The latest on WWE European DVD/Blu-ray distribution

Home entertainment trade magazine The Raygun has revealed new details on the brand new deal between WWE and FremantleMedia Enterprises to distribute WWE’s DVD and Blu-ray releases in the UK, Europe and the Middle East, taking over from Clear Vision’s Silver Vision label, who had been working with WWE on the home entertainment license for two decades.
The deal comes into effect as of January 2013, with the first releases slated to be Night of Champions 2012, Hell in a Cell 2012, Top 100 RAW Moments and The Attitude Era. Word is that FremantleMedia were able to secure the contract with the potential of its digital division, which is something that WWE had reportedly been keen for Silver Vision to pursue for quite some time. Going into the new year, it appears as though streaming and digital downloads will be available for WWE titles for the first time ever in the European and Middle East markets.
Meanwhile, while the Silver Vision label will disappear following a six-month period from January for which to sell the remaining WWE stock, it will be business as usual for Clear Vision and their distribution deals with Marvel, GAIAM, NBA and UFC (sold through their Fight DVD label).
It truly is the end of an era with the conclusion of the WWE/Silver Vision deal, but we can look forward to what the future holds with FremantleMedia. Ironically, Clear Vision isn’t quite ready to let go of professional wrestling just yet, as it has recently made a 10th Anniversary Collector’s Edition of the non-WWE produced Bret Hart Wrestling with Shadows documentary available for pre-order.
