Wrestling By The Numbers: Jay Briscoe

Ring Of Honor Wrestling has parted ways with reigning 1-Time ROH Champion and former 8-Time ROH Tag-Team Champion Jamin ‘Jay Briscoe’ Pugh. The 29-year-old Salisbury Maryland native had spent 9-years working for the company in a tenure that included two separate stints with the organization. Pugh first debuted in ROH in February of 2002 and shortly after formed a tag-team known as The Briscoe Brothers when his real life brother Mark debuted 7-months later. In his first go around with ROH, Jay feuded with his brother and also teamed with Mark competing in memorable battles against the likes of A.J. Styles, The Amazing Red, C.M. Punk, Colt Cabana, Dan Maff and B.J. Whitmer among others. Jay Briscoe didn’t compete in the industry from August of 2004 to September of 2005 as Mark was injured in a motorcycle accident and he decided to not accept any bookings.

After returning to ROH at the company’s 4th Anniversary Show in February of 2006 The Briscoe Brothers would become one of the greatest tag-teams in company history. Memorable feuds and classic matches with likes of The American Wolves, The Kings Of Wrestling and The World’s Greatest Tag-Team would help etch their legacy. Jay Briscoe had held the ROH Championship since defeating Kevin Steen in April at the 2013 Supercard Of Honor pay-per-view event. Ring Of Honor Wrestling announced on June 25th that Jay Briscoe’s contract with the organization had expired and was not being renewed.

Jamin Pugh is a 13-year professional wrestling veteran who first debuted in the year 2000 after having been trained by Eddie Valentine, Glen Osbourne and Jim Kettner. Pugh has mostly been known throughout his career as Jay Briscoe but also run as Kenny Murdoch. Prior to joining ROH he worked for independent organizations including both Combat Zone Wrestling and Jersey All Pro Wrestling. While working for ROH Pugh also had stints competing for TNA Wrestling, Pro Wrestling NOAH, Full Impact Pro and also worked dark matches / tryout matches for World Wrestling Entertainment.
