2/1/13 Friday Night Smackdown Coverage

Smackdown opens up with a video package. We see that we will revisit Brock Lesnar’s return and attack on Vince McMahon from this past Monday’s Raw. We also see a recap of Alberto Del Rio retaining the World Heavyweight Championship against The Big Show at the Royal Rumble, and The Big Show’s retaliation on Raw. The Road to WrestleMania rolls on tonight.

We go into the parking lot of the arena in San Diego, California, and we see Alberto Del Rio pacing back and forth waiting on The Big Show to arrive.

We go into the arena and we see Booker T and Theodore in the ring surrounded by Superstars, such as Sheamus, The Great Khali, Daniel Bryan, Randy Orton, and Kane. Booker reminds us that John Cena has chosen to go after the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, and says that he is going to give these five men the opportunity to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. He says they have to go through the Elimination Chamber and Jack Swagger’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring. Swagger says Booker forgot about him and says he doesn’t like the way the WWE has been going. Swagger tells Booker to put him in the Elimination Chamber and he will do the rest. We see Dolph Ziggler, AJ Lee, and Big E Langston. Ziggler says he is already guaranteed a shot and can cash in his shot anytime he wants, including WrestleMania. Ziggler goes to leave, but Booker stops him. Booker informs him that he is going one-on-one with Alberto Del Rio later tonight. Booker says the six men in the ring will be in a match tonight. He says they have to impress him and Teddy and then they will decide if they get into the Elimination Chamber. Booker announces that our first contest will be Team Hell No vs. Sin Cara and Rey Mysterio.

Match #1: Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara vs. Team Hell No
Mysterio and Kane start the match. Kane charges at Mysterio in the corner, but Mysterio gets his boots up and then drops Kane with a neck-breaker. Mysterio sends Kane to the outside and takes him down to the floor. Kane gets back into the ring, but Mysterio takes out his knee. Mysterio tags in Sin Cara, but Kane gains control and tosses him into the corner. Kane tags in Bryan, but Sin Cara takes him down with a springboard elbow and an arm drag. Sin Cara takes Bryan down with another arm drag and tags in Mysterio. Mysterio takes Bryan down and gets a two count. Bryan slams Mysterio down to the mat and tags in Kane. Kane drops down onto Mysterio and clotheslines him in the corner. Kane levels Mysterio with a right hand and then tosses Bryan into him in the corner. Bryan goes for the cover, but only gets a two count. Mysterio kicks Bryan and head-scissors him into the ropes. Mysterio goes for the 6-1-9, but Bryan ducks out to the floor as we head to a commercial break.
We’re back and Bryan and Sin Cara are in the ring. Sin Cara sends Bryan to the corner and charges, but Bryan gets his boots up. Sin Cara comes right back and connects with a clothesline, but Bryan recovers and connects with a missile dropkick. Bryan applies the surfboard submission on Sin Cara. Bryan tags in Kane, who keeps the control on Sin Cara. Kane drops him with a Sidewalk Slam, but only gets a two count. Kane sets Sin Cara up in the corner and climbs up after him, but Sin Cara fights out and attempts a cross-body. Kane catches him, but Sin Cara reverses and plants Kane with a DDT. Sin Cara and Kane both make the tags, and Mysterio takes Bryan down with a hurricanrana and a seated senton. Mysterio kicks Bryan in the head, but only gets a two count. Mysterio trips Bryan into the corner and goes for the 6-1-9, but Kane catches him and goes for the chokeslam. Mysterio counters and sends Kane to the outside. Bryan locks Mysterio in the No Lock, but Sin Cara kicks Bryan in the head to break the hold. Sin Cara takes Kane down on the outside and Mysterio drops Bryan into the ropes and connects with the 6-1-9. Mysterio hits the splash from the top rope for the pin fall.
Winners: Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara.
After the match, Kane and Daniel Bryan argue on the outside.

We take a look back at some of the highlights of the Last Man Standing Match between Alberto Del Rio and The Big Show at the Royal Rumble, as well as The Big Show’s attack on Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez on Raw.

We see Del Rio still waiting in the parking lot, and Matt Striker asks him if he is waiting on The Big Show. Del Rio says he is just getting some fresh air and we are reminded that Del Rio will take on Dolph Ziggler later tonight.

