8/1 Impact Wrestling Recap: The person behind #August1Warning revealed

Before Impact goes on the air, we see two security guys outside and they tell Taz that he cannot go into the arena. It transitions into the beginning portion of the show. Taz says he is pissed off about it and tells the guys they will be working at a pizzeria in Brooklyn somewhere because he is calling somebody.
We see a “Previously on Impact Wrestling” video package, which focuses on Manki winning the TNA X Division Championship last week, the New Main Event Mafia helping Chris Sabin win the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, and Bully Ray threatening legal action against TNA if the title wasn’t returned to him. We also see Hulk Hogan’s announcement that Sabin will defend the title against Ray on August 15th in a Steel Cage Match. We go live into the arena, where Mike Tenay welcomes us to the show. We see that Austin Aries and A.J. Styles will go one-on-one in the main event later tonight. We then transition into the newest “August 1 Warning” video. Austin Aries’ music hits and he makes his way to the ring.
Aries asks the crowd if they know who he is, and the crowd chants “Austin Aries!” He says we are in the midst of the Bound for Glory Series, and then congratulates Chris Sabin on becoming the TNA World Heavyweight Champion. Aries warms Sabin that he is now the hunted and that Sabin is looking at the man who is going to win the Bound for Glory Series and is going to become the next Champion. Aries says he and A.J. Styles will go one-on-one for the first time later tonight. He says everybody has been dreaming of this match since he returned to TNA. He says they are two of the most gifted wrestlers to ever step foot in a wrestling ring. Aries says it’s the man who put TNA on his back for a decade versus the man who will put TNA on his back for the next decade. Bobby Roode’s music hits, and he makes his way to the ring. Roode grabs a microphone and says let’s talk about nightmares. Roode says he has been living a nightmare since Aries beat him for the World title. Roode says everybody had forgotten what Bobby Roode is capable of doing in the ring. Roode says he is the It Factor of Professional Wrestling, and starting tonight the game is going to change. Roode says he is going to go back to what brought him to the dance the first time. Roode says he only cares about getting the World title back, and he will prove once again that it pays to be Roode. Aries says he agrees with everything that Roode just said. Aries said he hopes Roode gets to the finals of the Bound for Glory Series so he can beat him once again. Aries leaves and Hernandez’s music hits.
Match #1: Bound for Glory Series Match – Bobby Roode vs. Hernandez
Roode attacks Hernandez on the entrance ramp. He tosses him down to the floor as we head to a commercial break.
We’re back and Roode is still in control. Roode sends Hernandez off the ropes and delivers a back elbow. Roode goes for the cover, but Hernandez kicks out at two. Hernandez comes back and drops Roode with a shoulder block and tosses him into the corner. Roode comes off the top, but Hernandez catches him with a shot to the midsection. Hernandez comes out of the corner, but Roode drops him with the Double R Spine-buster and goes for the cover, but Hernandez kicks out at two. Roode tosses Hernandez to the outside and goes out after him. Roode slams Hernandez into the steel steps and tosses him back into the ring. Roode goes for the cover, but Hernandez kicks out at two. Roode gets Hernandez in the corner and delivers a chop. Roode tosses Hernandez into the opposite corner and delivers a clothesline. Roode backs away and charges, but Hernandez gets a boot up. Hernandez goes up top, but Roode cuts him off. Hernandez knocks Roode down to the mat and goes for the Splash, but Roode moves out of the way. Roode locks in the Crossface, but Hernandez powers out. Hernandez slams Roode down to the mat. Hernandez drops Roode with a couple clotheslines and sends him off the ropes. Roode kicks Hernandez and comes off the ropes, but Hernandez drops him with a shoulder block. Hernandez exits the ring and then runs down the entrance ramp and delivers the flying shoulder block over the top rope. Hernandez goes for the Border Toss, but Roode slips out and makes contact with the referee. Roode low-blows Hernandez and rolls him up and grabs the tights, but Hernandez still kicks out at two. Roode goes to the outside and tosses chairs into the ring and smacks the steel steps with one. The referee stops him and tosses the chairs to the outside and Roode grabs a beer bottle and smacks Hernandez in the head with it. Roode goes for the cover, and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Bobby Roode.
We see the New Main Event Mafia walking backstage. Sting says we will find out their offer shortly, and Kurt Angle adds that it’s an offer that the Aces and Eights can’t refuse. Rampage Jackson adds an “Oh yeah!” as we head to a commercial.
