Wrestling By The Numbers: Shelton Benjamin

Ring Of Honor Wrestling has parted ways with performer Shelton Benjamin after he requested his release from the organization. The 37-year-old Orangeburg South Carolina native had spent the past 15-months with the company where he was a former 2-Time ROH Tag-Team Champion with partner Charlie Haas. The duo known as ‘The World’s Greatest Tag-Team’ debuted with ROH in September of 2011 and had been a main event draw for the organization over the past year. Prior to entering the squared circle Shelton Benjamin was a 2-time All-American Heavyweight wrestler and multi-sport athlete while attending the University Of Minnesota. He was signed by World Wrestling Entertainment in the year 2000 and was assigned to Ohio Valley Wrestling for training.

While competing in the WWE’s developmental territory he formed tag-teams with both Brock Lesnar and Redd Dogg Begnaud and was a former 4-Time OVW Southern Tag-Team Champion including reigns with both tag-team partners. Benjamin spent 8-years on the WWE’s main roster first forming a successful tag-team with Charlie Haas managed by Kurt Angle known as both Team Angle and later The World’s Greatest Tag-Team. He later went on to become a mid-card singles competitor winning both the WWE Intercontinental and WWE United States Championships. He was released by the WWE in April of 2010. Shelton Benjamin has also competed for numerous international organizations including New Japan Pro Wrestling and World Wrestling Council. It has been rumored that he is WWE bound but has denied this to be the case.
