Report: WWE considering to run a PPV outside of North America

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that there is a meeting set for Friday with WWE officials and officials at Millennium Stadium (74,500 capacity) in Cardiff, Wales, over the idea of a mega-show, perhaps a Pay-Per-View event.

    Cardiff? Incoming Mason Ryan push.

I’ve been there and its a great stadium. Retractable roof and perfect to host a PPV. The time difference always makes you wonder if they’re sacrificing US buys for UK buys bt a well promoted PPV in the UK will generate a lot of money over here.

Unless they air the PPV live at 3pm ET in the US during a quiet sporting month, so perhaps May? June? The ‘soccer’ season ends in May here and I don’t think much is going on in the US. NHL? NBA? If that.
But as a fan in the UK this is exciting news if true.

I’m from Wales and that would be incredible. It’s renowned around the world for being one of the most atmospheric stadiums in the world. Can only assume that being 74.500 capacity it would be Wrestlemania there however

I was going to say the same things along the lines of what Dave said. I cant see why, if the WWE was going to go a PPV in England, that they could start it at 3 or 4 in the afternoon Eastern time (equating to 8 or 9 British time). Even for a Sunday during the spring (most likely due to when the WWE goes on tour of Europe) or summer.

  5. Scott says:

Or another thing that comes to mind, a WrestleMania out at Wembley, especially since it has a retractable roof ever since they renovated it years back, and still have the same 3 or so Eastern start time.

  6. Meh says:

SummerSlam 1992 took place on Saturday August 29th 1992 in the UK but was aired in the United States on Monday August 31st 1992.

Nowadays we have Raw live on Mondays and PPVs live on Sundays so a WWE PPV airing on a Monday nowadays would never happen.

Tuesday (would be the tapings for Smackdown, Superstars, Main Event and Saturday Morning Slam.) so WWE could show the PPV taping then at its earliest for North America but given that the Internet is around the results of the PPV would be available and may tempt North Americans not to buy the PPV and thus lower the buys for the PPV.

WWE would have to start the PPV on a Sunday at a reasonable time to both the UK and North America if the UK is to get a UK hosted PPV that both live in the UK and North America.

  7. Scott says:

Which is why I made mention of a 3 or 4 eastern start. Would translate to about 8 or 9 British time.

  8. Hdhfh says:

Summerslam could go there its not Wrestlemania but it is one of the bigger events.

  9. Kyle Christie says:

@Meh – Do you think 1am – 4am is a reasonable time? As that’s the time us UK folks have to put up with for PPV’s every month.

  10. theman says:

Most likely the site of a future WM.

  11. Meh says:

    @Kyle Christie
As someone living in the UK then I would have to say no it isn’t a reasonable time but the problem is those on Pacific Time that are living in North America as they are 8 hours behind the UK. If a PPV was live at a reasonable 9pm UK time then it would be also on for those on Pacific Time at 1pm who would most likely be eating lunch.

    1am UK time = 5pm PT
    9pm UK time = 1pm PT

But when the UK clocks go back an hour before the North American clocks then UK time’s = 9 hours ahead of PT. (The UK would need a 4 hour Raw that is hosted in the US after the UK clocks have gone back an hour just to get a live Raw episode on the Monday instead of the usual Tuesday very early morning.)

Also when North American clocks go forward an hour before the UK then the UK’s time = 7 hours ahead of PT. (which it is for 2 to 3 weeks of the year)

A 2 hour Raw would start at 2am (if UK clocks have got back before NA clocks then it would be 1am UK time but if NA clocks have gone forward before the UK clocks then it would be 3am UK time ) UK time.

A 3 hour Raw starts at 1am (if UK clocks have got back before NA clocks then it would be 12am UK time but if NA clocks have gone forward before the UK clocks then it would be 2am UK time ) UK time.

A 4 hour Raw would start at 12am (if UK clocks have got back before NA clocks then it would be 11pm UK time but if NA clocks have gone forward before the UK clocks then it would be 1am UK time ) UK time.

This would be amazing. Wembley would be great for a PPV, but it doesn’t have a roof and you know what the weather can be like over here. I don’t know if they are brave enough to have a Wrestlemania outside of North America, but a Summerslam or Royal Rumble could work.
