of Fire Match. We take a look back to Raw, where Rob Van Dam became the number one contender to the WWE United States Championship and The Big Show returned to assist Van Dam and Mark Henry against The Shield. Booker says Van Dam is going to have to step up tonight and Michael says everybody is impressed with The Shield and this will prove if they are the real deal.
We go backstage to the Social Media Lounge and join Renee Young. She wants to know the predictions of the WWE Universe on Twitter and the WWE Universe’s favorite SummerSlam moments on Tout.
We take a look at the video hype package for the on-going feud between Brock Lesnar and CM Punk. We are joined by Paul Heyman, who is backstage. Mathews goes to ask Heyman a question, but Heyman tells him to stop. Heyman says David vs. Goliath is a story we tell our children to give them hope that there are still heroes left in the world. Heyman says Brock Lesnar will take CM Punk’s best shot, but then will lay waste to Punk and make it to where we will never see Punk again. Heyman says he would like to make sure that Lesnar and Punk do battle under the rules of no disqualification. Heyman says Punk will be pushed into martyrdom by Lesnar. Booker says Lesnar is right at home in a no disqualification situation now, but Punk will not lay down. Michaels says he was concerned for Punk before this match, but the no disqualification stipulation will serve him well.
We go outside where some fans are interviewed about their travels. Two guys flew 13 hours from Ireland and talk about how they’re looking forward to John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan and CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar.
We see a preview for tonight’s episode of Total Divas, and then Michaels, Booker, and Vickie talk about the match featuring Brie Bella and Natalya set for tonight. Mathews brings up the Mixed Tag Team Match between Dolph Ziggler and Kaitlyn and the duo of Big E Langston and AJ Lee. We then see a video package highlighting the feud.
We go back into the Social Media Lounge, and Renee Young reads a few Tweets from some members of the WWE Universe. We then take a look at the video hype package for the John Cena/Daniel Bryan feud. Michaels says he is biased and is pulling for Bryan tonight. Vickie says Cena got everything handed to him and wants Bryan to win. Booker says Cena has been at the top for a long time and Michaels says Cena has earned everything he’s gotten. Vickie says she disagrees. Booker says right now is the perfect time for Bryan to step up.
We go outside to Tony Dawson again, and he interviews two fans about winning two tickets for SummerSlam tonight and they say they are looking forward to CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar and their favorite moment so far was meeting Randy Orton. We go back into the arena, where Michael Cole, John Bradshaw Layfield, and Jerry Lawler are ringside and begin running down the card for the show.
WWE United States Championship Match – Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Rob Van Dam
RVD goes after Ambrose, but Ambrose backs into the ropes. Ambrose gets RVD in a headlock, but RVD sends him off the ropes and Ambrose takes him down with a shoulder block. Ambrose works over RVD’s arm down on the mat, but RVD fights out and drops Ambrose with a shoulder block. RVD takes Ambrose down in the corner and taunts him. RVD goes over the top of Ambrose and drops him with a clothesline. RVD gets Ambrose in a headlock and goes for the cover, but Ambrose kicks out at two. Ambrose comes back and takes RVD to the corner and delivers a couple chops. RVD counters and delivers rights and lefts to Ambrose, followed by a few kicks. Ambrose comes back and slams RVD to the mat and goes for the cover, but RVD kicks out at two. Ambrose wrenches RVD’s neck as the crowd is split 50/50 between the two men. Ambrose dropkicks RVD against the ropes and goes for the cover, but RVD kicks out at two. RVD comes back with a few kicks and then a cross-body from the top. RVD goes for the cover, but Ambrose kicks out at two. RVD slams Ambrose and goes for the split-leg moonsault, but Ambrose gets his knees up. Ambrose takes RVD down with a big clothesline and goes for the cover, but RVD kicks out at two. RVD takes Ambrose down with a kick and goes up top, but The Shield’s music hits and ROman Reigns and Seth Rollins descend upon the ring. Mark Henry’s music hits, followed by Big Show’s and they come to the ring to even the odds as we head to a “commercial.”