We see Kazarian (@FrankieKazarian) live-Tweeting the first hour of Impact Wrestling backstage. We take a look back at some of the highlights of the Roode/Hernandez match from a few moments ago. With the win, Roode jumped into a tie for 8th with Hernandez with seven points.
We see Eric Young and ODB backstage. ODB says she is back in the ring tonight and she is going to beat Gail Kim. Young says he has a full plan for the night and Joseph Park walks up. Park asks him what Twerking is, and Young tells him not to worry about it. Young says when Park bleed, he loses control and loses matches. Young hands him a lunchbox and says he is going to wear what is inside it during his match tonight as they walk away.
We take a look back at the Ultimate X Match last week that featured Manik winning the TNA X Division Champion. We see Chris Sabin walking up to Manik in the back and congratulating him. Manik says he had 15 years of hard work and nothing to show for it, but once he donned the mask, everything changed. Sabin says he respects Manik and that’s why he wanted his first match to be against him.
We see a stretch Hummer driving up to the outside of the arena. Mike Tenay speculates that the man behind the August 1 Warning is inside as we head to a commercial.
Match #2: Bound for Glory Series Match – Jay Bradley vs. Joseph Park (w/Eric Young)
Before the match, Young hands Park some regulation headgear to wear during the match.
Bradley slams Park’s head into the turnbuckle, but Park says he can’t feel it. Bradley punches Park in the stomach and then tries to rip the headgear off. Park tosses Bradley to the mat, but Bradley comes back and takes Park down. Bradley drops a knee and goes for the cover, but Park kicks out at two. Bradley stomps away on Park in the corner and then backs away and charges. Park moves and rolls Bradley up for a two count. Bradley comes back and slams Park down to the mat. Bradley drops a couple elbows and goes for the cover, but Park kicks out at two. Bradley tries to rip the headgear off again, but can’t get it. Bradley elbows Park again and drops a knee to the back of Park’s head. Bradley goes for the cover, but Park kicks out at two. Park comes back and drops Bradley with a couple of clotheslines and then slams him to the mat. Park goes to the middle rope, but Bradley grabs him. Park comes back and locks in the Boston Crab. Bradley gets to the ropes to break the hold. Park charges Bradley in the corner, but Bradley gets a boot up. Bradley delivers a back-breaker to Park and then rips the headgear off. Bradley goes for the Boomstick Clothesline, but Park counters with a Fall-a-way Slam. Park goes for the cover, and gets the win and seven points.
Winner: Joseph Park.
We are reminded that the New Main Event Mafia has an offer for Aces and Eights that they cannot refuse. We also see that Chris Sabin and Manik will go one-on-one after the commercial break.
We’re back and we see a video package the campaign to save wrestling as a sport in the Olympics.
We see the New Main Event Mafia backstage. Kurt Angle asks if any of them have any additional knowledge of the August 1 Warning. None of them do, and Sting begins the meeting. Sting says they accomplished the goal of getting the World title away from Bully Ray, and the next part of the plan has a risk. Sting asks them all are willing to risk it, and they all say yes. Angle says they have the offer ready for Aces and Eights, and Rampage Jackson says he came here to fight.
Match #3: Champion vs. Champion Match – Chris Sabin vs. Manik
They tie up and Sabin takes Manik down to the mat. Manik gets up and wrenches Sabin’s arm. They go back and forth and take each other down to the mat. Sabin gets Manik’s shoulders on the mat and gets a two count. Sabin trips up Manik, but Manik spins out of it and they have a standoff as we head to a commercial.
