2/7/13 Impact Wrestling Recap

Follow along as the Starman recap tonight’s Impact Wrestling broadcast that was pre-taped in Manchester, England.

A “Previously on Impact Wrestling” recap airs that focuses on Hulk Hogan reinstating Bully Ray and booking a tables match with Sting & Ray taking on two members of Aces & Eights. Garett Bischoff and Wes Brisco revealing themselves as members of Aces & Eights and taking out Kurt Angle is also touched upon. We then head into the Machester Arena where the announce team hype tonight’s card that will feature two title matches with the X Division Championship and the Tag Team Championships on the line, and the tables match main event.

Aces & Eights music hits as the gang makes their way to the ring through the crowd. Devon grabs a microphone and says Aces & Eights are kicking in the front door of TNA as we are treated to footage of Kurt Angle’s saga against the group and how Wes Brisco and Garett Bischoff set him up. Devon the introduces Bischoff and Brisco as the new members of Aces & Eights as Bischoff takes the microphone.

Bischoff says Aces & Eights are his new family and Brisco says he joined the group because of Hulk Hogan. Brisco says he never answered his calls for two years even though his father gave Hogan his first pair of wrestling boots. Devon then warns Angle not to come back to TNA, as for Hogan, Devon says they always have a backup plan in regards to their tables match.

Tara and Jessie walk into Brooke Hogan’s office and are unhappy with having to fly coach to get to the UK. Brooke says she doesn’t care about her problems and says Tara will be in a match against Miss Tessmacher and Jessie will be barred from ringside. Tara wonders what she will do without Jessie at her side as we head into a commercial break.

Match 1: Kenny King vs. Zema Ion vs. Rob Van Dam (X Division Championship)
The bell rings as Ion and King work together against RVD in the opening moments. RVD and Ion are then tossed out to the floor as King dives out and lands on RVD. Ion then runs into the ring and leaps over the top rope to take them both out. Ion and King then go in the ring and go at it for a moment until RVD comes back in and Ion rolls out to the floor. RVD and King go at it and King picks up a near fall as Ion comes back in but RVD sends him flying across the ring with a monkey flip. RVD turns his attention to King but Ion leaps off the middle rope and takes RVD down with a tornado DDT for a near fall.

RVD and Ion then go back and forth with a series of counters until RVD misses with a cross body block and flies over the top rope and crashes to the mat. King and Ion square off for a few moments and trade off near falls. King then counters an attempt at a moonsault and hits Ion with a northern lights suplex and goes for a pin but it is broken up by RVD who hits a Five Star Frog Splash. RVD then covers Ion for the pin fall to retain the X Division Championship.

Austin Aries and Bobby Roode are backstage and talking about how they can be unstoppable if they are on the same page. The two talk about being for TNA World Champions and tonight they will be taking the TNA Tag Team Championship home with them. The announce team then hype the tag team match as we head into a commercial break.

Footage of TNA’s UK show called British Boot Camp is aired. Rockstar Spud was declared the winner and we will hear from him later on tonight. We then see a recap of Garett Bischoff’s and Wes Brisco explanation of why they joined Aces & Eights is aired. D’Lo Brown and Bruce Prichard are seen backstage talking backstage and how they didn’t see this coming from Bischoff and Brisco. Prichard says the two will have hell to pay once Angle comes back as we head into a commercial break.

Jessie is in the ring and tells the crowd that Brooke Hogan banned him from ringside but he still plans on giving the people their money’s worth by coming out for a photo opportunity. James Storm’s music hits as he makes his way to the ring with a microphone. Storm says the fans came her not to take pictures but to watch someone get beat up. Storm says he is going to beat the crap out of Jessie and then drink some beer. Storm then calls for a referee so he can whoop the living crap out of him.

Match 2: Jessie vs. James Storm
A referee comes out to get this match started and Jessie gets the early advantage and chokes Storm across the middle rope. Jessie then locks Storm in an abdominal stretch but Storm is able to make a comeback and takes Jessie down with a Russian leg sweep. Storm then hits Jessie with the Eye of the Storm and follows with a neckbreaker. Storm then hits the Closing Time before putting Jessie away with the Last Call superkick as Storm picks up the pin fall. Storm then delivers on his promise and begins drinking beer and spraying it in the crowd.

The announce team hype the rest of tonight’s card as we head into a commercial break.

Match 3: Austin Aries & Bobby Roode vs. Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez (TNA Tag Team Championship)
The bell sounds as Roode and Chavo go back and forth in the opening moments until Chavo takes Roode down with a dropkick. Roode retreats to his corner and Aries tags himself in and Hernandez is also tagged in. Hernandez takes Aries down and lifts him up for a standing suplex but Roode comes in and pulls Aries down. Roode and Aries tries to double team Hernandez but Chavo comes in and the Tag Team Champs double suplex Aries and Roode. Chavo is then tagged back in and he continues working over Aries until Roode trips up Chavo and pulls him out to the floor. Roode holds Chavo as Aries dives through the ropes, however, Chavo escapes and Aries connects with Roode as we head into a commercial break.

We return to the match to see Chavo and Hernandez still in control as Hernandez picks up a near fall over Aries. The champions isolate Aries and work him over with quick tags in and out. A distraction by Roode allows Aries to get back into the match before turning it over to Roode. Roode works over Chavo and picks up a near fall after hitting a clothesline. Aries is then tagged back in and he continues to work over Chavo and goes for a pin attempt but the referee catches Aries trying to use the ropes for leverage. Chavo tries everything to get to his corner but Aries and Roode continue to cut him off until Roode and Chavo take each other down with clotheslines.