We’re back and Ambrose is in control in the ring. Ambrose goes for the cover, but RVD kicks out at two. Ambrose gets RVD in a headlock, but RVD elbows his way free. Ambrose sends RVD through the ropes and out to the floor. Henry and Show keep Reigns and Rollins away from RVD. Ambrose goes out after RVD, but RVD counters with a suplex on the floor. RVD places Ambrose on the barricade and delivers the spinning leg drop. Back in the ring, RVD flips onto Ambrose and goes for the cover, but Ambrose kicks out at two. RVD rolls up Ambrose, but Ambrose kicks out at two again. RVD comes off the ropes, but Ambrose counters with a spine-buster. Ambrose goes for the cover, but RVD kicks out at two. Ambrose slams RVD to the mat and goes up top, but RVD moves out of the way. RVD goes up top, but Rollins distracts him. Ambrose rolls RVD up, but he kicks out at two. RVD plants Ambrose and connects with Rolling Thunder. RVD connects with the Five-Star Frogsplash, but Reigns takes him down with a Spear, and the referee calls for the bell.
Winner via disqualification: Rob Van Dam.
After the match, The Shield escapes through the crowd as RVD, Henry, and Show look on.
We go back to the Superstar Panel, and Booker is displeased with the outcome. Michaels says Show and Henry weren’t as quick as Reigns and Rollins and weren’t able to help RVD as quickly. Vickie says she is excited about the Divas action tonight. Booker laughs and she asks him what he problem is. Michaels says they need to watch it. We go back to the Social Media Lounge and Renee Young shows us a few Touts from some of the WWE Universe.
We go back to Cole, JBL, and Lawler. The Ring of Fire Match will kick off the show tonight. We see the video hype package for the feud between Kane and The Wyatt Family. We see half of the ring surrounded by fire as the Kickoff Show comes to an end.
We go into the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California. We hear The Miz’s music, and he is already on the stage. He runs down the two main events for the night: CM PUnk vs. Brock Lesnar and John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan. He is about to kick the show off, but Fandango and Summer Rae interrupt. They dance around The Miz, and he end it with “Welcome to SummerSlam!”
We see the opening video for SummerSlam, which focuses on the feud between John Cena and Daniel Bryan and CM Punk and Brock Lesnar, and then go back into the arena where Michael Cole, John Bradshaw Layfield, and Jerry Lawler welcome us to the show.
Jo Jo sings the National Anthem.
Ring of Fire Match: Bray Wyatt (w/Erick Rowan and Luke Harper) vs. Kane
I apologize, folks. There was a power surge in my apartment complex and I missed the first few minutes of this match. I catch up and I see the flames rise every time Rowan and Harper get close to the ring. Kane delivers a choke slam to Wyatt. Harper and Rowan place a tarp over the flames and get into the ring and begin beating down Kane. Rowan splashes Kane in the middle of the ring as Wyatt is down in the corner. They hand Kane to Wyatt. He kisses Kane on the forehead and delivers his finisher. Wyatt gets the pin fall on Kane.
Winner: Bray Wyatt.
After the match, The Wyatt Family stands tall over Kane. Rowan and Harper place Kane on the steel steps and then smash his head in between the top and bottom steps as Wyatt looks on. Rowan and Harper pick Kane up and drag him away while following Wyatt to the back.
Again, my apologies for missing the first few minutes of this match. As I said, there was a power surge in my apartment complex, and I was without power from the time the Wyatts made their entrance until right before Kane chokeslammed Wyatt.
We see a video package for WWE 2K14, which will be released in October.
We go to the Superstar Panel, and Josh Mathews reintroduces Booker T, Shawn Michaels, and Vickie Guerrero. Booker says what just went down was disturbing. Michaels said is was scary and Vickie says that’s not how she runs Smackdown. Mathews tosses it back down to Cole, JBL, and Lawler.
We go back to the Kickoff Show and revisit Paul Heyman’s interview where he announced that Brock Lesnar vs. CM Punk will no be a No Disqualification Match.
Cody Rhodes vs. Damien Sandow
They tie up and Sandow backs Rhodes into the corner. Sandow delivers a series of right hands, but Rhodes comes back and delivers a back-body drop to Sandow. Rhodes goes for the cover, but Sandow kicks out at two. Sandow comes back and sends Rhodes to the outside. Sandow sends Rhodes back-first into the ring apron. Back in the ring, Sandow suplexes Rhodes and goes for the cover, but Rhodes kicks out at two. Rhodes grabs Sandow and goes for Cross Rhodes, but Sandow flips him over. Sandow takes Rhodes down with a Side-Russian leg-sweep. Sandow delivers the Cobito Acquiet and goes for the cover, but Rhodes kicks out at two. Sandow applies a submission in the middle of the ring, but Rhodes reverses. Sandow stays on the offensive and showboats around the ring. Sandow goes up top, but Rhodes stops him and delivers a few headbutts. Rhodes suplexes Sandow down to the mat and goes for the cover, but Sandow kicks out at two. Rhodes sends Sandow to the ropes and charges, but Sandow sends him to the apron. Rhodes shoves Sandow away and delivers a missile dropkick to Sandow. Rhodes goes for the Disaster Kick, but Sandow reverses and sends Rhodes into the ropes with a drop-toe hold. Sandow connects with a neck-breaker and goes for the cover, but Rhodes kicks out at two. Rhodes comes back and rolls Sandow up, but Sandow kicks out at two. Rhodes delivers the Disaster Kick and goes for the cover, but Sandow kicks out at two again. Rhodes charges Sandow in the corner, but Sandow moves and Rhodes goes shoulder-first into the ring post. Sandow rolls Rhodes up, but Rhodes kicks out at two. Rhodes comes back and hits Cross Rhodes out of nowhere for the pin fall.
