  1. MC Live says:

WWE doesn’t own the WCW themes?

  2. Josh Dionio says:

Probably not, except for a few like Booker T and the NWO. I’m guessing Turner had got all the copyrights/ licenses for them and Vince didn’t think to get them until now. He might have bought the tapes/ company but the music probably wasn’t included, which is odd since they use the entrances of a ton of the wrestlers on the WCW dvds.

  3. -J- says:

should get those wcw themes at bargain basement prices.

  4. Skeeter Valentine says:

A lot of WCW themes were 90′s grunge songs just changed enough so that there wasn’t copyright infringement

  5. Daniel says:

That sounds to me like Turner is trying to get permission from WWE to release them, not the other way around. It’s kind of confusing how he worded it though.

  6. Sweet says:

The issue is that WWE never actually bought WCW, but rather, bought WCW’s assets. As a result, any licensing agreements WCW had for theme songs didn’t transfer.

In the case of library music, WWE could simply license the music library themselves. Original themes, however, are another issue. That’s why Michael Hayes’ old songwriting partner is suing WWE over improper use and credit for Badstreet USA and the WCW Slam Jam album themes.
