Note on Bret Hart’s Stampede Wrestling footage

Bret Hart has revealed in a new interview that before his dad Stu died years ago that he was given the rights to all his taped matches in Stampede Wrestling. “WWE can’t use any footage of me from those days without my permission. But at the same time that kind of footage is useless to me,” Bret told Mike Johnson of PWInsider. “I hope someday that they’ll make me an offer and I’ll sell that to them. I don’t have a problem with that but I’m certainly not going to give it to anyone for free.”

    Smart man.

  2. Kerry says:

Go ahead, Bret. Vince’s family owns the rest of professional wrestling history, so why not sell out to him too?

Revealed? It’s been known for years.

  4. The Sheild says:

Was he talking to a spiritual medium again when he said this.

Bret already mentioned this about ten years ago when WWE released their first Bret Hart DVD with footage of Bret in Stampede. WWE called it a “joint production” since Bret owned some of the footage used. None of Bret’s Stampede matches were included as extras, but footage of him was used in the documentary. This is hardly news.

Bret’s hardly being a sellout here. His whole reason for making peace with the WWF was that he didn’t want his legacy buried and kids not knowing who he was and what he ever did. Selling his Stampede footage to the only company that’s airing classic wrestling for people to see is great for everyone – Bret makes money that should be made; WWE gets great programming to sell to customers; and fans get to watch classic wrestling from the past.