Match #2: Jinder Mahal (w/Drew McIntyre and Heath Slater) vs. The Great Khali (w/Hornswoggle and Natalya)
Khali starts the match off in dominating fashion before McIntyre gets involved. Mahal beats down Khali, but Khali comes back with a big chop across Mahal’s chest. Khali drops Mahal with another chop and knocks McIntyre down to the floor. Slater gets on the apron, but Hornswoggle stops him. Khali drops Mahal with the Punjabi Plunge for the pin fall.
Winner: The Great Khali.
After the match, Khali, Natalya, and Hornswoggle dance in the ring.

Booker T and Teddy Long are talking backstage. Booker says Khali impressed him and says he was blindsided by the return of Jack Swagger. Teddy Long says he brought back Swagger. Team Rhodes Scholars walks in and Cody Rhodes says they have made the decision to pursue singles competition and dissolve their tag team. Booker says that’s a good idea and puts Damien Sandow in a match against Sheamus.

We see that we will revisit Brock Lesnar’s return and attack on Vince McMahon from this past Monday’s Raw after the commercial break.

We’re back and we see Brock Lesnar’s return and attack on Vince McMahon. We then see post-Raw footage from WWE.com showing Vince being stretched to an ambulance. We then see that MizTV will return to Raw this coming Monday, and The Miz’s guest will be Paul Heyman. We see that Damien Sandow and Sheamus will go one-on-one next.

We take a look back at how John Cena won the Royal Rumble Match this past Sunday night and then see his announcement that he will be challenging the WWE Champion and The Shield’s attack on him from Raw.

Match #3: Damien Sandow vs. Sheamus
Sandow kicks Sheamus back into the corner, but Sheamus comes back and delivers a few clubbing shots. Sandow escapes to the outside, but Sheamus goes out after him and takes him down to the floor. Sheamus tosses Sandow back into the ring, but Sandow takes advantage and beats him down. Sandow drives his shoulder into Sheamus’ midsection in the corner. Sandow takes Sheamus down and works over his shoulder and then drops the Cubito Aequet. Sandow backs Sheamus into the corner and stomps him down in the corner and chokes him with his boot. Sheamus comes back and Spears Sandow in the corner. Sheamus takes Sandow down with a clothesline and then goes for White Noise, but Sandow gets to the ropes. Sheamus catches him on the apron and gets five of his ten clubbing blows in before The Shield’s music hits and they descend from the crowd. The Shield surrounds the ring and then get into it. Sheamus connects with the Brogue Kick on Rollins. They attack Sheamus and the number’s game eventually overpower Sheamus. Roman Reigns headbutts Sheamus and he and Ambrose connect with the powerbomb and help Rollins to his feet.
Match Result: No Contest.

Match #4: Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett
Orton backs Barrett into the corner and then takes him down with a clothesline and a dropkick. Barrett goes to the floor, but gets back into the ring looking frustrated. Barrett drives his knee into Orton’s midsection and pummels him into the corner. Orton fights back and sends Barrett off the ropes, but Barrett comes back and takes Orton down with a boot to the face. Barrett beats down Orton on the mat and then drops him with a neck-breaker for a two count. Barrett chokes Orton over the middle rope and then kicks him in the head. Barrett goes for a cover, but Orton kicks out at two. Barrett applies a sleeper hold in the middle of the ring, but Orton fights out and takes Barrett down with a couple of clotheslines and then a big power slam. Orton gets Barrett in the middle rope, but Barrett slips out and goes to the outside. Barrett pushes Orton into the ring post and sets up for the Bull Hammer Elbow, but Orton moves and Barrett’s elbow hits the post. Orton drops Barrett with the middle rope DDT and sets up for the RKO. Orton drops Barrett with the RKO for the pin fall.
Winner: Randy Orton.

Matt Striker attempts to interview Wade Barrett backstage, but he spots Bo Dallas and attacks him. Barrett beats Dallas down for a bit before walking away.

