11/9/13 Smackdown Recap (RVD vs. Orton, Christian vs. Del Rio)

We see the Smackdown opening video and the go into the arena in Rockford, Illinois, where Michael Cole welcomes us to the show and Randy Orton’s music hits.

Match #1: Randy Orton vs. Rob Van Dam
They tie up and RVD sends Orton off the ropes. Orton takes RVD down with a shoulder block, and RVD comes right back with a kick. Down on the mat, Orton gets RVD in a headlock. RVD fights to his feet, but Orton takes him down with a dropkick. Orton goes for the cover, but RVD kicks out at two. RVD comes back and dropkicks Orton and then charges at him against the ropes, but Orton ducks and RVD goes over the top and to the floor. Orton goes out after him, but RVD slams Orton into the steel steps. RVD slams Orton on the barricade and rolls into the ring. RVD gets on the apron and delivers a spinning leg-drop to Orton. Both men are down on the outside as we head to a commercial break.
We’re back and Orton is in control in the ring. Orton takes RVD to the corner and delivers a series of right hands. Orton tosses RVD into the opposite corner and charges, but RVD counters with an elbow. RVD goes to the top, but Orton shoves him to the outside. Orton drops RVD back-first onto the barricade and then tosses him back into the ring. Orton goes for the cover, but RVD kicks out at two. Orton applies a headlock down on the mat, but RVD fights back. RVD slams Orton to the mat and connects with the split-leg moonsault. RVD goes for the cover, but Orton kicks out at two. RVD goes up top and takes Orton down again. RVD goes for the cover, but Orton kicks out at two again. RVD goes for the monkey flip, but Orton counters and delivers a neck-breaker from the middle rope. Orton rolls into the cover, but RVD kicks out at two. Orton drops RVD with a couple clotheslines and then the powerslam. Orton goes for the cover, but RVD kicks out at two. Orton sets RVD up in the ropes for the middle-rope DDT, but RVD counters with a suplex and goes for the cover, but Orton kicks out at two. Orton tosses RVD to the apron and delivers a dropkick. RVD falls on the apron and Orton grabs him. Orton delivers the middle-rope DDT and sets up for the RKO. Orton goes for the RKO, but RVD counters and rolls up Orton with a two count. RVD kicks Orton down and delivers the Rolling Thunder. RVD goes up top and goes for the Five-Star Frogsplash, but Orton rolls out of the way. Orton hits the RKO and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Randy Orton.

We see that Alberto Del Rio and Christian will go one-on-one later tonight, and that MizTV will happen after the commercial breaks, with guests AJ Lee and Big E. Langston.

We take a look at the WWE Rewind, which focuses on the on-going feud between Kaitlyn and the newly-formed duo of AJ Lee and Kaitlyn. We go into the arena, where The Miz is already in the ring to host MizTV. He brings out AJ Lee and Big E. Langston. Miz asks AJ what the relationship between her and Big E. is. AJ says Big E. is a good friend and is always there for her and says he is her best friend. Miz does his “Really?” bit and tells her that she has made a lot of friends in the WWE, like John Cena, Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Kane, and Dolph Ziggler. AJ says he doesn’t know how many times she’s had her heart broken. Miz says maybe the problem is AJ. She says no and they all deserved what they got. She says they tricked her into falling in love with them and then left her. AJ says Kaitlyn left her, too. AJ says the Divas Championship will never leave her. AJ says it is going to be with her forever like Dolph Ziggler did. Ziggler’s music hits and he comes to the ring. Ziggler says women have never been able to get over him. AJ says he is out here because he is not over her and is sad because he will never be able to touch her again. Kaitlyn’s music hits and she comes to the ring. She says AJ cost her and Dolph their titles and wants to know why AJ is so obsessed with them. Ziggler says nobody even cares about AJ and Big E. anymore. They begin to argue and The Miz yells that this is his show. He says since he is the host of SummerSlam he is going to make a match right now. He says AJ Lee and Big E. Langston will team up to take on Kaitlyn and Dolph Ziggler. Kaitlyn says she can’t wait to slap the crazy off of AJ’s face, and AJ attacks her. Big E. pulls Kaitlyn off of AJ and Ziggler drops him with the Zigzag and Kaitlyn spears AJ. The segment ends with Kaitlyn and Ziggler standing tall in the ring.

We see that Daniel Bryan and Wade Barrett will go one-on-one later tonight, and see that we will revisit what happened on this past Monday’s Raw between CM Punk, Brock Lesnar, and Paul Heyman after the commercial break.

We’re back and we take a look at the Raw Rebound, which focuses on the on-going feud between CM Punk and Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar. We see that we will get an exclusive interview with Brock Lesnar later tonight.

