Jan 10, 2013 - by Jason Graening

Join the Starman as he covers tonight’s Impact Wrestling episode as it airs live from the Impact Zone in Orlando, FL.

A “Previously on Impact Wrestling” recap focuses on Jeff Hardy winning 2012 Wrestler of the Year, which led to a triple threat match against Austin Aries and Bobby Roode. Hulk Hogan also suspended Bully Ray due to his relationship with Brooke Hogan, while Aces & Eights made a proposition to Mr. Anderson and Mike Knox was unmasked when Sting returned to the Impact Zone.

We head to the live crowd as the pyro goes off and we are welcomed to tonight’s show. Sting’s music hits as he makes his way down to the ring with Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe. Sting says he came back last week just like he said and at Genesis he will be looking for DOC. Tonight, though, he brought his close friends, his big black bat, Shooter (Angle), and Killer (Joe), and invites Aces & Eights to come get some.

Joe grabs the microphone and says he was outmanned in the cage but he wasn’t outdone. Joe says he will beat them down and choke them out when they step in his face. Angle takes over the microphone and says he made a promise to take all the masks off in 2013 and expose them for the cowards that they are. Angle promises to do that but tonight he wants to expose Mr. Anderson as he did nothing to help them stop Aces & Eights. Angle calls out Anderson so he can explain what side he is on.

Mr. Anderson’s music hits as he walks to the ringside area and asks where they were when he was getting beat down by Aces & Eights. Anderson says he was on his way to stand shoulder to shoulder with Sting but Sting left him for Bully Ray. Angle steps in and says he’s either with them or they are going to fight, which makes Anderson get in the ring. Anderson and Angle stare each other down for a moment before Anderson says he doesn’t have to answer to him and that he never really liked Angle. Angle says the feeling is mutual and takes him down with a few blows before Anderson rolls out of the ring and walks back up the ramp.

The announce team run down what just went down and hype tonight’s tag team match of Austin Aries & Bobby Roode against Jeff Hardy & James Storm. Gut Check also returns and there will be two contestants that will take each other n. A video for Jay Bradley is aired who talks about watching some of the guys he broke in with getting their shots but he was never given an opportunity. He says he will defeat his opponent tonight.

Brooke Hogan shows up at the Impact Zone and says she is going to talk to her father and air their dirty laundry in front of everyone. She then gets a phone call from Bully Ray and tells him that she is there as she walks off and we head into a commercial break.

Match 1: Zema Ion vs. Kenny King (X Division Tournament)
The match starts and King sends Ion out to the floor with a kick to the head. King dives over the top rope but Ion slides into the ring and takes King out with a dive of his own. Back in the ring, King regains control of the match and picks up a couple of near falls as the announce team discuss TNA’s new PPV schedule and that Kurt Angle will take on Mr. Anderson later on tonight. Meanwhile, Ion takes control of the match by hanging up King on the ropes and picks up a near fall with a rollup. Ion then heads to the top rope but misses with a 450 splash. King then hits the Royal Flush to pick up the pin fall. King will go on to Genesis to take on Christian York to earn a shot at RVD later on the show.

Robbie E. and Robbie T. are backstage and Robbie E. talks about the bad week he has had. Robbie E. talks about being challenged by Jesse and Tara to a mixed tag match and wants Miss Tessmacher to be his partner. Tessmacher says she would never tag with him but will tag with Robbie T.

Joseph Park is in the parking lot and says he is excited for tonight as when he talks to Hulk Hogan, he will do so as a wrestler, not a lawyer. Park then tries to open the door but it’s locked.

Match 2: Jesse & Tara vs. Robbie T. & Miss Tessmacher
The bell rings as Jesse goes right on the attack but Robbie quickly takes him down with a slam to the mat. Jesse then tags in Tara as Tessmacher comes in and takes her down with a series of strikes. Jesse is tagged back in as Robbie comes in and takes him down with a hard powerbomb to pick up the pin fall. After the match, Robbie E. comes in to enjoy the celebration as Robbie T. and Tessmacher dance together until Robbie T. lays a kiss on her lips as Tessmacher faints.

A video package for Brian Cage is aired and talks about having a chance before but he threw it away. Cage says there is nothing else for him but wrestling and he wants to prove it tonight to himself, his family, and the world. Cage says he will earn a contract as there is no other way for him. We then see the two Gut Check challengers warming up backstage as their match is up after the commercial break.

Jeremy Borash is in the ring with the two Gut Check competitors and says these two will go at it for a chance to win a single contract. Borash then introduces both of them before the match gets underway.

Match 3: Jay Bradley vs. Brian Cage (TNA Gut Check)
The two lock up and counter each other in the opening moments. The two trade quick pin attempts before trading blows in the middle of the ring. Bradley finally takes Cage down with a big boot and follows with a power slam. Bradley then sets up for a lariat but Cage counters with a dropkick. Cage then hits a suplex before heading to the top rope to hit a nice looking elbow drop for a near fall. Bradley, however, is able to counter and levels Cage with a huge lariat to pick up the pin fall.

We head into the Aces & Eights clubhouse where Mr. Anderson asks if they saw what happened in the ring earlier and says something has to be done with it. The masked leader says tonight’s not about personal beefs and tells everyone to take it to the table. The leader says the first order of business is to deal with Mike Knox losing his mask. He tells Knox he will get his chance to keep his spot tonight as DOC did when he lost his match.

Park then begs Hogan to handle business with Aces & Eights as an irritated and reluctant Hogan agrees to let Park have a match.

Park happily leaves the ring as Brooke Hogan appears on the big screen and says she tried to contact him personally but he wouldn’t take her calls. Brooke tells him to stay in the ring and she will come to him to handle things as we head into a commercial break.