Match #5: Jack Swagger vs. Kofi Kingston
Swagger takes Kingston down and then lifts him and slams him again. Swagger chokes Kingston in the corner, but Kingston fights out, but Swagger takes him down with a hard shoulder block. Kingston comes back and takes Swagger down with a back elbow, but Swagger goes on the offensive and slams Kingston down again. Swagger stands on Kingston’s chest and connects with a splash from the second rope for a one count. Swagger punches Kingston in the back a few times and then levels him with a right hand. Swagger tosses Kingston down to the mat and then chokes him over the bottom rope. Kingston and Swagger exchange right hands and Kingston connects with a cross body for a two count. Swagger comes back with a huge clothesline and then applies a submission in the middle of the ring. Kingston fights out, but Swagger takes him down and applies another arm bar. Kingston fights out, but Swagger back him into the corner again. Swagger tries to slam Kingston down to the mat again, but Kingston reverses and drops Swagger. Kingston takes Swagger down with a couple of clotheslines and a heel kick. Kingston hits the Boom Drop and sets up for Trouble in Paradise. Swagger catches him, but Kingston kicks him in the head and comes off the top rope. Kingston sends Swagger to the outside. Kingston baseball slides, but Swagger moves and tosses Kingston towards the steps, but Kingston leap frogs them and comes back to clothesline Swagger. Kingston goes for Trouble in Paradise on the outside, but Swagger ducks and Kingston hits the announce table. Swagger tosses Kingston back into the ring and kicks Kingston in the face. Swagger applies the Ankle Lock and Kingston taps out.
Winner: Jack Swagger.

We see Del Rio in the parking lot again and security is telling him to calm down. He yells at them and they back off and we see a tour bus pulling up. The Big Show exits the tour bus and Del Rio tries to attack him, but Show dodges all of Del Rio’s attacks. Show gets on top of a car and Del Rio trips him and Show falls on the hood. Del Rio gets on top of the car and beats down Show. Show shoves him off and they circle the car. Show hops into another car and drives away as Del Rio yells at him.

We take a look back at the confrontation between The Rock and CM Punk from this past Monday’s Raw, which led to the rematch being made official for the Elimination Chamber PPV on February 17th.

Match #6: Alberto Del Rio vs. Dolph Ziggler (w/AJ Lee and Big E Langston)
Del Rio takes Ziggler down, but Ziggler comes back and backs Del Rio into the corner. Del Rio reverses and kicks Ziggler in the leg and slams him down on the mat. Del Rio flips off the ropes, but Ziggler moves. Del Rio kicks Ziggler in the head an goes for the cover, but Ziggler kicks out at two. Del Rio charges Ziggler, but he moves and Del Rio goes shoulder-first into the ring post. Ziggler drops Del Rio with a DDT for a two count. Ziggler drops Del Rio with a neck-breaker and gets a two count. Del Rio keeps control and kicks Ziggler again. Del Rio goes up top and AJ gets on the ring apron and Langston shoves Del Rio down to the mat. Ziggler pins Del Rio, but he kicks out at two. Del Rio dropkicks Langston, but Langston doesn’t fall, and Del Rio is in control. Langston tries to get into the ring, but the referee stops him and ejects Langston as we go to a commercial.
We’re back and Del Rio and Ziggler are exchanging kicks. Ziggler takes out Del Rio’s knee and then connects with a dropkick for a two count. Ziggler goes up top, but Del Rio knocks him down and then kicks him in the shoulder. Del Rio gets on the ropes with Ziggler and connects with a suplex. Both men get to their feet and exchange right hands. Ziggler takes Del Rio to the corner and charges, but Del Rio moves and drops Ziggler with a few clotheslines and a back-breaker. Del Rio kicks Ziggler in the face and goes for a cover, but Ziggler kicks out at two. Del Rio goes for the cross arm-breaker, but Ziggler reverses with a face-buster for a two count. Del Rio sends Ziggler to the corner and charges, but Ziggler moves. Del Rio sets Ziggler in the ropes and punches him in the back a few times. Del Rio slams Ziggler down to the mat for a two count. Del Rio stomps away on Ziggler and goes up top. Del Rio jumps off the top rope, but Ziggler reverses with a dropkick for a two count. Ziggler gets to his feet first, and he goes for the Zigzag, but Del Rio reverses and locks in the cross arm-breaker and Ziggler taps out.
Winner: Alberto Del Rio.
After the match, we see The Big Show backstage. He had Ricardo Rodriguez by the neck. Del Rio goes to run to the back, but Show tells him to stay in the ring. Show says if Del Rio ever attacks him like that again, he will make him sorry he ever woke up that day. Show says he will hurt Del Rio, Rodriguez, and anyone who gets in his way. Show mocks Rodriguez for begging him not to hurt him. Show tells Ricardo he will let him go, but then knocks him out with the KO Punch. Del Rio runs backstage and a referee is checking on Ricardo. Del Rio runs backstage and tells the referee to get the doctor. Smackdown comes to a close with Del Rio trying to revive Ricardo.