Winner: Cody Rhodes.

World Heavyweight Championship Match – Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. Christian
Del Rio drops Christian with a right hand and then locks in a headlock. Christian slaps Del Rio across the face and sends him to the outside. Christian goes after him, but Del Rio rolls back into the ring. Christian delivers a neck-breaker over the top rope and then goes for a head-scissors out of the corner. Del Rio counters and delivers a big kick to Christian. Del Rio stomps away on Christian in the corner. Del Rio goes for the cover, but Christian kicks out at two. Christian kicks Del Rio in the midsection and charges at Del Rio, but Del Rio sends Christian down to the mat. Del Rio works over Christian’s shoulder. Del Rio jumps off the second rope and stomps on his shoulder. Del Rio goes for the cover, but Christian kicks out at two. Del Rio charges at Christian, but Christian moves and Del Rio flies to the outside. Christian goes up top and dives off and takes Del Rio down on the floor. Back in the ring, they slug it out. Del Rio gains the advantage and stomps away on Christian. Christian comes back and delivers a right hand that sends Del Rio down to the mat. Christian delivers a missile dropkick from the top and goes for the cover, but Del Rio kicks out at two. Christian delivers a series of right hands, but Del Rio goes for the kick. Christian moves and delivers a cross-body. Christian goes for the cover, but Del Rio kicks out at two. Christian goes for the Killswitch, but Del Rio counters and delivers the backstabber. Del Rio goes for the cover, but Christian kicks out at two. Del Rio delivers a dropkick in the corner and goes for the cover, but Christian kicks out at two. Christian fights back and goes for the cover, but Del Rio kicks out at two. Del Rio sets Christian up in the corner, but Christian counters with a dropkick. Christian goes for the cover, but Del Rio kicks out at two. Christian sets up for the Spear, but Del Rio dropkicks him in the face. Del Rio goes for the cover, but Christian kicks out at two. Christian trips Del Rio into the ropes and delivers the uppercut, but Del Rio rolls Christian up and gets a two count. Del Rio lowers the knee brace, but Christian rolls him up and Del Rio kicks out at two. Christian hits the Spear, but Del Rio grabs Christian for the cross arm-breaker. Christian tries to fight out, but he taps out.
Winner and still World Heavyweight Champion: Alberto Del Rio.
After the match, Renee Young asks Del Rio if he is proud of his victory. He says this is a proud night because he is still the Champion and the one representing the Latinos. He says they need a hero to look up to, and they have one in Alberto Del Rio.
We see a video highlighting the partnership between the WWE and the National Guard.
We take a look back at Axxess, where Natalya and Maria Menounos defeated Eva Marie and Brie Bella. We go backstage and The Miz is with Menounos. They talk about Total Divas and then Fandango and Summer Rae interrupt and dance around them. we then see another preview for Total Divas.
Brie Bella (w/Eva Marie and Nikki Bella) vs. Natalya (w/Cameron and Naomi)
Natalya and Brie exchange slaps and Natalya goes for the Sharpshooter, but Brie gets to the ropes. Natalya falls to the outside and Brie delivers a dropkick to send her to the floor. Back in the ring, Brie stomps away on Natalya. Brie drops Natalya with a clothesline and then applies a submission. Natalya reverses and locks in the Sharpshooter. Brie counters and sends Natalya into the corner. Brie stomps away on Natalya as the women on the outside begin to brawl. They separate and Brie works over Natalya’s arm in the middle of the ring. Brie knees Natalya in the chest and delivers a kick. Natalya slams Brie to the mat and locks in the Sharpshooter again and Brie taps out.
We see video from earlier today showing Ryback intimidating a catering worker and complaining that the soup is cold. Ryback dumps the soup over the guy’s head and walks away.
