TNA Lockdown Preview and Predictions
Mar 9, 2013 - by Michael Riba
Tomorrow night, TNA will present us with the ninth-annual Lockdown pay-per-view event. Unlike last editions, only some of the matches will take place inside of a steel cage instead of every single match. Personally, I like it better that way; the less cage matches the better. There are currently eight matches scheduled for the show. Without any further delay, here are my official previews and predictions for the show.
TNA X Division Championship Three-Way Match: Kenny King (c) vs. Christian York vs. Zema Ion
King recently won the title from Rob Van Dam on an edition of Impact Wrestling. Maybe I missed the reason, but I am not sure why RVD didn’t get his rematch here. Instead, we get a three-way match that could be an opener that could get the crowd wound up for the rest of the show (well, most of it anyway). I like the idea of King being the leader of the X Division as the Champ, and hopefully he gets a lengthy reign. I do not see him losing here, or against RVD whenever he gets his rematch.
Prediction: Kenny King retains the TNA X Division Championship.
Joey Ryan vs. Joseph Park
I really do not know what to say about this match. This match seems like it was thrown together to give both of these guys something to do. I feel Park’s character has just about ran its course, and Ryan hasn’t really panned out yet, in my opinion. This match could go either way.
Prediction: Joey Ryan gets the win.
Robbie E vs. Robbie T
Robbie E has gotten the upper-hand on Robbie T recently on Impact Wrestling, after splitting the team up after a few months of tension. I see this being the squash match of the night, and that’s all there really is to say about this match.
Prediction: Robbie T gets the win.
TNA Women’s Knockout Championship Match: Velvet Sky (c) vs. Gail Kim
This was the clear feud that was going to take place since Velvet Sky returned a couple of months ago. This was probably the best option for a Knockouts Match for the card. Two things are on the line tomorrow night; Velvet’s title and Gail’s undefeated record at Lockdown. This has the potential to be a quality Knockouts Match, and I think it will be just that, regardless of the outcome.
Prediction: Velvet Sky retains the TNA Women’s Knockout Championship.
TNA World Tag Team Championship Three-Way Match: Austin Aries and Bobby Roode (c) vs. Bad Influence (Christopher Daniels/Kazarian) vs. Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez
This will be one hell of a tag team match, no doubt about it. These three teams will tear it up, and the crowd will be into the contest throughout its entirety. Both Bad Influence and Chavo and Hernandez has pretty good runs as tag champs, and now it’s Roode and Aries’ turn. While I would rather have both Roode and Aries in the World Heavyweight title picture, I’m curious to see how they will eventually pan out as the Tag Team Champs. I feel like their reign has just begun, and it has a while to go.
Prediction: Austin Aries and Bobby Roode retain the TNA World Tag Team Championship.
Steel Cage Match: Kurt Angle vs. Wes Brisco
Angle always beings his A game, and it’s no different at the Lockdown event. Going against Brisco, this could be the match of the night. It is not clear-cut as to who will win this match. I could see Angle winning to get a little revenge against Brisco and Aces and Eights. I could see Brisco winning to boost his standing within Aces and Eights. There could also be some sort of interference from the other members of Aces and Eights. Expect nothing short of a great one here.
Prediction: Kurt Angle gets the win.
Lethal Lockdown Match: Aces and Eights (Devon/DOC/Garett Bischoff/Mike Knox/Mr. Anderson) vs. Team TNA (Eric Young/James Storm/Magnus/Samoa Joe/Sting
It was revealed last Thursday that D’Lo Brown was the VP of Aces and Eights, and the question “How deep does this go?” loomed over TNA. As Brown is only the VP, who is the President? It will probably take us four or five months to find out, but that’s beside the point. With that question looming, there is really only one way that this match should go. Lethal Lockdown matches, for the mast part, have delivered strongly over the years. This one will likely be no different.
Prediction: Aces and Eights get the win.
TNA World Heavyweight Championship Steel Cage Match: Jeff Hardy (c) vs. Bully Ray
For the longest time, Bully Ray has been on the cusp of his first World Heavyweight Championship. For what seems like the longest time, Jeff Hardy has reigned supreme over the World title picture. I can’t be the only one that is expecting some kind of swerve in this match. It has to happen. How does Hulk Hogan’s son-in-law being the ultimate leader of Aces and Eights sound for a swerve? It could happen, but I hope it doesn’t. I like Bully Ray’s face turn so far, and it should continue in my opinion. These two guys are going to have one hell of a match, and I hope it is one TNA main event that is not tarnished by some kind of ridiculous swerve or bogged down by twenty guys interfering in it. In the end….
Prediction: Bully Ray wins the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.
