Paul Bearer’s family gives WWE the ok to proceed with angle

TMZ.COM has a story about Paul Bearer’s family giving their stamp of
approval to go ahead with the whole CM Punk stealing the urn angle during
RAW. Last week, CM Punk interrupted the tribute that WWE was giving to the
late Paul Bearer, who passed away days before the show. Eventually Punk
ended the show stealing the urn and earlier this week he was juggling the
urn like a basketball, even dropping it. Bearer’s two sons were flown in
for RAW last week and were given the scenario and asked for their
blessing. “We felt that dad would have wanted us at RAW last week and
agreed to the angle. We knew Dad wouldn’t have wanted it any other way,”
one of the sons said.

I always get a kick out of it when someone dies and family or friends say “they would have wanted it that way.” How do we know that? What a person wants when they are alive and what they want after they are gone could be totally different. How do we know that Bearer would have wanted this? Maybe he would have liked to have his memory honored without being used in an angle. Or maybe not. We don’t know. Using a real life death in a wrestling angle is just lazy writing. If you have to use a death to get more heat then maybe you aren’t cutting it as a heel. Just my thoughts.

I hope everyone reads this so they’ll stfu about writers lacking sensitivity. They probably had the “green light” on this since the initial tribute interruption.

i’ll be honest i thought it was in bad taste at first. as long as his family is okay with this, i’m okay with it. it adds more to the storyline other than the yearly “beat the streak”. that’s getting kind of old.

@Denis – I agree. It is like how Owen would have wanted the show to go on.

I feel like it kinda works punks character. For a long time he was talking about getting respect, now here he is disrespecting Paul’s memory. Its hypocritical, like a heel should be.