We return to see Brooke make her way to the ring. Brooke says she can’t believe how Hogan has been acting with her as of late. Brooke then asks if Hogan is going to reinstate Mark or keep with his personal vendetta. Hogan says he is not going to reinstate Bully Ray as he drops his microphone and leaves the ring.

Bobby Roode and Austin Aries are backstage talking about their new shirts available on tnashop.com. Aries and Roode disagree about what they are going to wear to the ring but agree on being a wet dream team and take care of their common problem. The two then continue about what they are going to wear to the ring.

A Genesis video package then airs as Aries is seen talking about wanting to win the TNA World Championship since it has all been downhill for him since he lost it. Jeff Hardy thinks Aries is desperate to win the title back and it is driving him crazy. Aries goes on to say when he wins the championship once again he isn’t going to be doing it for TNA, but for himself. This brings us into our next match of the night.

Match 4: Bobby Roode & Austin Aries vs. James Storm & Jeff Hardy
The match starts as Roode starts out against Hardy and takes him down with a shoulder block. Hardy comes back and takes Roode down with a shoulder block of his own before Roode tags Aries into the match after a small argument. Aries comes in and takes Hardy down but Hardy comes back with a head scissors. Roode comes in as Hardy takes both Aries and Roode down with atomic drops as Storm is tagged in. Both Storm and Hardy take Aries and Roode down before the two head out to the floor to continue their argument as we head into a commercial break.

We return to the match to see Hardy in control over Roode, however, a distraction by Aries allows Roode to knock Hardy off the top rope and onto the mat. Aries then tags himself in and begins to work over Hardy’s legs before Aries and Roode begin to work together to wear Hardy down. Roode and Aries pick up a few near falls over Hardy as they try to top each other with the moves. It ends up costing them, though, as Hardy is able to finally counter Roode’s move and makes a hot tag to Storm. Storm comes in and explodes on Roode and Aries with a flurry of offense.

Storm picks up a near fall over Roode but it is broken up by Aries. Storm then hits Aries with the Closing Time and begins to set up for the Last Call but Bad Influence run down to the ring to distract Storm and pull him out to the floor. Storm is tossed into the steel steps as Hardy gets up and sets up Roode for the Twist of Fate, however, Aries runs into the ring and nails Hardy with a World Championship to the back of the head. The referee calls for the bell as Aries and Roode begin to pose and fight over both of the World Championship belts.

Brooke Hogan is backstage and is talking to Bully Ray on the phone. She tells him not to come to the Impact Zone but he is insistent and she tells him to pick her up outside her office. The announce team then hypes the match between Kurt Angle and Mr. Anderson as we head into a commercial break.

Joey Ryan and Matt Morgan are backstage and are talking about how they are going to win the Tag Team Championship at Genesis as Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez run in and attack them from behind. Chavo finally has to pull Hernandez away and tells him to save it for Sunday. The announce team then run down the Genesis card before we head into another Genesis video package. Mike Tenay talks about the unpredictability of a three way match and applauds Jeff Hardy for taking both on. Hardy talks about believing himself and how he is willing to hurt himself to retain the championship.

Mr. Anderson and Kurt Angle come out for their match but Angle chases Anderson out of the ring before the match starts. Angle then grabs a microphone and asks Anderson when he turned into a bitch and tells him to get into the ring before he comes out after him. Anderson continues to stall as Mike Knox runs into the ring and takes Angle down with a hammer to the neck. Samoa Joe, Wes Brisco and Garett Bischoff run out to the ring to run Knox off as trainers and paramedics come out to check on Angle. Angle is put on a stretcher and wheeled away as Aces & Eights look on with smiles on their faces.

Sting’s music hits as he comes out and shares a few words with Bischoff and Brisco as they walk away. Sting gets in the ring and says he’ll call off his troops if Aces & Eights calls of their troops if he can get his hands on Knox. Aces & Eights are seen discussing it as we head into a commercial break.

Match 5: Sting vs. Mike Knox
Knox enters the ring as Sting nails him in the midsection. Referee Earl Hebner then grabs the hammer and bat and rings the bell to get this match officially started. Knox uses his power advantage to take Sting down in the early going as Sting rolls out to the floor to regroup. Knox follows him out where Sting fights back and sends him into the steel steps a few times before sending him into the railing. Sting hits a Stinger Splash on Knox against the railing before rolling him back into the ring. Sting then tries for a Scorpion Death Lock but Knox blocks it but ends up getting a Scorpion Death Drop instead as Sting picks up the pin fall.

After the match, Sting grabs the hammer and crushes Knox’s hand but stops when he sees Brooke being held captive by Aces & Eights. Devon tells Sting to stop what he is doing or else Brooke will look a lot different the next time he sees her. Devon continues to say that 2013 will be their year but Bully Ray runs out and hits a few members before rescuing Brooke from their clutches. Ray and Sting chase away Aces & Eights as Hulk Hogan is seen walking up the ramp and looks on as we head into a commercial break.

We return to see Hulk Hogan, Sting, Brooke Hogan and Bully Ray in the ring. Hogan says he should thank Ray for putting his daughter at risk and tells Ray that he is not the man for his daughter. Ray fires back and says wrestling is his life and how the business means everything to him. Ray says he didn’t think he’d love anything more than pro wrestling, but then his daughter came into his life, who came into life apologizing for Hulk Hogan’s actions.

Hogan drops his microphone and stares Ray down as Brooke puts between them and Ray tells her how she makes him feel as he then gets down on one knee and proposes to her. Hogan stares down at Ray with fire in his eyes as Brooke says yes. The two embrace and kiss in the ring as Ray says he wants to get married next week in front of everyone as Hogan leaves the ring.