Chavo makes the hot tag to Hernandez as Aries is also tagged in. Hernandez takes out both Roode and Aries and goes for a pin attempt but Roode breaks it up. Roode then sacrifices Aries to take a shoulder block from Hernandez but Roode is also taken out by a hard tackle from Hernandez. Chavo then tags into the match as Chavo begins the Three Amigos on Aries. Aries blocks the last attempt and Chavo pushes Aries into Roode. The two begin to argue as Roode tells Aries to kiss his ass before walking away.

Chavo then hits Aries with a final suplex as Hernandez picks up Aries and Chavo heads to the top rope. Roode then comes in and shoves Chavo down as Aries connects with a low blow on Hernandez. Roode then hits a spinebuster on Chavo and Aries hits a 450 splash to pick up the pin fall and win the TNA Tag Team Championship. The win earns Aries a spot in history as he becomes the fifth wrestler to become a Triple Crown Champion by holding the TNA World Championship, TNA Tag Team Championship and X Division Championship.

Sting and Bully Ray are getting themselves fired up backstage as Hulk Hogan walks in. Sting and Brooke Hogan leave the room as Hogan says the match he is in is tailored to him and wants Ray to prove to the whole world that he was wrong and Ray is the good guy he says he is. Ray says he ain’t a good guy and says he hasn’t forgotten what Aces & Eights did to them on his wedding night. Hogan then tells Ray to end things tonight for all of them as we head into a commercial break.

A video package on AJ Styles is aired which focuses on the rough road he has been on over the past several months.

Match 4: Miss Tessmacher vs. Tara
Tara comes out to the ring without Jessie and seems upset over it. She continues to call out for him as the bell rings and Tessmacher tries to put it away early with a quick rollup but Tara kicks out. Tara gains control but her focus is on Jessie as she leaves the ring, however, Tessmacher cuts her off and brings her back into the ring. Tara takes Tessmacher down with a few moves and chokes Tessmacher and picking up a few near falls in the process. Tessmacher finally counters Tara’s offense and takes her down with a hurricanrana. Tessmacher then slams Tara down face first into the mat to pick up the win and end this painfully slow Knockouts match.

The announce team then hype tonight’s tag team tables match as we head into a commercial break.

Jeremy Borash is in the ring and calls out the winner of British Boot Camp, Rockstar Spud. Spud comes out and says he is where he always wanted to be – in the ring in front of thousands of people from his own country. Spud is then cut off by Robbie E’s music as he comes out to the ring with Robbie T. Robbie says him earning a TNA contract was a travesty unless they are hiring midgets. Spud gets in Robbie’s face but Robbie T. steps in between them. Robbie then speaks over Robbie T’s back until he “drops” the clipboard and kneels down. Spud then cracks Robbie E. as he rolls out to the floor. Spud then shows Robbie T. to make the rock star horns and Robbie T. begins to dance around as Robbie E. goes nuts on the floor.

Sting and Bully Ray are walking backstage as Ray says he isn’t going to let him down tonight. Sting tells Ray to get his game face on and Ray says he may even put on the warpaint. Sting says it’s showtime as the announce team hype the tables match, which comes up after the break.

Footage of Jeff Hardy getting taken out by Aces & Eights two weeks ago is aired. Mike Tenay tells us that Hardy’s MRI showed no significant damage and he will return to Impact Wrestling.

Match 5: Aces & Eights (Devon & DOC) vs. Bully Ray & Sting (Tables Match)
Bully Ray comes out with his own version of Sting’s facepaint. The two then get into the ring and go right on the attack as the beat down Devon and DOC. The crowd starts a “We want tables!” chant as Sting and Ray continue on the attack and Ray hits Devon with his own version of the Stinger Splash. Sting follows and hits Devon with the original Stinger Splash. Both Devon and DOC are stacked in the corner and Sting whips Ray into them for a double-man Stinger Splash. Sting follows with a double clothesline and Aces & Eights are cleared from the ring as we head into a commercial break.

We return to the match to see DOC being taken down by a big boot from Ray. Ray misses with a followup elbow drop and DOC takes him down with a big boot of his own. DOC begins to then choke Ray with his belt as Sting takes Devon down with a couple of clotheslines and a scoop slam. Sting then holds Devon down as Ray hits a headbutt between the legs from the middle rope. Ray then pushes Sting before yelling out to get the tables. Ray goes out and slides a table into the ring and the two set it up as Devon and DOC run in and attack them from behind.

The two then hit a double suplex on Sting onto the table but Ray is able to move the table out of the way. Ray is then dumped out to the floor by DOC before he sets up the table once again. Devon puts Sting onto the table as Ray pulls Devon out to the floor. DOC heads to the top rope but Sting cuts him off as Sting hits a superplex but Knox runs out and moves the table out of the way. Knox holds Sting but Devon accidentally hits him as Sting takes down Devon before laying DOC out with a Scorpion Death Drop. Ray then comes into the ring and takes a few punches from Devon before he begins to Hulk up. Ray then fires back a few rights before hitting a big boot. Ray then puts chokeslams Devon through the table to pick up the win for his team.

Hulk Hogan and Brooke come out and clap as Sting and Ray stand tall in the ring. Hogan holds both of their arms in the air in victory before pleasing the crowd with his usual Hogan mannerisms. Taz has left the broadcast table in disgust as replays of Devon going through the table is aired. The four continue to celebrate in the ring as Impact Wrestling comes to a close.

Quick Results
– Rob Van Dam defeated Zema Ion and Kenny King by pin fall to retain the X Division Championship.
– James Storm defeated Jessie by pin fall.
– Bobby Roode & Austin Aries defeated Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez by pin fall to win the TNA Tag Team Championship.
– Miss Tessmacher defeated Tara by pin fall.
– Bully Ray & Sting defeated Aces & Eights (Devon & DOC) in a tables match.