We’re back and Manik drives his shoulder into Sabin’s midsection. Manik grabs Sabin and rolls him up for a two count. Sabin gets Manik and kicks him on the apron and down to the floor. Sabin goes out after him and slams him into the ring apron. Sabin tosses Manik back into the ring and goes for the cover, but Manik kicks out at two. Sabin chokes Manik in the corner with his boot and then delivers a suplex. Sabin goes for the cover, but Manik kicks out at two again. Sabin gets Manik in a headlock down on the mat, and then delivers a kick to Manik’s back. Manik gets to his feet and kicks Sabin down to the mat. Sabin charges Manik in the corner, but Manik moves and takes Sabin down with a head-scissors. Manik delivers a springboard dropkick and goes for the cover, but Sabin kicks out at two. Manik grabs Sabin, but Sabin rolls through and goes for the cover, and Manik kicks out at two. Manik comes back and delivers a powerbomb to Sabin and goes for the cover, but Sabin kicks out at two. Manik goes up top, but Sabin cuts him off. Sabin delivers a chop and a superplex from the top. Sabin goes for the cover, but Manik kicks out at two. Manik comes back and they exchange right hands and chops. Manik delivers some kicks and comes off the ropes, but Sabin delivers a big bott to the face. Sabin goes for Hail Sabin, but Manik fights out and goes for the roll up, but Manik reverses into his own roll up for a two count. Sabin comes off the ropes and delivers a bulldog to Manik. Sabin kicks Manik with a kick and delivers the Hail Sabin for the pin fall.
Winner: Chris Sabin.
After the match, Bully Ray attacks Sabin from behind. He stomps away on him in the corner and then tells him he should have handed him the belt back. Manik tries to stop Ray, but Ray stomps down on him as well. Sabin gets up and fights back and delivers a kick to Ray’s head that plants him. Ray rolls out of the ring as he and Sabin stare each other down.
We get another shot of the stretch limo outside, but Taz interrupts. Taz says he is going to expose August 1 to the world. He opens the door and laughs. He brings the camera around, and we see the August 1 Warning video from earlier tonight being shown on a laptop.
We see ODB and Gail Kim walking backstage. They will go one-on-one after the commercial break.
We’re back and we see James Storm live-Tweeting the second hour of Impact Wrestling. We then take a look back as Taz revealing August 1, but all we see is a laptop playing the latest August 1 Warning video inside the Hummer limo. We are informed that we will see Christopher Daniels vs. Kazarian in a Bound for Glory Series Match next week.
We go backstage and someone tries to get some words from Daniels and Kazarian, but they aren’t having it. They say it’s stupid that the fans got to choose what they want to see. Daniels brags that he is undefeated, while Kazarian hasn’t won, and they begin to argue a bit as Kazarian dumps out Daniels’ apple-tini.
Match #4: Gail Kim vs. ODB
Gail and ODB get face-to-face and Gail shoves ODB to the mat. ODB comes back with a Spear and beats Gail down. Gail rolls to the outside, and ODB walks up the entrance ramp. ODB charges and smashes Gail against the ropes. Gail comes back and shoves ODB away and charges, but ODB moves and Gail hits the ropes. ODB throws Gail back into the ring and goes for the cover, but Gail kicks out at two. ODB gets Gail in the corner, but Gail shoves her away. Gail kicks ODB and then chokes her with her boot in the corner. Gail delivers an elbow shot and comes off the ropes. Gail drops ODB with a dropkick and goes for the cover, but ODB kicks out at two. Gail chokes ODB over the bottom rope. ODB comes back and delivers a few elbows to Gail’s midsection, but Gail keeps control. Gail slams ODB down to the mat and goes for the cover, but ODB kicks out at two. Gail takes ODB to the corner and smashes her. Gail tosses ODB down to the mat and goes for the cover, but ODB kicks out at two. ODB fights back, but Gail shoves her into the corner. Gail charges, but ODB moves out of the way and drops Gail with a few shoulder blocks. ODB drops Gail with a Fall-a-way Slam and then a running powerslam. ODB goes for the cover, but Gail kicks out at two. ODB charges Gail in the corner, but Gail counters. ODB sends Gail out to the floor, but Gail grabs her and goes for the Figure Four around the ring post. ODB slams Gail head-first into the ring post. ODB goes out after Gail, but Gail slams her into the steel steps. The referee calls for the bell as Gail beats ODB down on the outside.
Match Result: Double Countout.
After the match, the girls keep scrapping on the outside and the referees can’t keep them separated.
We see A.J. Styles backstage. He says the dream match is a bunch of B.S. He says he is not that hopeful kid that he used to be. He says the Bound for Glory Series is about the title and the money. He says there’s no place for dreams, and he will become Austin Aries’ nightmare tonight. The match will happen after the commercial break.
We see a few seconds of the latest August 1 Warning video before the commercial break.