We see Alberto Del Rio and Vickie Guerrero backstage. He wants to know why he has to face Christian tonight when he has to face him at SummerSlam. She says she gave him the opportunity to pick his opponent, and he disrespected her when he picked Ricardo Rodriguez. He says forget about Ricardo and wants to know what happens if he gets hurt. She says that’s a risk she’s willing to take.

Match #2: Fandango (w/Summer Rae) vs. Kofi Kingston
Fandango tosses Kingston into the corner, but Kingston fights out with some kicks. Fandango takes Kingston down with a shoulder block, but Kingston comes back and splashes Fandango in the corner. Kingston charges at Fandango, but Fandango elevates him over the top rope and to the floor. Fandango goes out after him and delivers a suplex. Fandango tosses Kingston back into the ring and delivers a series of right hand. Fandango sends Kingston off the ropes and takes him down with a back elbow. Fandango goes for the cover, but Kingston kicks out at two. Fandango gets Kingston in a headlock, but Kingston fights out. Fandango tries to suplex Kingston, but Kingston counters. Fandango charges Kingston in the corner, but Kingston moves and Fandango goes shoulder-first into the ring post. Kingston drops Fandango with a dropkick and then a flying clothesline. Kingston goes for the Boom Drop, but Fandango rolls out of the ring. Kingston takes him down with a baseball slide and then goes up top as Summer Rae checks on Fandango. Kingston jumps over Summer and takes down Fandango. Summer grabs her ankle and screams as Kingston and he goes to apologize, but Fandango slams him into the ring post. Summer gets to her feet as Fandango tosses Kingston back into the ring. Fandango climbs to the top and connects with the leg drop and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Fandango.

We see Daniel Bryan walking backstage when Renee Young stops him. Renee wants to get his thoughts about the Corporate Makeover from Monday. Bryan says that was the breaking point and he has never changed to get to his spot in the WWE. He says he will change WWE history when he beats John Cena for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam. He says the beard is still here and walks toward the arena. He will take on Wade Barrett after the commercial break.

Match #3: Daniel Bryan vs. Wade Barrett
Barrett beats down Bryan and takes him to the corner. Barrett tosses Bryan to the other corner and charges, but Bryan goes over the top of Barrett. Bryan comes off the ropes and takes Barrett down. Bryan delivers a series of kicks to Barrett and runs toward the ropes, but Barrett sends him to the outside. Barrett goes out after him and tosses him into the steel steps. Barrett tosses Bryan into the ring and goes for the cover, but Bryan kicks out at two. Barrett chokes Bryan over the middle rope and knees him in the head. Barrett kicks Bryan in the face and Bryan falls onto the apron. Barrett goes for the cover, but Bryan kicks out at two. Barrett applies a submission down on the mat, but Bryan fights out. Barrett places Bryan in the corner and charges, but Bryan moves out of the way. Barrett grabs Bryan and delivers the Winds of Change and goes for the cover, but Bryan kicks out at two. Barrett goes to the outside and grabs a pair of hair clippers, but Bryan kicks them out of his hand. Bryan delivers a knee shot to Barrett’s face and tosses him back into the ring. Bryan goes up top and delivers the diving headbutt. Bryan locks in the Yes Lock and Barrett taps out.
Winner: Daniel Bryan.

We go backstage and Renee Young is with Damien Sandow. We see the footage of Cody Rhodes tossing Sandow’s Money in the Bank briefcase into the Gulf of Mexico. He says Rhodes is a thief, he destroyed his briefcase, and they will settle their differences at SummerSlam. Sandow shows the new and improved Sandow-ized Money in the Bank briefcase, made out of steel. He tells Alberto Del Rio to watch his back, because whenever he chooses he will become the World Heavyweight Champion of the unwashed masses.

We are reminded that Alberto Del Rio and Christian will go one-on-one later tonight. We see Kane walking backstage. He is in action after the commercial break.

We’re back and we see a video package highlighting the feud between Kane and The Wyatt Family, and it ends with Kane challenging Bray Wyatt to a match inside a ring of fire.

Match #4: 3-on-1 Handicap Match – 3MB (Drew McIntyre, Heath Slater, and Jinder Mahal) vs. Kane
Kane takes all three men down with uppercuts and clotheslines Slater in the corner. Mahal takes Kane down with a kick and 3MB takes control for a bit. Kane drops Slater with a big boot and then tosses all three guys over the top rope. Kane drops McIntyre with a right hand and slams Mahal into the announce table. Kane places Slater on the ring apron and slams McIntyre into the steel steps. Kane tosses Slater over the announce table and gets into the ring with Mahal. Kane delivers a chokeslam to Mahal and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Kane.
After the match, we see The Wyatt Family appear on the TitanTron. Wyatt says he likes Kane’s style, but says they are a bit disconnected. Wyatt asks Kane if he really thinks a simple fire can control the souls of his brothers. Wyatt says the fire will rise up around Kane and the tables will be turned. Wyatt says Kane’s fire fears him and it can never, ever hurt him. Wyatt tells Kane that he is already dead and laughs. Kane ends the segment with his flames shooting out of the ring posts as we head to a commercial.