We see the video hype package for the CM Punk/Brock Lesnar feud.
No Disqualification Match: Brock Lesnar (w/Paul Heyman) vs. CM Punk
Lesnar backs Punk into the corner as Punk swings wildly. Lesnar stomps Punk down in the corner and then tosses him across the ring. Lesnar chokes Punk in the corner, but Punk comes back and dropkicks Lesnar out of the ring. Punk flies over the ropes and takes Lesnar down on the outside. Punk grabs the steps, but Lesnar runs into them and bounces them off of Punk. Lesnar goes to slam Punk into the ring post, but Punk counters and shoves Lesnar face-first into it. Punk goes up top and dives to take Lesnar down on the outside. Punk clotheslines Lesnar from the announce table and goes after Heyman. Lesnar comes back and takes Punk down on the outside. Lesnar tosses Punk over the announce table and then into the barricade. Lesnar slams the table cover onto Punk. Lesnar jumps onto the table cover, which was on top of Punk. Punk tries to come back, but Lesnar slams him down to the mat. Lesnar takes Punk to the corner and drives his shoulder into Punk’s midsection. Lesnar applies a bear-hug. Punk elbows Lesnar in the face, but Lesnar slams Punk to the mat and drives his knee into Punk’s midsection. Punk comes back and gets Lesnar down to one knee and goes up top. Punk dives, but Lesnar catches him and tosses him across the ring. Lesnar works over Punk’s back and slams him to the mat. Lesnar goes for the cover, but Punk kicks out at two. Lesnar gets Punk in a headlock, but Punk fights to his feet. Punk bites Lesnar’s ear and delivers a few kicks. Punk delivers some rights and lefts and dives off the top to take Lesnar down. Punk delivers the high knee in the corner. He delivers a second one and goes for a third, but Lesnar catches him. Lesnar goes for the F-5, but Punk counters with a roundhouse kick. Punk delivers the Macho Man Elbow from the top and goes for the cover, but Lesnar kicks out at two. Punk goes for the GTS, but Lesnar reverses and goes for the F-5. Punk kicks Lesnar again and goes for the GTS, but Lesnar fights out and locks in the Kimora Lock. Punk fights out and goes for an arm-bar. Punk locks in a Triangle Submission on Lesnar, but Lesnar delivers a power-bomb. Punk still has it locked in, but Lesnar counters again. Lesnar delivers another power bomb and both men are down. Lesnar goes for the cover, but Punk kicks out at two. Lesnar drops Punk with a series of suplexes and goes for the cover, but Punk kicks out at two. Lesnar goes to the outside and grabs a steel chair. Punk launches himself to the outside and onto Lesnar and the chair. Punk grabs the chair and hits Lesnar with it repeatedly. Back in the ring, Lesnar takes the chair from Punk, but Punk delivers a low-blow. Punk goes up top with the steel chair and he jumps off the ropes and nails Lesnar in the face with the chair. Punk goes for the cover, but Lesnar kicks out at two. Punk hits Lesnar with the chair again and goes to swing it again, but Heyman grabs it. Lesnar hits PUnk and goes for the F-5, but Punk fights out. Punk hits the GTS and goes for the cover, but Heyman breaks up the count at two. Lesnar goes for the F-5, but Punk reverses into a DDT. Punk goes for the cover, but Lesnar kicks out at two. Punk locks in the Anaconda Vice, but Heyman brings a chair into the ring. Punk grabs Heyman and locks in the Anaconda Vice on him. Lesnar breaks it up and hits Punk with the chair. Lesnar picks Punk up and hits the F-5 onto the chair. Lesnar rolls into the pin fall and wins the match.
Winner: Brock Lesnar.
Mixed Tag Team Match: Big E Langston and AJ Lee vs. Dolph Ziggler and Kaitlyn
Langston and Ziggler start the match and Langston drops an elbow on him. Langston holds Ziggler in the corner and AJ slaps him across the face. Ziggler comes back and delivers a dropkick that sends Langston to the corner. AJ tags in. Kaitlyn delivers a back-breaker to AJ. AJ comes back and slams Kaitlyn to the mat and goes for the cover, but Kaitlyn kicks out at two. AJ stays in control until Kaitlyn backs her into the corner. AJ kicks Kaitlyn in the midsection and comes off the ropes, but Kaitlyn takes her down with a shoulder tackler. Langston and Ziggler get back into the ring. Ziggler delivers a neck-breaker and then drops ten elbows. Ziggler sends Langston to the corner, but AJ grabs his leg. Kaitlyn takes AJ down with a Spear and Langston drops Ziggler. Langston goes for the cover, but Ziggler kicks out at two. Langston goes for the Big Ending, but Ziggler counters and hits the Zigzag for the pin fall.