We’re back and we see Aces and Eights backstage. Bully Ray says he is not obsessing over the New Main Event Mafia, but he is obsessing over Chris Sabin and getting his title back. He tells Mr. Anderson he is in charge of taking care of the Main Event Mafia. Ray goes to leave, but Brooke Hogan stops him. She says the contract he is supposed to sign next week may not be in his favor and he wants to know what she means. She doesn’t tell him.
We see that Samoa Joe and Jeff Hardy will go one-on-one in a Bound for Glory Series Match next week, as will Mr. Anderson and Magnus.
Match #5: Bound for Glory Series Match – A.J. Styles vs. Austin Aries
They tie up and back each other into the corner. They separate and Styles grabs Aries for a headlock. Aries sends Styles off the ropes, and Styles takes Aries down to the mat. Styles gets Aries in a headlock, but Aries escapes and goes to the entrance ramp. They tie up again and Styles wrenches Aries’ arm, but Aries comes back and drops an elbow across Styles’ chest. Styles comes back and goes for the Calf Killer, but Aries fights out and goes for a front face-lock. Aries gets Styles in a headlock, but Styles sends him to the outside. Styles connects with a sledge from the ring apron that drops Aries to the floor as we go to a commercial.
We’re back and Styles in still in control. Styles sends Aries off the ropes and delivers a huge dropkick. Styles drops Aries back to the mat and kicks him in the back. Styles delivers an elbow shot to Aries’ neck and goes behind him. Styles applies the Full Nelson and then slams Aries down to the mat. Aries rolls to the outside and Styles goes out after him. Styles slams Aries into the apron and tosses him back into the ring. Styles applies a headlock to Aries, but Aries fights out. Styles sends Aries into the corner and charges, but Aries counters with an elbow. Aries connects with the discus forearm and a clothesline off the ropes. Aries delivers a few elbow shots and then backslides him for a two count. Styles sends Aries to the apron and Aries delivers a neck-breaker to Styles on the middle rope. Aries delivers a missile dropkick from the top and then charges in the corner. Aries delivers another dropkick and sets him up in the corner. Aries goes up as well and goes for the superplex, but Styles fights out. Styles delivers a neck-breaker from the corner and goes for a cover, but Aries kicks out at two. Styles goes for the springboard, but Aries moves and delivers knees to Styles’ face. Aries locks in the Last Chancery, but Styles gets free. Styles rolls through and locks in the Calf Killer. Aries counters and delivers the Brain Buster and goes for the cover, but Styles kicks out at two. Aries goes up top and goes for the 450 Splash, but Styles gets his knees up for the counter. Styles clotheslines Aries off the ropes and Aries goes to the ramp. Styles goes for the springboard, but Aries hits the ropes and causes Styles to fall. Styles delivers a front suplex to Aries on the entrance ramp. Styles goes for the Styles Clash on the ramp, but Aries back body drops Styles to the floor. Aries goes for the suicide dive, but Styles moves and Aries hits the steel steps by the ramp and both Styles and Aries are down on the outside. They get back into the ring and Aries drops Styles with a release suplex. Styles comes back with the Pele Kick. They get into a double pin, but Aries gets his shoulder up at the last second while his arm is still drapes across Styles and Aries gets the pin fall.
Winner: Austin Aries.
We see the Main Event Mafia walking to the ring. Their offer for Aces and Eights is after the commercial break.
The Main Event Mafia’s music hits, and Sting, Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, Rampage Jackson, and Magnus make their way to the ring. Sting says they reformed the Main Event Mafia in order to get the title away from Bully Ray and to end Aces and Eights. Sting says they haven’t gotten the fight that they want, and they have an offer that Aces and Eights can’t refuse. Aces and Eights’ music hits and Mr. Anderson, Devon, Knux, Wes Brisco, and Garett Bischoff make their way to the entrance ramp. Anderson says Angle ended up in the back of a pickup truck and says the Main Event Mafia cheats, and that’s the only reason Chris Sabin is the World Champion. Anderson says they can play dirty and they aren’t backing down. Angle says there are some serious consequences. Angle challenges the Aces and Eights to a five-on-five match at Hardcore Justice, where the wrestler who gets pinned in the match has to leave TNA for good. Joe grabs the mic and says this isn’t a negotiation and an all-out brawl breaks out. The Main Event Mafia quickly disposes of Aces and Eights and Anderson accepts the challenge.
The lights go out in the arena and then we see Tito Ortiz walking to the ring. He stops and stares into the ring and everyone stares back at him as Impact Wrestling comes to a close.