We’re back and we see the exclusive interview with Brock Lesnar. Lesnar says this is personal between he and CM Punk. He says he has never liked Punk. He says Punk is a joke and the only reason he has allowed him to exist for this long is out of respect for Paul Heyman. Lesnar says Punk is not a tough guy. Lesnar says he has nothing to be jealous of. Lesnar says he was the Undisputed WWE Champion when Punk was wrestling for 100 people in high school gyms. He says Punk holding the title for 434 days was impressive, but he has never faced anyone like Lesnar. Lesnar says size does matter, and at SummerSlam Punk is going to learn what it means to be victimized by Brock Lesnar. The interview ends and we are reminded that CM Punk will go one-on-one on Monday Night Raw this coming week.

Match #5: Alberto Del Rio vs. Christian
Del Rio kicks Christian’s knee, but Christian sends him off the ropes. Del Rio takes Christian down with a shoulder block and goes for the cover, but Christian kicks out at one. Del Rio kicks Christian and drops him with a headbutt. Christian comes back and drops Del Rio with a few shoulder blocks. Christian gets Del Rio in a headlock down on the mat. Del Rio fights to his feet and backs Christian into the corner. Del Rio takes Christian down to the mat with a snapmare. Christian gets to his feet and Del Rio charges at him, but Christian trips him into the ropes. Del Rio charges at Christian again, but Christian tosses him out to the floor. Christian dropkicks Del Rio into the announce table as we head to a commercial.
We’re back and Christian delivers a series of right hands to Del Rio in the corner. Christian goes for a DDT from the top rope, but Del Rio tosses him to the mat. Del Rio goes for the cover, but Christian kicks out at two. Del Rio charges at Christian in the corner, but Christian moves. Del Rio slides to the outside and trips Christian up. Del Rio goes to wrap Christian’s legs around the ring post, but Christian pulls Del Rio into the ring post. Christian jumps off the top rope, but Del Rio slams Christian into the barricade. Back in the ring, Del Rio goes for a cover, but Christian kicks out at two. Del Rio tosses Christian down to the mat and then kicks him in the head. Christian is on the apron, and Del Rio goes to the outside and kicks him in the head again. Del Rio knees Christian on the back and hangs him in the tree of woe. Del Rio kicks Christian and then slaps him across the face. Christian slaps Del Rio back and goes up top. Del Rio cuts him off and they battle on the top rope. They shove each other in opposite directions and both men hit the floor hard as we head to a commercial.
We’re back and Del Rio is in control. He drops Christian with an elbow shot and goes for the cover, but Christian kicks out at two. Del Rio rolls to the outside for a breather as Christian is down in the ring. Del Rio comes back and climbs to the top, but Christian cuts him off. Christian delivers a hurricanrana from the top rope and goes for the cover, but Del Rio kicks out at two. They exchange right hands on the mat and Del Rio backs Christian into the corner. Del Rio charges, but Christian gets his boots up. Christian takes Del Rio down with a missile dropkick and then delivers an uppercut. Christian connects with a cross-body from the top rope and goes for the cover, but Del Rio kicks out at two. Christian delivers a back elbow from the middle rope that sends Del Rio down to the mat. Christian goes for the Killswitch, but Del Rio counters with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Del Rio goes for the cover, but Christian kicks out at two. Del Rio takes Christian to the corner and charges, but Christian counters with a kick. Christian goes for the roll-up, but Del Rio rolls through. Del Rio goes for a kick, but Christian counters and goes for the Killswitch. Del Rio counters and hits the backstabber for a two count. Del Rio goes to kick Christian in the head, but Christian ducks under and delivers the Spear. Christian goes for the cover, but Del Rio kicks out at two. Christian goes for another Spear, but Del Rio moves and slams Christian shoulder-first into the ring post. Del Rio goes for the cross arm-breaker, but Christian rolls through and rolls Del Rio up for a two count. Del Rio kicks Christian in the back of the head and drags him to the center of the ring. Del Rio goes for the cross arm-breaker, but Christian rolls through and rolls up Del Rio for the pin fall.
Winner: Christian.
After the match, Del Rio goes crazy and complains to the referee. Del Rio gets back into the ring and goes after Christian, but Christian drops him with Killswitch. Smackdown comes to a close with Christian walking to the back and Del Rio laid out int he ring… or does it?

Damien Sandow’s music hits and he brings a referee to the ring. He goes to cash in the briefcase, but Cody Rhodes interferes and takes down Sandow with a cross-body. Rhodes lays out Sandow with Cross Rhodes. Smackdown comes to a close with Rhodes walking to the back and Sandow and Del Rio laid out in the ring.