Winners: Dolph Ziggler and Kaitlyn.
We see a preview for WWE 2K14.
We go backstage and see The Miz. He is interrupted by Fandango and Summer Rae again, but this time Miz decks him and we go back into the arena.
We go to the Superstar Panel. Michaels, Booker, and Vickie all say that Bryan is their pick. Michaels thanks Lesnar and Punk for their match.
We see the video hype package for the John Cena/Daniel Bryan feud.
WWE Championship Match (w/Triple H as Special Referee Match) – John Cena (c) vs. Daniel Bryan
Cena takes Bryan down with a headlock, but Bryan fights back to his feet. They lock up and Cena takes Bryan down again. Bryan counters with a monkey flip and goes for the Yes Lock, but Cena rolls to the outside. Cena gets Bryan in a headlock again and then takes him down to the mat. Bryan comes off the ropes, but Cena rolls him up and gets a one count. Bryan backslides Cena down and gets a two count. Bryan takes Cena down, but then it ends in a stalemate. Bryan goes for the surfboard submission, but Cena powers out. Cena tosses Bryan to the outside and Bryan hits the announce table hard. Back in the ring, Cena decks Bryan with a right hand. Cena elbows Bryan in the corner and then slams him to the mat. Cena goes for the cover, but Bryan kicks out at two. Bryan comes back and kicks Cena down in the corner. Bryan backs away and charges, but Cena counters. Bryan drops Cena with a flying clothesline. Bryan kicks Cena in the chest and goes for the big kick, but Cena ducks and unleashes the Five Moves of Doom on Bryan. Cena goes for the Five-Knuckle Shuffle, but Bryan moves. Bryan goes for the Yes Lock, but Cena fights out. Cena comes back and hits the Five-Knuckle Shuffle and sets up for the AA now. Bryan fights out and delivers a dropkick from the top rope. Bryan goes for the cover, but Cena kicks out at two. Bryan begins to work over Cena’s injured elbow. Bryan kicks Cena on the back a couple times, but Cena trips him and goes for the STF. Bryan reverses and locks the STF in on Cena. Cena fights out, but Bryan delivers a suplex. Bryan goes for the cover, but Cena kicks out at two. Bryan locks Cena in the Yes Lock, but Cena gets free. Bryan locks Cena in a face-lock, but Cena backs Bryan into the corner. Cena hits the AA and goes for the cover, but Bryan kicks out at two. Cena goes up top and Bryan goes up after him. Bryan delivers a superplex to Cena and hangs on to the ropes. Bryan delivers the diving headbutt from the top and goes for the cover, but Cena kicks out at two. Cena rolls out of the ring. Bryan goes after Cena, but Cena counters and drops Bryan to the mat. Cena goes up top again. Cena hits the leg drop and goes for the cover, but Bryan kicks out at two. Cena sets Bryan on the top rope and sets up for an AA, but Bryan elbows his way out of it. Bryan goes for a hurricanrana, but Cena holds him up. Cena shoves Bryan down and locks in the STF. Bryan counters and locks in the Yes Lock. Cena gets to the ropes and Bryan has to break the hold. Bryan dropkicks Cena in the corner and goes for it again, but then Cena counters with a huge clothesline out of the corner. Both men struggle to their feet. They exchange rapid right hands and Bryan goes to the ropes. Bryan goes for a moonsault, but Cena catches him. Cena goes for the AA, but Bryan reverses into a DDT. Bryan goes for a cross-body, but Cena catches him. Cena goes for the AA, but Bryan rolls him up for a two count. Bryan kicks Cena in the side of the head and gears up for another one and connects and gets the pin fall.
Winner and NEW WWE Champion: Daniel Bryan.
After the match, Cena and Bryan shake hands. Bryan shakes hands with Triple H as well as confetti begins to fall from the rafters.
Randy Orton’s music hits and he marches to the ring with the Money in the Bank briefcase. Orton stops short of the ring, holds the briefcase over his head, and turns around and walks away. Bryan celebrates and Orton stops walking. Triple H pedigrees Daniel Bryan. Orton hands Triple H the briefcase.
WWE Championship Match: Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton
Orton pins Bryan after a pedigree from Triple H and wins the WWE Championship.
Orton holds the title overhead as Triple H claps for him.
Orton and Triple H stand tall in the ring as Bryan is down and out as the camera fades to black.
