WWE Hall of Fame 2014 already making news
May 1, 2013 - by Dr. Jerry Wiseman
Speculation has already started as to who might get the nod for the WWE Hall of Fame 2014 class including another name considered to be a long shot, Owen Hart. The WWE has been embroiled in a bitter lawsuit with Martha Hart, the widow of the former WWE Superstar who died in a tragic accident during a PPV after he fell from the rafters when a harness failed as he was to rappel into the ring. Martha Hart has long blamed the WWE and WWE CEO Vince McMahon for the death of her husband and sued the company for improper use of Owen’s likeness as well as back royalties from DVDs featuring his matches. While parts of the lawsuit failed the WWE and Martha Hart did come to an undisclosed settlement over royalties late last month.
With the lawsuit now a non-issue for the WWE there is talk that the company may move forward with a posthumous induction of Hart, long considered to be the best worker of the Hart family. Bret Hart and the patriarch of the family Stu Hart were inducted in 2006 and 2010 respectively.
While Owen Hart may be considered a long-shot this early in the “voting” phase a name that is said to be a lock is the team of Degeneration X. Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Billy Gunn and Brian Armstrong along with Joanie “Chyna” Laurer have been the topic of much conversation of late about the possibility of the group being part of the WWE Hall of Fame next year. There were initial plans to induct the group this year if Bruno Sammartino had turned down his invitation.
Though there were some revolving door members it is believed that Triple H, Michaels, Gunn, Armstrong and Chyna will be the inductees since they were the core group. Chyna, who left the WWE on bitter terms and has often gone on rants using social media to lash out at the WWE, McMahon and Triple H, is said to have been in contact with Chyna of late and the two are amicable to working out an agreement which would bring the former Intercontinental Champion back to the company next year. Chyna has moved on from her career in adult entertainment to teach English to Japanese students. According to Vivid Entertainment if Chyna were to make a return to the adult movie industry she would be welcomed back without hesitation.
The recently deceased Paul Bearer is said to be a sure inductee next year as well.
